Why shouldn't I rent points?

I did a quick search for the nights I am interested and if I rent disney vacation club points, it about half the cost of the lowest rate I am getting on the disney site and kayak. Is there something I am missing? Why wouldn't I just rent the points and book instead of booking through disney directly?

You will, in all probability, not be able to cancel or change your reservation once it is made. Most DVC reservations are made 7-11 months in advance. You would probably be best off going to the DVC rent/trade board on the dis to get a feel for what you are getting into.

This. The last time I rented points for VWL in early December, there was construction on the main pool. Hot tubs were closed, pool opened, then closed again, there was construction all over the kids' splash pad...it really was a mess. It was supposed to be finished, in late November, but wasn't. If I had a regular reservation, I would have changed resorts, however DVC availability was very limited to places I didn't want to stay...such as SSR. To me, the inability to change your reservation is the biggest downside. There is no daily cleaning, but that doesn't bother me. The price really is great, but I'm probably done renting after my last experience.
