Why Won't They Bring Back the "Electrical Parade"?

I visited Walt Disney World back in 1998 and was disappointed that the wonderful " Main Street Electrical Parade" was replaced by "Spectromagic". "Spectromagic" was OK, but it was no "Electrical Parade". Friends seem to agree with me. I refuse to visit WDW until the "Electrical Parade" returns. I believe it is at "California Adventure" in Anaheim; a good reason to visit California. Also, my other favorite "The Carousel of Progress" is only seasonally opened; meaning I might be going without seeing that attraction. They already destroyed "The World Of Motion", as well as "Horizons" to be replaced by thrill rides which I can't ride as I have vertigo. It seems they're trying to make only rides appealing to the youth. What about senior citizens who would get sick on "Space Mountain", "The Tower of Terror" and "Test Track"? I have nothing against these attractions, but with so much land, why can't they have both types of rides?

Myron, I think that they do have both types of rides. I don't like thrill rides either and I still find plenty to do. In fact, I think there are many more non-thrill attractions. I mean, I can name on two hands the "thrill" rides. Have you ever checked out the Electrical Water Pageant. It probably won't substitute the Main Street Electrical Parade but I bet you'd really like it.

I believe the Electrical Light Parade, or something very similar is now appearing in Disney's California Adventure. Maybe someday it will return for viewing in Disneyworld as well.

I've only ever seen the Electrical Parade at DL and we just love it. The music just makes me smile and remember when dd was 5 and just awed by the whole thing.

Actually, the Electric Parade was originally shipped out to Tokyo. But when California Adventure opened to dismal attendance figures, that's when they brought it back to the States - to try and draw the people into California Adventure.

If you really want it, write to Disney World, and let them know. Maybe if enough people voice their opinion, it WILL come back! :)

(And just for the record - I'm with the fans of the Electric Parade! I much prefer it to Spectro! :) )

Can't you just close your eyes, see the lights and hear the music?! My favorite parade of all times!

Pul-lease! The Electical Water parade is the lamest parade in WDW, tis but a flickering light in comparison to the brilliance of the original DL parade. I used to see the DL parade a lot as a child, but I can't really describe the difference in the parades as I don't remember the details, just the warm and fuzzy feelings I got from watching it (which I also got from Spectro). I'm hoping for a trip to California next year and I'm especially interested in seeing it again.

As to the origninal poster, I hope you aren't depriving yourself of Disney because of this one parade!!! Yikes! AND I totally agree that a lot ot the attractions suitable to seniors and small or frightened children are being yanked for more thrillng rides. I much prefer the original Disney model of having attractions that the whole family could enjoy... together. I"m especially disappointed that the Wonders of Life and Carousel of Progress are only seasonally openned. Oh well.

Our family misses the ELP as well. It was the first parde my kids ever saw at WDW so it is special to them. We all like Spectro, but we like ELP much better. Not really sure why we like it so much better. The music, the lights and everything!

They did bring back MSEP for the Millenium Celebration, I remember it when we took my niece in October 1999. I'm not sure when it ended and Spectro came back, probably in late 2000 or 2001.

The ELP at Califronia Adventure is great but it isn't the same as watching on Main Street :earseek:

Nothing beats the music of the Main Street Electrical Parade. No matter what mood I'm in, it always brings a smile to my face.

Ok, ok. I can see you feel very strongly about this. I am not trying to compare the MSEP and the EWP. In fact, I have never even seen the EWP (but plan to this trip). I said that the EWP won't substitute for MSEP but the OP might still enjoy it. That's all I'll say about that as not to get jumped on again.

When they replaced Spectromagic with the Main Street Electric Parade, I was extremely upset. It was so lame compared to Spectromagic. When the brought back SM, I was extremely happy. Good riddance.

I think Spectromagic runs circles over the Main Street Electrical Parade. Musically it is much better (I am not a big fan of that punchy, Wendy Carlos Bach-on-acid sound). And the floats are more awe inspiring. They also have a bigger assortment of characters.

However, one thing I like about the old MSEP, is their inclusion of Pete's Dragon. Disney has all but erased this underrated movie from its stores and theme parks. No rides, no costumed characters, the video is out of print, and you can't even find even a t-shirt of it anywhere in Disney World. But there;s that great big Elliott float which I love.

Oh, I'm thrilled to hear that the Electrical Light Parade is at the California Adventure! I'm going to start shopping for a plane ticket tomorrow! (I am serious about this.)

Now the music is playing in my head, with the opening announcement, "Ladies and Gentleman, Boys and Girls, Disneyland proudly presents our nighttime spectacle of illumination..." (at least, I think those are the opening words.)

I suspect that which parade you prefer depends on which one you experienced first.

As for the electrical water pageant, it's pretty, but it's very very low key.

DH and I were just talking about all the discontinued older attractions. I said Disney should use them to open a new park area -- Yesterdayland!

Another MSEP fan here. I agree that it probably depends on which parade you saw first. We love Spectro but Main St. Electrical is near and dear to my heart. We saw it on our first trip to WDW in late '99 with my mom. I may have to fly to California just to see it one more time. And I do enjoy Electric Water Parade. Not in the same catagory with the other parades but we do like it.

Yep--the Electrical Parade is at DCA, and we'll keep it, thank you very much. Spectro was good, but nothing beats the Baroque Hoedown. The opening words are now a bit different than they used to be. It's "Disney is proud to present..."
