Why, why, why, why, why

As A guy I think piercings on women look really great. I personally have 5 earings got my first one at 16. I currently have 5 tattoo's and plan on atleast 1 more. My wife has 1 tattoo and plans on about 2 more and only has her ears pierced but wee are looking at either her belly button or her tongue not sure yet.

This is a bit graphic, so a warning...

Maybe you should tell her the fun story about how I was wearing a dangling belly button ring (mind you the piercing was healed) and it got caught on my guy friends shirt when he threw me over his shoulders to play around. When he set me on the ground, my belly ring went with him

It ripped the hole some and bled a bit. I cleaned it every day, but it Never healed again, and the piercing started to migrate. Just two weeks ago had to take it out, the skin between my belly button and the jewelry was about the width of a nickel. If I didn't take it out it would've ripped through the skin. I didn't even notice it was happening.

So now I have this giant scar/hole above my belly button from where the piercing WAS originally pierced all the way down. I seriously look like I have two belly buttons, it's hideous.

For what I paid for the thing, the initial pain, and the end result...it definately wasn't worth it.

My friend's nipple piercing also migrated on it's own. Her body rejected it, apparently this is fairly common.

ouch....that just hurts reading about it....I guess that means I am old......sending hugs:grouphug:

LOL Laurie, I truly do not believe that anyone is too old for any piercing/tattoo so I say go for it :teeth: She may think you look silly or you may find you like it ;)

Evil Princess, sorry about your peircing... I think you just showed me again exactly why I won't ever be wearing a dangling ring from my navel. From what I have read though, migrations and rejections aren't that common unless there have been trauma, allergic reactions to certain metals or a poor job of peircing (not deep enough, too large of a gague). They are work if you want them to heal nice and stay nice.

So yeah you could say that I don't think anything like that is a big deal. Now I would never get what your daughter got though, Laurie... for many silly reasons too ;)

Marsha... go for it, you know you'll love it if you get it done :teeth:

Well can I chime in as a person with only one hole in each ear, and say that I saw an old guy the other day (I'm 40, so I'm guessing he was at least 55) with his ears pierced and his cartilage pierced and he just looked silly.
It is definately a matter of taste. I know guys who think girls with piercings look great--others who think it looks trashy. Same with girls about guys. I don't like them on guys at all. Again, my opinion, mileage may vary, etc.
I have also read about way to many complications to ever consider tongue piercing for anyone close to me. We also had a substitute teacher last year with one and she got flak from the administration about it because of the "implications" they associated with having a tongue piercing (i.e. they thought it was done for better oral *** and set a bad example)
I have a lot of students with belly buttons done and that seems to be the big thing right now.

LOL, she's had her belly piercing for a year now. I knew she wanted it and was going to get it as soon as she could. I knew no one would do it legally until she turned 18, and I wanted to have control over the environment. I wanted the place researched and I went with her to look the place over when she did it. She's never had a problem with that so far, thank goodness.

She was changing clothes yesterday for the photo shoot and she accidently flashed me. She was extremely embarrassed and that was strange. I didn't see anything, but she thought I did and she started talking about it later. I played along until I found out what she was talking about. Then she kicked herself.

My husband and I are the only ones in my family not tattooed or unusually pierced...

my 18yoDS has gauges (ear spreaders)
my 15yoDD has 4 in her ears plus the cartiledge
my sister and mom have 5 tattoos each
my BIL has too many to count
my BIL's niece & husband have the ears gauged,
rodded and pierced
my DGF has the nose ring
my DD's best friend has the belly piercing
she's 15, her mother approved & took her to get it done...

it is not fair for anyone to judge;
some do it for attention,
some do it for expression,
some do it to upset the "older generation"
...I personally choose other ways to spend my money!

Sometimes you can play the "age card,"
my DS wanted his eyebrow done and I refused to sign for it.
I told him, when he was 18 he could sign for himself.
(I know he tried to pierce it himself, but he decided it was too painful.)

So know I have to deal with ear holes an inch round...
and yes, I can see right through them.

So now I have this giant scar/hole above my belly button from where the piercing WAS originally pierced all the way down. I seriously look like I have two belly buttons, it's hideous.

Same thing happened with one of my DD's friends. :( She got a really nasty infection from the piercing, as a result, she is left with a huge and nasty looking puckered scar.

I took DD to have her belly button pierced when she was 17. She is now 18. She has 2 holes in each ear and shortly after her 18th birthday, she had the cartlidge done in one ear. She says she is done with piercing.

Laurie,
How did the photo issue work out? Did you see my post on your original thread about this subject? Did you check to see if your DD could rep the company and get free proofs and a discount on her finished pics??

Hey, if they're so great maybe I need one.

I keep teasing my DH that I hear it's such a great sensation - that maybe I should do it.....:earseek:

Maybe we could go on the buddy system or something.....;)

Oh Pam, I'll need to see the other thread. But the pictures were absolutely beautiful. We were out of town and they had some incredible background. Not just backdrops. They had some very nice inside shots, but the outside ones were so pretty.

They had a creek that they had her positioned in and out of. They had a farm house, a stucco doorway, and old truck, too many to remember. They had a ton more, but they chose the best ones for her clothes. If she had one of those beautiful romantic dresses, they had several settings for that too.

The wind wasn't being too cooperative, but when it did, it worked great.
She was freezing in the creek though. lol

I seriously will have a major problem picking out which pictures I can't take home with me.

LOL, no thank you, maybe next time. :hyper: I'm sensitive enough, any more and I'd be very embarrassed all the time.

Seriously, Laurie, this is me, too!:o I'm just all talk....:p

On the photo thread I told of my DD, who is also a senior, but who had her pics taken last year. She worked as a rep for the photo studio and they took tons of photos of her - (we had some in a creek, too - absolutely gorgeous) - and then they GAVE her ALL of the proofs for free, plus there was no sitting charge. They also gave her business cards with her name on them, which gave the redeemer so many free wallets of their own. She then took the proofs to school, friends homes, etc. and showed them, and gave out a business card.

We got 30% off of our photo order and for every card turned in, she received either $5.00 cash or $10.00 in photos. The studio was very pleased with the response - said it was one of the best ever - and their bookings/orders were way up!!

Well when I was 17 I got my belly button pierced!! That was 11 years ago!!:earseek: I'm getting old!!LOL. Not many people had that then so I was doing it to be different and I liked the way it looked. I didn't tell my parents and we were getting ready to go on vacation. I figured how can I hide it when I'll be in a bikini!! So I confessed. Actually I dropped 2 bombs! I said hey I forgot to tell you, I got my navel pierced and I smoke!
Well, I didn't know what they would be more mad about so I figured to just tell them both at the same time. Even though I was 17yo, I had graduated from HS and was working and paying my own way. They were actually more mad that I was smoking but felt they couldn't do anything about it.
A year later I had my tongue pierced and again hid it from them. My mom thought I was sick with a soar throat that was why I couldn't talk. The poor thing even went to buy me cough medicine and cough drops! I felt so guilty and confessed. She didn't talk to me for 2 weeks!!! My dad, who has his ear pierced just though I was nuts and couldn't understand how I could take that pain! He also smokes so didn't pass judgement on that.
At the age of 22 I had my daughter and took the piercings out.

I don't know what I will do when DD is at that age when maybe she'll want to do something like this. I'll probably take her! I really don't mind piercings. Tatoos are a whole other thing. Too permenant for me!

To the OP, just remember, it could be worse!;)
I'm actually surprised navel and tongue piercings are still "in". It feels like ages ago I had them done!

Call me ignorant, but I thought that WAS the basic reasoning...

Two of my really close friends have gotten it done... neither did it for that reason at all. They both liked the way it looks. My husband thinks it looks sexy on a woman to get done, and doesn't see how it would make anything better so that isn't his reasoning for liking it. No way would I ever do that one though!

From what a few friends have told me... on a few peircings, they can feel great at first... but sometimes after a while you run the risk of losing feeling there all together

Why didn't she take the money she used on her piercings and put it toward the senior pictures?? That would piss me off to no end if my DD did that.

Well, see, that's even worse. She agreed to be in the piercer's portfolio and he did it for free.

And....what about the pain factor? Do these kids have such a high pain tolerance? I could not imagine something going thru my tongue! It hurts when I bite it, let alone pierce it! I would like a little black Mickey head tattoo on my right shoulder, but I am not sure about the pain. There is a girl (19) that used to skate w/ DD. She had her nose pierced, belly, eyebrow, and now tongue. What is up with these kids today???

It really is just a form of expression. She doesn't do drugs or smoke, and I thank heavens for that. But my child sure knows how to give me gray hairs. Some times I wonder where on earth she came from.

She did say it hurt like crazy. I told her I was glad. She just laughed at me.

When I got my tattoo, the place also did piercings with curtains up for privacy in the booth next to mine a husband and wife were getting their(putting this as gently as I can)nether regions pierced the guy doing my tattoo bumped the curtain and the woman almost ended up with more than a ring would have covered, I heard her gasp and the woman doing it yelled at the tattooist.
