Why stay on property?

Again, I wasn't disagreeing that people put their trays outside their room. The picture you showed is precisely that scenario and it is completely acceptable, IMO, provided it gets picked up in a reasonable time frame. My comment was toward the comments that say entire hallways were basically cluttered with trays on a routine basis. That I have not seen at WDW. The occasional trays (like in your picture) I have seen.

I stay in hotels easily over 100 nights per year due to my job. I get room service a lot, and whey I am done eating I put the tray and food outside my door. And then it gets picked up. Sometimes when the food is brought to my room the hotel employee will even tell me to just leave it outside my door when I am finished (actually, they tell me to do that most of the time now that I think of it). So, IMO, having the sporadic trays outside the room isn't a big deal...unless a long period of time elapses and it doesn't get picked up. In which case I would simply tell the front desk.

In no way, shape or form is that acceptable. That's food they brought back to room from food court. They should have either thrown out in their own room or walked to a garbage can.

It's disgusting to leave all the food sitting outside, in the sun and heat, waiting for someone else to clean it up.

Gross.

I think there is a difference in perception when you order room service all the time and then leave it outside to be picked up as you do. It’s something you’re used to, so you probably don’t really notice trays or think much about it when others do it. I’m not saying it’s wrong, especially if the hotel protocol is to leave it outside your door.

But bottom line for me? They’re an eyesore and they bug me. Lol.
I prefer to not see my tray of leftovers or anyone else’s as I walk on by.

Especially when you’re paying what we all do for deluxes!

I think there's a difference too between room service and taking back trays from the quick service. Room service typically comes with domes and lids.

If I had 2 quick service trays, at minimum I'd throw all the garbage into a bag and stack the trays. Nobody wants to be looking at janky half eaten crusted over food, lol. Yuck.

Yeah. I was wondering about that too. I know the value resorts had a limited room service menu pre-COVID, but I’m not sure how it arrives.

But, yeah, regardless......bag it and trash it.

Do you really think it’s fine to leave a whole tray of food on the ground like that outdoors? Some people will put those out late at night.

If you’re on the ground floor, the only ones picking it up at that point are going to be the animals strewing it around the pathways, dragging it into the bushes and making an awful mess that nobody wants to be walking through the next morning.
If room service brought the food to your room, then yes I do think it's ok to put it outside like that. Room service knows that they have to come back by the room to pick up the tray.

Yes, if they brought it from a food court then that would not be acceptable. All my posts have been discussing trays being left out from room service. Read them. If those trays were from room service, then leaving them out by the door is perfectly acceptable. Room service knows they have to come pick those trays up from the room.

Bringing food back from a food court is an entirely different story. If someone goes to a food court and gets a tray full of food then they need to bring the tray and leftover food back to the trash cans at the food court. Room service has no way of knowing about those food court trays at those rooms. Leaving food court food out is, as you say, gross.

I think the difference is what Farro hit on in the comment above. Food court trays and food are a different story, and one that I haven't even considered. I have never brought food court food back to my room and left it outside the door. That is a totally different story and something I didn't even consider. But room service is totally different. There are plate coverings provided with room service. And room service knows they have to come pick that stuff back up and they usually do it in a timely manner. I completely agree that people should not be getting food from somewhere other than room service and leaving it outside the door. That would be totally unacceptable.

YES!! Thank you for clarifying what I just said. Room service is TOTALLY different than getting food a the food court and bringing it back to your room. Room service comes with lids to cover the plates. And room service comes back by to pick the trays/plates up, because they know they have to. Quick service is a totally different story to what I have been commenting about. There is zero issue, IMO, with leaving room service stuff out. There is a major issue with leaving non room service stuff out.

This entire thread was about room service, so I think the confusion was the semantics of room service versus food court. I think some people started lumping the two together, but they are not one in the same.

Sorry, but no. I really think people need to use some common sense here.
I don’t care how it was delivered to you.

Don’t leave food outside on the ground in the Florida heat and for the wildlife to eat. Just don’t.

Most of the values only use plastic containers anyways. Everything is disposable. It’s not like they need to collect any plates or cutlery from trays. Nobody is in any hurry to pick up a tray.

So when somebody orders room service and they are done with their food, what are they supposed to do with it? If the answer is that they should call room service to come back and pick up the tray, then they should include a small placard on the room service tray saying exactly that. Without that placard, it is completely normal to just assume you can set it outside the door and someone will be along to pick it up.

We have used both the WDW bus system and monorail. The bus picks up right at the lower level of Shades of Green. You can also walk across the street to Polynesian and grab the monorail or the boat. But, yes, you can take the WDW bus system directly from Shades of Green.

Actually, Shades of Green has their own bus system. The buses you ride from Shades are shades of Green buses. You can use the WDW buses but you'd need to walk to Poly of TTC and pick them up there.

Ok, we'll agree to disagree on this one then. I have never stayed at a value, so I have no idea what the situation is there. I can only speak to the thousands of nights I have stayed in hotels/resorts (both "normal world" and deluxe WDW) that have room service. All of those hotels come by and pick up the trays/plates when you are done. It 100%, absolutely matters "how it was delivered to you". As I commented in another thread, most hotels will literally tell you to leave the tray outside the room when you are done eating. So I think leaving them outside in a deluxe WDW resort actually IS common sense.

And you are trying to "move the goal posts" on this thread. The original conversation started by people saying this stuff happens at Poly and other deluxe resorts. That's what all my comments were addressing...deluxe WDW resorts, because those are the ones I have seen and experienced. We weren't talking about values. Poly and the other deluxe resorts aren't "outside in the Florida heat for the wildlife to eat", as you say. They have hallways and are inside, which if you go back and read all the comments is what was being discussed.

No. The conversation evolved.

You were the one that commented that the tray of food left outside on the ground at the All Stars was perfectly acceptable. That is what started our discussion about leaving a tray outside. :confused3

So yeah. We were talking about the values at that point.

Well, I also thought we were talking about room service. And then pictures were posted that were actually from the food court, but insinuated they were from room service. So, yeah, it is starting to become a little hard to keep track of what everyone is discussing. And I didn't even catch that we were talking about All Stars. The entire discussion was about Poly and the other deluxe.

My only point is, the grossness of leaving uneaten food outside your door in a value/moderate. Meaning outside, outside. Lol. Not outside your room, indoors in a hallway, but literally outside. Maybe if you’ve never stayed in a value/moderate, you just didn’t realize that it’s like a motel.

At most of the values!
Which is what was being talked about.
I obviously didn't know values was the discussion. I have now said that multiple times. Again, go back and look at the thread. The original discussion was people saying you shouldn't leave room service trays outside at Poly and the other deluxe. So it may have evolved to something else, but that was obviously lost on me. I have never stayed at a value so I can't speak intelligently as to what happens there.

But rewind the convo. I haven't seen trays completely cluttering deluxe hallways. And if people are bringing food back from non room service places and leaving it outside the room in deluxe resorts (or anywhere, really) then that is wrong. But, in deluxe resorts, if room service trays (complete with actual plates, actual glasses, actual silverware, dome lids for plates, etc) are being left out in hallways then that is completely acceptable. Especially with the domes covering the plates. Do you disagree?
