Why would I purchase 10 day passses with options?

We're going in Jan for 10 days. We used to do AP's because we had a camper and went twice a year. Anyway these magic your way passes are new to us. My question is...if we're staying for 10 days why would we buy 10 day passes with options?? Don't you use a whole day up when going to the waterpark? Aren't you tired after a day at Disney Quest? Should I just buy like six day passes and use the options on other days? Any advice apprciated!! :earsboy:

We are going for 10 days in just a couple of weeks, and we bought 10 day non-expire passes with options. This gives us 15 park entries for our trip this year and our trip next August (which is a week *after* this one and thus 2 weeks too late for an AP to be useful). All for the price of this year's 10 day pass - we won't need to pay next year's rates, and the extra days (beyond 5 or 6) are really inexpensive.

Considering we're doing Sea World and KSC this trip, and probably next trip as well, we probably won't use these up even in those 2 trips. We were AP holders for the last 2 years, but even with the DVC discount the 10 day makes the most sense for the next couple of years - much to my chagrin - I love having an AP so I can coax my husband into 'just one more trip to make the pass worthwhile'. ;)

Mur!

The MYW tkts adds the options in for the water parks and DQ. If you have a 10 day tkt I think you get 7 plus options but you can still go to the parks for 10 days if you want. I would buy the 10 with the no expiration so if you don't use all the tickets than you have the tkts for nexy time. YOu could buy without the pluses, I don't know about the water parks in January. May the Pixie Dust be with you !! ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

We like them, because for a few dollars more, we have options. We can spend a few hours in the parks, go home, take a rest, and buzz out to DQ. My boys really liked DQ, but we haven't ever gone to the water parks. Hope to this next trip.

Actually I was just looking at the Disney website and it looks like they have 8 and 9 day tickets now. If you are planning on doing a Premium Pass which is park hopper plus options.... 7 day Premium ticket is 268.00 and 10 day is 277.00 (those are adult prices) for an extra 7.00 per ticket you can get an extra 3 days. If you are planning to take a full day or two away from the park then maybe don't bother getting the 10 days. But if you think you may even want to got to the parks for a little bit on those "off" days then I'd probably go for more than the 7 days. I'm unfortunately only going for 5 nights, 6 days this time around but we are are getting 6 day premium tickets. Even if I don't end up using one of the days I really won't care bc I would only be loosing a few dollars. Personally I would prefer to pay a little extra and having the option to go everyday then getting in a situation where I want to go back to the park but I have no days left on my pass. If I really really wanted to go back to the park and had no days left I could buy a one day pass but then I would just be paying alot of extra money for something I could have gotten for only a few dollars more. anyway, now that my rambling is done.....I hope this helps :crazy2:

ps I did not buy the no expire on my tickets. its 10.00 per day per ticket to add it so if you think you will use up almost all of your days, its really not worth to pay the extra. If you end up only having 1 day left on a 7 day pass to save for future use than you'll have paid 70+ dollars for a one day hopper. the only reason i would suggest getting the no expire is if you are want it more for insurance purposes (ie., parks closing due to weather, or having to cut vacation short). But these are just my opinions. Everyone had different needs :flower:

If you can afford the 10 day with no exp. now,it's your best deal! You will have tickets and waterparks for your next trip.

The waterparks close at 5:00 so many people probably go back to the hotel, change, rest a bit and then head to a park for dinner and fireworks. I also know that one of few things, actually the only thing we have ever done at WDW that we did not enjoy was the waterpark. I think we caught it on an off day for us, it was cold and we just didn't have fun. We only ended up staying around 3 hours and then thankfully headed to MK. That is why I would never count on the pluses as being a full park day. We enjoyed Disney Quest but only ended up staying there a few hours, my daughter was too small to do some of the things and it was so uncrowded we sailed through. I know when I was looking online I realized that even though we have AP's now at some point as my kids get older and travelling gets more difficult the 10 day MYW ticket with no expiration might be a better bet. Better to buy it right off the bat then kick yourself for not having enough days.

Answer to this question "why" would you buy that many days when the plus options give you days to do other things... because you can use the tickets later if you have no expiration (ie: another trip) and each day added doesn't cost the same as the first. IOW- the more days you buy, the less you are paying "per day". It's not all that much more to buy 10 days than 6 days... for instance. And you get more plusses plus 4 more days added on.

This is only a benefit if you think you will EVER go back to WDW... if not, you're wasting money on days you won't use. But if you EVER go back.. and you have no expiration on there, you can use them at any time- they won't expire and depending on how long you wait before going again you can be talking some real savings there. Not only because you paid less per day because you got 10 days instead of 6 days or whatever- but also because prices are likely to be higher by then if you've waited years to go again.

We are going for 10 nights this fall. I purchased 10 days with plus, expiring. I plan on adding the non-expiring feature if we have a lot of days left while we are at WDW. For us, the cost would be another $400 so I will see what we have left before we head home.

We are going for 10 full days in September/October. We have purchased 7 day hoppers with the 5 options (is that called the plus?). Anyways, we plan on spending at least one day at each water park, 7 days at the main parks...I think we'll have more than enough "days" to do what we want. (add in some Disney Quest and we're booked full already). Since we don't know when we'll ever make it back (expensive trip from Canada), we didn't purchase the no expiry option.

OK, I've seen some crazy math above. But let me paint a picture that doesn't necessarily apply to the OP, but is something to keep in mind.

Even though the non-expiring option jumps up quite a bit for 8, 9 & 10 day tickets, it's still easily worth it for us to buy 10-day non-expiring tickets instead of 5-day expiring tickets for our upcoming trip. We *will* use the remaining days at some point and that's critical.

Referring to the table of advanced purchase prices below for basic adult park hopping tickets, you'll see that a 10-day non-expiring is $353.58 while a 5-day expiring ticket is $235.37. For an additional $118.21 above the cost of the 5-day expiring ticket, we get a 5-day non-expiring park hopper. That's about HALF the cost of a 5-day expiring ticket!

I like your break down, Brett. :teacher: Now, May I ask....Where are you purchasing the tix to get the best value? Disney store, Ticket Mania or online?

The ticket brokers make me nervous...Should they? :)

Our tickets are actually part of a AAA package - they were able to get me a standard room at WL with the free dining package while I was only able to get a more expensive room. But those prices are Advance Purchase prices from Disney. I've never used a ticket broker, but I haven't heard anything bad about the reputable ones. Two of our trips were 7-for-4 packages; so again, tickets were part of the package. For our most recent trip, the tickets were gifts from Nana and she got them at the Disney Store. (In all cases, these preceded the MYW tickets.) We still have all the "plusses" left on the tickets from my daughter's first trip in 2002.

Regardless, my major point was that considering the average price per day isn't as helpful as considering the "upgrade" cost for days beyond what you need. (The more days you're going to use on the first trip, the less sense it makes to get the full 10 days as non-expiring. For example, if you need 9 days, that extra day will cost you $109.69.) If you're  like me, you can see some of the tables I used to work this out here. The important one is the one just above the plot.

Brett,

Thanks for the information...... :)

We have AP's that will expire during the trip, and only plan on using two or three days of the ten day ticket this August. So this makes sense according to your philosophy?

I have had AP's for years now, but since we are doing a DL/ California trip next summer, it doesn't make sense to get the AP this time. We will visit WDW this Winter for a few nights, and think the ten day ticket is the best value. Would you agree? :sunny:

Ticketmania should not make you nervous.

I have purchased MANY tickets from Ticketmania. They are completely legitimate, and I have not seen better prices anywhere and have never had any trouble with their tickets.

Kath,

Thank you for your response! :) Where did you purchase the tickets? Online before you left or on your vacation?

You can decide later whether to get non-expiration, but don't forget before you head home. Preserving just one day of a 10 day pass is not worthwhile but if you have two days and two plusses remaining, non-expiration could be worth it.

Are you sure you want to go into a theme park in the evening for dinner after spending the daylight hours at a water park? If you have dinner at a resort instead, the theme park day is not consumed and can be saved for later.
