Why so much hate for the value resorts?

I am just wondering why there is such a lack of love for the value resorts on the boards? Is it because of a different standard of living, location, price, etc.? I have stayed at WL, POP, CBR and an up coming trip to ASMu. I have also stayed on and off property at Disneyland. Each trip has been wonderful and I have enjoyed staying at each level of resort with no complaints. I might be the odd man out however, but I am just excited that we get to visit fairly often so the level of resort is really not a "huge" factor in our decision to go. Of course I would love to spend our holiday booked at the WL or Poly, but given that we are a one income family right now while I am in nursing school I am just blessed to visit at all!
Please don't flame me, I just don't understand the "I would rather stay home" type of reaction I see a lot regarding the values.:confused3

I don't understand the beliefs that value resorts are "the projects" either. We LOVE Pop, and we really enjoyed the All Stars (all 3) each time we have stayed at them.

We stay moderate or value. I am proud to say that - because I AM AT DISNEY!!!!!!!! :thumbsup2 :goodvibes

I loe the values because they can make the difference between going to WDW or staying home. The price makes it affordable for us. We can't wait to see Pop in April. :hippie:

You're never going to get an accurate or objective answer to that question. Some people just have different standards, that's all. People get used to what they've stayed at. We stayed at POR for years and loved it, but after getting DVC, only stayed there one time due to a last second trip that came up. We quickly realized that we could never go back. Also, for some, the level of resort is a huge factor, especially if you spend some time there. It then opens up a whole new world of enjoyment besides running out to parks all the time.

We love Pop. We are kicking around the idea of moving to a Mod next trip, just for the hottub, but are not sure that it is worth it for something that we may only use once--we spend almost all of our time in the parks, a room is for sleeping and showering.

I've never noticed anything approaching "hate" from the overall board population. Maybe a poster or a few here and there. The boards have lots of people that stay at values and love them, people that stay at deluxes only, people that think the values are not for them, people who think the deluxes are a waste of money and every type of person in between.

I agree with this. I haven't noticed any more hate directed towards values than the other hotel types. :confused3 People have different tastes & opinions, which is why Disney offers so many different resort options.

We usually stay at a moderate, but mostly because we fell in love with POFQ. We want to try Pop next trip. Stayed at WL last trip and loved it. Since we go every year, our desires are changing since we don't feel like we have to spend every waking minute at the parks. (Just MOST of them!). So, we look for comfort, location, restaurants etc. I'd also love to try the new Animation resort one day.

o.k. i am not value fan..but i haven't stayed at one, just dropped of guests via the ME and saw pop. to me it looked loud and crazy. the values house alot more people than the deluxes, so your are on vacation with a LOT of people. the drop off point to me was very univiting..loud 80's music, lots of people, long bus line in uncovered bus stops, dirty bricks for the kids to play with whilst the parents waited in a LONG line for check out/in. now i can understand the appeal to some people, the price and disney buses, big icons for the kids, but i really like the detailed theming at the deluxes, the room size the choice of places to eat, pools with slides, covered bus stops, beautiful lobbies and grounds the resorts we stay at are a HUGE part of our vacation. i just know the values aren't for us, but i don't begrudge anyone who wants to stay at one, to each their own. :goodvibes

I am going to Disney World in February for the first time and booked a Moderate resort because I didn't think I could handle a Value. When traveling, I typically stay at Mariott hotels which are very consistent in cleanliness, beds, decor, etc. The Disney Value resorts seem more like Motel 6's to me...which there is nothing wrong with, it is just not the comfort level I personally like when on vacation.

The other HUGE factor is the number of children at the resorts. We are a childless married couple and because of the price and theming of the Values, it appeals more to families with children. Obviously all resorts have lots of kids, but I'm sure the Values have considerably more and we like some level of peace and quiet whenever possible. We love kids, we really do, but since we don't have our own, we want a more adult-friendly trip to enjoy our time together. We couldn't afford a Deluxe stay so we went with a Mod (CSR). It was the difference between us going and not going at all, just like with some people in the Values, where they couldn't afford to go at all unless they stay at a Value resort...nothing wrong with it! :)

Think HATE is a strong word to use. I have never noticed that strong a view over the Value resorts. :confused3 It just comes down to personal taste and how you like to do your vacations. Value is not for me for various reasons but I would still rather stay there then stay off resort because I love the feeling of just being IN Disney. My main reason for staying in a mod (POR) opposed to a value is they offer more pools, slightly bigger rooms, a fridge and in general have a more peaceful settings. But for every person loving a mod or Delux there will always be another that loves the value for their own set of reasons. I don't think there is any right or wrong resorts to stay in, everybody is different.:)

I've never really observed that much hate for the values on the board. I would say some of them have a rather strong following. I have stated a couple of times that at this stage of my life I have no interest in staying at a value, but there is no hate there. Disney has a resort for everyone.

That philosophy must be from the folks who prefer to stay in suites on Disney cruise ships: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2822781

While my preference is to stay at the Swan or Dolphin for their wonderful beds and location, I have an upcoming reservation at All Star Music. I have also stayed at All Star Movies and All Star Sports.

I have a reservation for 3 nights at an inexpensive B&B in Munich next summer. To save money, I booked a single with the bathroom down the hall. :teeth: The only time I'd see myself saying "I'd rather stay home" is if the accommodations involved tent camping! :lmao:

I have stayed at CBR, CR, PO, Pop, and all of the All Stars. While each resort has their pros and cons, I would rather stay at a value for a longer vacation than at a Mod or Deluxe for a short period of time. It is just DH and myself and I like ASMo the best as it is the smallest.

It's funny. We've stayed at Pop numerous times, and while riding in on the ME (which also takes guests to CBR and AKL) I would often overhear comments a la "Look at how gaudy this place is" or "it's nothing more than a motel" etc.

But when you think about it, isn't CBR nothing more than a glorified motel? Aren't all the moderates? Anytime you have to leave the main building and walk outside to "your" building, or use an exterior walkway to get to your room, well, sorry folks, that's a motel. Even the Grand Floridian makes you do some of that, provided you're not in the main building.

The bottom line is that most resorts on property are overpriced for what you get, but staying at a value is the best price for what you're getting. I don't have to stay at the AKL to visit it, to see the animals, to sit in the lobby, to have a drink at the bar or dine at Jiko. And it didn't cost me $300 a night to do that either. :goodvibes

This is from Dec 2010...
Wife and I usually stay at CSR but wanted to try others and chose POP...our reservation was for a room in the closest 50's building to lobby and a bottom floor due to hip problem...ended up with 50's building 2 rm 2309...a long walk with bad hip...3rd floor...so much for requests...day 1 wife went to use snack credit did not work...got new keys...then would not work in door..,.went back a 2nd time...told all was ok...my key worked hers did not...another long walk...we had to walk 4 times to lobby...to get keys straightened out...day 2...took shower...tub did not drain...another waqlk but this time we were going to a park...asked to be compensated...got flowers in room...somethying more substantial was expected....1 good thing house keeping was excellent....
on to the food court...hello....anyone ever hear of manners...guests there were the most impolite rude people...kids running...screaming....kids pushing me a 56 yo man out of way to get to soda...got a bacon cheeseburger....tasted like vomit.....only halfway decent food was pizza ...but not that good....and another thing was the piggyness of families....throwing things on floor....saw one family get up and leave and floor looked like it blew up...WE ARE A SPOILED SOCIETY....I could go on and on but will not....all I can say is Never again at POP...now on to MVMCP....again does anyone have manners...strollers must have hit my feet 100 times...note to DISNEY....YOU ARE SELLING WAY TO MANY TICKETS TO THESE EVENTS....
One more general comment...we were in the happiest place on earth and NO ONE WAS HAPPY....just my 2 cents....want to flame me...BRING IT ON!!!!!

Before we became DVC members, we would stay in either a moderate or a Deluxe Resort not because we didn't like the Values, but because our time at our resort is just as important as our time in the parks. We like to relax during the day at our resort and enjoy the amenities that they offer. However, for our upcoming trip in January we decided to do a split stay and go to BCV for 3 nights and then head over to Pop for 3 nights (kids have no idea about that part of the trip) and we are all very excited about it. DH and I love to try new things whenever we are on our Disney trips and this will surely be different for us (not in a bad way of course) and I am so excited to relive my childhood with all of the fun icons from my youth.

at the akl we didn't pay 300.00 a nite...more like 200.00 after discount/taxes. totally a value imo for a very unique disney resort. yes you can go and sit and see the animals and dine but to stay there is really an experience that trumps having to leave after dining and seeing the animals.
