My DD goes to school in LA and told me that the Haunted Mansion at DL has a Nightmare Before Christmas theme for the month of Oct. They have done this for several years? she was told.
So what's the problem with doing this at WDW. They get tons more people down in FL. Does WDW not think they need to do this, they get folks in anyway?
Is it to big a deal/production to do? There was an article on a web that is decaded to Haunted Mansion, floor plans, et. And they showed how quickly DL did the tran. from reg Haunted Man, to Nightmare. It really looked great.
oh,well if wishes were tickets....
Hope someone knows why this coast is left out.(Yes, I know we have the whole world and tons more stuff at WDW, but more is better and I am being greedy....):wave2:

This is actually in the works. They were supposed to do it this year but I believe the budget ended up being allocated to the AE to Stitch rehab. Last I heard it is in the works for next year.

Just so you know, the one at DL actually goes all the way through the Christmas holiday. It's not just for October. And I don't think the transition is real quick. I'm pretty sure it means taking the HM down for like 3 weeks. This is the part that bums me out because I typically go in Sept (this year is an exception) so I could potentially not ride HM every year I take my week long trip if they do follow through with it and it becomes a regular thing.

Personally I wasn't a big fan of the movie, so I couldn't care less if they do the makeover or not.

And to answer your question about "why this coast is left out" it has nothing to do with that. There are many things in both parks that are different. Just because they do it in one park doesn't automatically mean it gets done in another. I'm sure the main thing to consider is budgetary concerns. It may be in one resorts budget but not another. Personally I'd rather see the money spent on new rides then a temporary makeover.

Part of the problem too is WDW holds the Happy Haunts Ball the last week of October. DL's Happy Holiday (to open the Mansion as Nightmare) is around October 1st. So if WDW does Nightmare they would have to move their event. The merchandise for HhB is Haunted mansion related. The DL event is Nightmare related.

They usually close the DL's HM for a couple of weeks so they can redo it. Rumor is that this is the last HHB so maybe they will redo the HM for nightmare next year.

I'll miss the HHB.

I like the HM-related merchandise and have no interest in NBC merchandise, so if WDW switches over its HM party next year they'll lose me for sure.

I have to admit that I did not like NBC the first time I saw it, but my 3 y/o old son was entranced, so we bought him the Soundtrack and I think I followed the story better, or something? But I love it now. I was surprised how well the HM took off the second year of transformation. They really did a lot more to it the second year also, I think they really marketed it better also.
Wish I had all those NBC toys I bought my DS in their packages still! I'd have a small fortune.

WDW has other Christmas activities that Disneyland doesn't, like MVMCP & Osborne Lights. I think they only have Candlelight Processional for a couple nights.

FYI - The HM -> NBC changeover in DL takes most of the month of September, with the HM totally shut down.

Wow, thanks for all the info... The story I read, and can not find now(on line, dedicated site to the Haunted Mansion), said that this year it was not going to be shut down more then a day or 2 at a time. I THINK they said that the NMC was going to be put up a room or set at a time.... really, really, not sure.....
I under stand that some parks are all ways going to have different things going on at different times, and I think that is a good thing, at least for me. It makes it nice to go see different things at different places, a fresh new way of seeing things.

I doubt it will happen in Orlando. Anaheim relies on day visitors, and they found that the Nightmare overlay is a big draw for the locals. It gives them a fairly easy way to promote something new, and create an "event."

Disney conducts very different marketing campaigns for Disneyland and WDW.

DL's HM is definetely shut down for the overlay through Sept 30 (reopens Oct 1). We won't be getting the overlay next year (from my understanding) because of the 50th Anniversary events. I've never seen the movie, but I love the overlay. But I love it the regular way, too.
