why split stays?

We split with BCV (sometimes BWV) and BLT. Concentrate on MK while at BLT since it a few minute walk, and then EPCOT and DHS while at BCV since we can walk to them. Moving day is little effort-they take the bags to the next room while we hit a park or SAB to swim/relax.

Yes, two reservations. So, there is a bit more risk involved. In the event the reservations would need to be changed or canceled close to the travel date, the fees would be x2. That is the only part about a split stay that I don't like!:rotfl:

Thank you so much! We have never done a split stay before but it's looking like our August/September 2013 will be a split stay for sure! :thumbsup2

My split stay was because a Feb family trip got snowed out and we rebooked in September, my October solo trip was just redundant then as I didn't want two airfares within weeks of each other so I tagged a few days to the end of the family trip for my Solo trip.

Family trip was spent at BC (parents prefer Deluxe), Solo trip was done at FQ (both to try out a new hotel but also to save a bit of money as I was paying for the hotels). IN addition we flew in late at night, and I didn't want to spend almost $300 dollars for a room we would only arrive to sleep in so we spent the first night offsite at a midrange chain.

For me it's often about money. On my next trip a lot will depend on where I end up spending my days. I have some offsite plans so may just stay offsite a day or so. The rest will just be spent at one onsite resort.

I am planning another trip for a year or so in winter that will probably be a week long. As the prices will be better I might do a split to try out some different resorts or even Club Level. But I don't mind the moving on a longer trip.

Short trip would only stay one, but in a week I could do two resorts no problem.

I think some folks like to stay a few nights at a value, and a few nights at a deluxe. That way they get to stay in a deluxe for a least a few nights. Maybe they don't feel they can afford to stay at a deluxe for their entire visit.

I've not done a split stay because we usually only go for 4 or 5 nights, and that seems like too much work to change resorts after 2 nights, and only stay 2 more nights at another resort. If I were going for a full week though, I'd definitely do a split stay.

We did a split stay once. I believe it was in 2006. We did 3 nights at POR and 4 nights at the Poly. I thought it would feel like two separate vacations. It did, two short separate vacations. We decided moving resorts wasn't for us in the future and haven't since. It's just a different feeling vacation for us and it can feel like you're kind of homeless when you check out of one resort and it could be 5-6 hours before you can go back to your next room (which stinks if you're not feeling well, tired, or it's pouring rain). Plus, we didn't time the check-in at a good time and it was packed, adding a 20-30 minute delay to our evening.

We do split stays because it feels like two different vacations. However we would never do a 3 or 4 day split. We are DVC and go for two full weeks. We spend 7 days in one resort and then switch on a Saturday, which we always plan as a non-park day because it is the most crowded and then stay in another resort for another 7 full days

We loved our split stay. However I would never do it for less than 4 nights at each resort. Also moving day was a no park day. We asked for a late check out and got it. It helped so we were only "homeless" for about 2 hours. We spent that at the pool.

We really liked being able to check out 2 different resorts. DH says that was our best vacation out of the 10 we spent at Disney so far.

:rotfl2:

I couldn't kep the trip a surprise, but I didn't spill the beans on how long. So after 5 nights at the poly when we pack our bags to leave I'm then going to drive over to AoA for two more nights. Surprise. And also, two more nights at the AoA room only is cheaper than one more night at the Poly with Deluxe dining.

wow! what a neat surprise!

Not me. When I go on vacation, I unpack and relax. I wouldn't want to lose time packing up, moving and etc. Split stays not for everyone:thumbsup2

That's how I feel about it. I knew I must be missing something since so many people do the split stays. I really like to have that "home away from home" feeling that you get from being in the one place for a while. Your reasons make sense, though. I see why you would want to do an Epcot resort and a MK resort. I never would have thought of that. Of course, we don't spend too much time at our resort, so we spend the money on more days at a value rather than a shorter trip to a mod or deluxe. This will be the last time for that, though, since DS will be 2 1/2 this time and next time we go he'll be our 5th person.

Thanks everyone for sharing! :)

You don't have to go homeless all day. You can check out at 11am.. Have lunch at the park and stay until 3pm and take the bus to your new resort. Or you can check out at 11am and head out to your new resort, if the room is ready great, if not, then have lunch at your new resort and go for a swim and walk around the ground. OR you can walk around DTD and have lunch there until 3pm. Very easy to do, but probably not for those who have small children and babies.
