I agree with shatzjsl, and we only tried EE once during our stay of 2 weeks we just returned from. We tried EE at MK, but actually didn't arrive until about 8:20. It was closer to 8:30 by the time we made it off the FW boat, through bag check and ticket counter. By the time we got to Dumbo the line was 30 mins. long, and people were already pouring into the park from the main entrance for non-onsite folks. I felt it was not really an "early magic hour", but instead an "early magic half-hour". We were disappointed in that one thing, and decided to just sleep a little later, then go into a park that was not having EE for that day. We mistakenly went to AK on EE day, though much later in the day, and it was awful!
Shatzjsl, I think we did the exact same thing as your family. The E-ride night (6-21) was soooo much fun! No waits!! I told my kids to save the big rides for that night, and we had a blast!
I felt that Epcot never really had any lines on any day. I'm guessing people aren't going there for the attractions as much, but just wandering around. We went on the Mexico boat ride so that we could have just a bit of "Small World" during our trip.
