Why so many Saratoga Resales?

We just bought at the resort and would like advice from some of you that have been doing this for awhile. Best time of year, when to reserve, etc. :surfweb:

Most DVC resorts are busy during Early December. The poit required is in a low season, and all the Holiday decorations ad shows are running. School Christmas vacation through New Year's is also a hard time to book. Spring Break is also popular. All o those season should be booked during your resort priority window, preferably as close to the 11 month mark as possible. EPCOT area DVCs (BWV & BCV) also book heavily during food & wine festival, and to a lesser degree Flower & Garden festival. Early June is also a popular DVC time, as schools in some areas of the country are out for the summer and the point usage is reasonable. For any annual Special Events (Star Wars Weekends, Night of Joy, Marathon, etc) it is best to book as early as possible.

I was told that the earlier you arrive, the better chance you have for getting a choice room.

Yah, but if you get there too early with nothing to do ... might find yourself waiting until 4pm ... :(

But there ARE advantages to owning SSR...

1) you have points avaiable now, where as waiting for a NEW DVC resort could take a few years.

2) SSR is a lovely resort, and may very well be there first choice of location for that owner. I know OKW, another large resort is my first choice, and I haven't used my points anywhere else in 30+ visits...and I book at the 11 month window most of the time.

3) currently SSR has lower dues than any other WDW resort

4) 12 additional years to use that membership

5) As to resale value, the same was said about OKW, I paid $51.50 per point, I think I can sell at a reasonable profit now, if I chose to sell.

I just checked our sponsor's resales. There are 21 OKW resales, 19 SSR resales, and 19 VWL resales (including sale pending).

You might want to ask, "Why so many VWL resales?", since it's the smallest DVC :confused3. Maybe they're all selling their VWL interests to buy into SSR!

SSR might be the largest, but I like the point value at OKW.

19 resales for a new disney place? Thaat's a lot.
I personally agree that OKW is a better value and a resort

Good question Dis-best but one I can't answer. My best guess is that the majority of those resales are of the buyers remorse type or those who simply couldn't afford it. It all sounds good when you sign on that dotted line then you get home and think it through. I don't find it all unusual to see SSR resales of that number. That number seems low to me for the size of the resort. Resale values of SSR will climd steadily and soon it will be selling for more than BCV. It only make sense when you think about it. It is great to own a resort where you can actually get a reservation there. BCV owners are fighting dirty rooms, stained carpets and still have hard times getting ressies. No sir, not for me, I'll take SSR any day.

lol....Seems to me that VWL resale count is alot. Especially when you consider the small size of the resort.

I also agree with SSR lover, that there is a precentage of buyer remorse once they get home. SSR is the resort that is being pitched to the masses. And I am sure that if you did a little research, that there is that small precentage of individuals that have that remorse or realize that they are over their heads.

i counted all the resales at the timeshare store
we got 6 at bcv
5 at bwv
4 at hh
20 at okw
20 at ssr
9 at vb
21 at vwl
what stands out the most to me is the 21 at vwl. its a small dvc resort and it has more than anyone. why there is nothing wrong with vwl its a nice resort. in a couple of months from now vwl might be down to 5 or whatever or it still might be over 20.

The amount of resales for a particular resort seems to go in cycles. I remember a thread on this board not too terribly long ago wondering why VWL seemed to be such a hot commodity on the resale market and everyone was posting questions and trip reports about VWL.

I don't really pay too much attention to that stuff. We simply bought where we loved and wanted to stay the majority of time.

But we don't have any intentions of ever selling either. :)

For a place that has yet been sold out Saratoga Springs. It is big number of resales

I agree... For a resort that is new, I think that is a large number of resales. Why would someone sell in such a short time and take a loss on their investments?

I can understand the reason behind some of the older resorts, but so many resales at a new resort? What will happen in the future if/when DVC opens a newer resort at a premium location?

Did you notice that lisa-viloet's post (above) was edited(censored??)? She was giving an honest reason on why she is selling her points as i recall from her post last night.

Someone here with a "hidden interest" may have wanted it edited or removed. Someone who is involved in reselling or selling DVC points?

As I suspect, some posters who give "heavenly" remarks about Saratoga Springs (apartments) are perhaps trying to dump their Saratoga Springs points... and perhaps they are also the same people who get very offended when people give negative comments about Saratoga because it will be bad for their sales.

My comment on why discounted AP's are now offered to DVC members to boost sales of Saratoga Springs still stands. Why would they offer it to us? That is equvalent to losing money on their part..bugt their true motive is...as I said..to sell Saratoga Springs.

Before I stayed at Saratoga Springs I checked the comments about Saratoga Springs. One of the comments I recalled was " wait for the (resort) to mature." After my visit, my own translation now is:
" I know it is Walmart now, but wait for it until it matures to Super Walmart"
or
" You think it is just a U-Haul truck? Wait a little while and it will mature into an "18 wheeler truck." That is how my opinion stands as of last month.

Bolding mine. I don't believe that for a second. First of all, this is hardly the first SSR bashing thread, there have been several which have been around, with all comments standing, which is probably why people tire of them.

It also can cut both ways here. How does anyone here know that those that come on as "new" posters and start blasting SSR aren't working for one of the competing timeshare companies?

I'm not accusing anyone of doing that actually, I'm just saying that if you are going to put something like that out there, there's lots of ways to slice it.

We took the SSR tour in April. It is a lovely resort and thought the views of and from DTD were beautiful. We simply decided we wanted to be closer to the parks and bought BWV because of the standard views which help stretch the points a little further. However, SSR may be an absolutely perfect fit for someone else.

On any given day, you can see negative threads about any resort. That's why it's great to have so many choices and no one is forcing anyone to buy or stay somewhere they don't want to.

It's a personal choice and no one should be questioning someone else's private decision.

I admire the honesty of the mentioned poster. Just wondering why the post was edited/censored. But that is a mystery left to "wonder".... the end.

I often wonder how many people who post are part of the DVC sales force.

You really need to stay at SSR to truly experience the resort.

As I mentioned in early postings this thread was not intended to bash SSR. The true intent is for those to offer their honest opinions from their experiences good or bad. It benefits no one to bash a resort but constructive criticism is always welcomed. I for one enjoy reading about everyones experiences good or bad.

Just to clarify... I just thought that maybe.....maybe....the poster was "FORCED" to edit the post. If that was the poster's own decision...so be it. I admire her honesty on that (edited) post. I don't want further explanation from the poster.
