Why would FedEx shine a flashlight into our home?

DH was watching TV on the couch this evening. The TV and the Christmas tree being the only lights on in the house. (He watches TV in the dark.) He saw a flashlight come directly in the window of the front door and thought it was probably one of younger DS friends. (Nice kid but he does like to peep into homes - doors, windows.)

Anyhow, he got up to tell him that it was too late for DS to play. It was after 7PM and really really cold out. When he opened the door a gentleman was in the driveway. He yelled, "FedEx", hopped in a truck and drove away. He looked down and there was a package on the porch. The gentleman never knocked or rang our doorbell.

We're just scratching our heads here trying to figure out why he never knocked or rang the doorbell and why he shined a light into our house. Maybe it wasn't a real FedEx guy? DH said he couldn't make out any insignias on the truck.

Part of me is weirded out over someone peeping into our home - FedEX, neighbor kid, or potential thief.

Is your front yard lit well? maybe he just had the flashlight to see his way. And honestly around here fed ex doesn't even need a signature. Didn't ring the bell because he thought you were asleep.
I wouldn't sweat it.

This happened yesterday, but my story is a tad different.
It was around 5:00 p.m. and I had lites on. I noticed someone with a flash lite shining at my windows. I did hear a truck outside previous to this.


I thought I heard someone on the steps.
When I got up to look, a tag was on the Window .
I opened the door and a box was at the front door and I read the tag and it said, "you received a package from FED EX.

I was home and the guy didn't even knock, and all my lights were on.

I saw the same truck today and it was a rental truck with a big FED EX sticker on the side. FED EX must have so many deliveries, that they don't have enough trucks, that they have to rent.

When I see the guy that usually delivers FED EX items at work, I am going to ask him about the rental trucks, FED EX is using.

Maybe he was looking for a house number with the flashlight. Sometimes FedEx delivers in a rental van and sometimes they do not ring the bell or knock on the door. I wouldn't think anything of it at all.

Yesterday I rec'd a FedEx package from a woman in a Penske truck. Must have been the overload delivery, as my two neighbors rec'd their FedEx packages much earlier in the day from the regular truck.

NEVER get a knock or ring from FedEx where we live either. Very annoying (one time it was a frozen food package they left on the front porch and I was home waiting for it).

Ok, sounds like normal for FedEx then. I won't lose any sleep over it.

We rarely ever get a delivery from FedEX. It's mostly UPS and my dogs hear the truck before the guy has even hopped out. The UPS guy rings and knocks too. By then there's quite a chorus coming from behind the door.

We did get a package. It was a Christmas gift I ordered for my husband. Of course he opened it already.

Our Fedex guy is usually in a rental truck. It totally creeped me out the first couple of times.

My thing with Fedex is that they never ever ring the doorbell or knock. I'm home all day and they are like ninjas dropping off the packages. They also leave a post-it thing on the front door telling me they delivered a package...right above the package! Drives me crazy!

If you received a package I wouldn't sweat it.

The flashlight was probably so the delivery guy could see where he was going.

The majority of packages no longer require a person to sign for them so it sort of makes sense to me that FedEx no longer bothers knocking or waiting for someone to answer the door, especially during the holiday season. Huge time saver just to drop and leave.

Well, it certainly is a time-saver not to wait, but it would take, what, an additional 3 seconds to knock or ring a doorbell just to let you know that there is some reason to check the front door?

fedex scared us last night too! we live in the middle of nowhere, and we have a pretty long driveway. we're sitting in the living room watching TV at 9:45 pm (CT) when DH sees lights coming down the driveway and he says "there's someone out here". i said "should i go get a gun?" (i was joking, lol) and DH went outside to find a fedex van in the yard. they left us two boxes and a large bag. i felt so sorry for those poor people (it was a woman driving and a man in the back passing packages up to her), out so late at night delivering stuff. it was scary there for a few seconds at first though, because no one ever comes out here, especially so late at night.

Ours rings the doorbell, leaves the package and must run back to his truck because he is always gone by the time I get to the door!

I bet he was shining the flashlight to see better. I wouldn 't really want to walk up too many porches without any lights on.

Didn't you see that Criminal Minds episode, that I specifically warned people about, right before Thanksgiving? For heaven's sake, do not shake or tilt a box you or DH weren't expecting.


But, seriously, he was probably using the flashlight to read the address on the box, and then shone it on the house to see if your house number corresponds.

What's funny is that just after I hit "Submit Reply" I started thinking that there was probably a CM episode just like this.

Sign of the holidays I guess. We were driving our neighborhood looking at lights and saw a Budget rental truck. Then got home a d this truck followed me, did a uturn in our dead end and parked aimed at our house while I was unloading the kids.

Turned out to be UPS. I asked him about his lack of a brown truck and he said they ran out. I guess it is a good thing that they have all these extra drivers...but it would help if they didnt increase my anxiety level.

Maybe he was just using the flashlight for some light on the walk from the truck to your house, and he happened to swing it around so that it shined in the window. I would assume that not everyone has adequate lighting on the walkway/porch so they might carry a flashlight for safety, and it happened to shine in the window.

This is not something I would get worked up about.

And was the package an actual Fedex package? If so, then the 'it might not have been a real fedex guy' is just silly.
