Frankly, most of the childish remarks have been made by you. If you are secure in your choice, why belittle others' choices? And I have a hard time you were looking for information that might change your mind. Your original post made your feelings on the subject quite clear.

Wow...sounds like a grade school playground remark. I guess humor is lost on most folks on this board. And I don't recall saying anyone was stupid for doing anything. I can't wait for the Yo Mama insults to begin.

I guess I'll keep being the oddball who likes paying less and going more often. Let me know when the next intervention happens.

See, there's another great example of different strokes. We are able to go to Disney as often as we'd like *and* stay on site. We only have so much time we can take away from our committments here at home, so saving on accomodations doesn't mean more/longer trips. We'd much rather spend the extra money on staying onsite to make better use of the time we do have. Like another poster said, watching TV and eating spaghetti can be done at home, but nothing can compare to watching Wishes from the beach at night or being only a quick boat ride from the magic in the morning.

I don't feel belittled -- but let's face it, when you compare people's behavior to cults, say they "drank the Kool-Aid", comparing others' behavior to addiction, etc. you aren't engaging in respectful debate. Exchange of ideas and opinions begins with RESPECT, something you might be capable of but haven't displayed in this thread. (BTW, women in the Jim Jones camp were forced to watch their children drink poisoned Kool-Aid and die in front of them so that they themselves would drink the poison without fighting back...so you might want to think before using that particular phrase - a lot of people DIED, a lot of people watched their innocent children KILLED in that situation.)

We have all pretty much agreed on the savings of offsite.

We all know that "value" and "worth" have different meanings to different people.

Exactly! For us, we didn't find the savings and advantages to be worth the hassles. Budget isn't high priority for our travel, so savings isn't a big motivator, and we didn't think the savings were that great after figuring in a rental car and parking. We like Disney restaurants and late nights in the parks, plus I don't cook on vacation unless we're camping, so we'd eat most meals on property or at nice off-property restaurants anyway. The main advantage to a rental home, for us, would be space/privacy, but having more space isn't worth the added hassles of driving.

I tend to agree with you OhioDisneyDad. Cost is important and I always look for a good deal on lodging. Sometimes it’s off-site and sometimes I get a better deal on-site. Lodging expense varies depending upon a number of factors not the least of which is the time of year.

I’ve always been amazed at the high prices that DVC members are willing to pay when they could have purchased better accommodations for far less money. Then again, DVC rentals can often be found at rock bottom prices so I have no complaint.

Some guests who regularly visit WDW never consider all the lodging options that are available. They overlook good deals on lodging due to inexperience or perhaps because they’re set in their ways.

WDW resorts and off-site resorts are now tremendously over built and that makes the area a bargain hunters paradise for both on and off-site accommodations. The next time you see a DVC member thank them for all those vacant and low cost rooms!

I don't need your pity, but thanks anyway! I'm just stating the facts about the origins of one of the phrases you chose to use. But when you make statements like "you should seek professional help" then all I have to say is have a great day and enjoy your money-saving offsite trips!

Honestly, I do not think one person on this thread would disagree with you DVD. If cost is important to you, or even if you would rather use your vacation dollars for things other than your accommodations, off-site is a great and very appealing option. If you don't mind driving and want to do more things off property, again, off-site is a great choice. I do not think anyone would argue that if it works for you, go for it.

I think the problem here is that when people offered their reasoning for staying on site, the comments made back were snarky, at best. Why ask if you are going to dismiss the answers, especially in a somewhat nasty way? I am sure if I said ODD was in the "penny pinching cult" or asked "what are you smoking?" because he preferred off-site, he would not have cared for it.

Bottom line is...we chose to spend our $$ to stay onsite and will continue to do so. While other time shares may have been less expensive...it makes no difference to us. We had the $$, we spent it, we are happy, kids are happy. It really should not make much difference to anyone else. We feel we get our money's worth and we value our membership.

I have not read all the replies....but I will say that back in the 80's when my parents brought me to Disney World, we flew down from NY and they rented a vacation home also. It had several bedrooms and access to a community pool. When we'd go to the parks, I would longingly stare at all the lucky kids that got to stay on-site, where the real magic was! I HATED getting on that monorail to the parking lot.

so, now I own DVC. And it's worth every penny to me.

Hmmm, well, we've stayed with the inlaws who live about 20 minutes away from WDW and we totally didn't enjoy commuting back and forth between the parks and their house. It really didn't feel like a vacation to us leaving WDW each night to drive elsewhere. Now you can see by my signature that we LOVE going to WDW and you'll also note we stay in the resorts which give us the most convenience. That is what we're looking for in our vacations -- convenience and relaxation. Beach Club is our favorite resort and our typical day could be something like this: go to a park in the morning, back to BC in the afternoon for a swim and rest, then shower and walk to Epcot for dinner and watch Illuminations (or else walk to MGM and watch Fantasmic), and then our twins fall asleep in the stroller after the night shows and we adults get a snack/drink and walk back to BC. A lot of times if the twins are sleeping soundly (LOL), we'll walk over to the Boardwalk and get a snack there and just enjoy the scenery of the Boardwalk. It's extremely relaxing to us staying at the Epcot resorts because we don't have to bother with unpacking and folding up our double jogger for a bus or car. We can walk to parks or catch the monorail inside Epcot over to MK and we are stress-free as can be because we know we're just an easy walk/monorail/boat ride away from "home." So......how was all that ~ convincing?

- When I am on vacation, I do not want to worry about if I am wrecking someone else's home. Or more specifically, if my children are wrecking someone else's home.

- When I am on vacation, I do not want to plan meals, grocery shop, cook, clean up the kitchen, load the dishwasher, empty the dishwasher or anything else.

- When I am on vacation, I want a maid! Every day!

- When I am on vacation, I want to walk outside my room and jump on a bus and ride to my destination. I don't want to drive, give directions to my husband or listen to the same radio that I can hear at home.

- When I am on vacation, I want to hear "Have a magical day!" when I disembark the bus or monorail. I enjoy hearing my 5-year-old tell the driver "thank you for the ride." Sure beats "are we there yet?"

- At the end of a long day or for a mid-day break, I want to walk out and get on an air-conditioned bus. I want to hold my sleeping toddler in my arms instead of waking him up to strap him into his car-seat that is 110 degrees.

- During my afternoon break, I want to walk around Lago Dorado at CSR, stop in at Panchito's and pick up a souvenir, and refill my mug with Coke. Fountain drinks taste better than canned or bottled.

- And I don't want my vacation to end until we're driving past the sign that says, "We'll See You Real Soon!" and I know we're leaving Disney property for good.

And the Florida resident rates are a nice perk!

I see I'm not the only one who thought the OP had a little tone in there!

He can stay offsite all he wants, it's his vacation. But speaking as someone who has stayed both on and offsite, I prefer to stay onsite. Looks like next time it will be the Poly!!(my dad picked it-I'm taking him on a father/daughter trip next year)

You know, my best friend was married to a guy like the OP-you couldn't have a normal conversation with the guy. He'd start out of the gate being sarcastic and condescending and when you called him on his snarky comments, all of a sudden, YOU were the one with the problem(you were too sensitive, touchy etc etc etc). I think the fact that the majority of the people on this thread picked up on his snide tone says something. Namely, that the OPs sole intent was to stir the pot, and that we are not the ones with the problem.

Ultimately, I stay onsite because I can afford to, and because it makes my vacation more enjoyable.End of story. Now, I'm off to drink another cup of kool-aid....

We stay on-site due to we dont like to drive on vacation, we only stay at AKL which means we get to wake up to animals outside on the balcony we get the EMH's, we can add on the dining plan which means paying for your food in advance these are just a few of the reason but we will never stay off-site again after experiencing on-site
