does orlando not have a store around disney to run and grab a few items like bottled water and a few needed items???

Many folks fly to Orlando, and use a transportation service instead of renting a car or driving their own car.

Shipping or using a grocery service is less expensive than getting a taxi or even a 1-day rental car.

Personally, I prefer renting a car myself and going to get my various drinks and snacks on the way from the airport; this also allows me to go back out at any time during the trip for any extra stuff I might need.

But since I've never shipped a case of bottled water, I am curious to know how it's done and how much it costs. For something as heavy as a case of water, I would imagine that the shipping cost would be pretty steep.

What clkelley said...
We usually take Tiffany Town cars and they do offer a 30 min. grocery stop that we take advantage of :thumbsup2

It's much cheaper to buy cases of water for less than $10 (32 bottles) as opposed to spending $2.50-$3.00 per bottle of water in the parks or in the resort gift shops! We generally get water, milk, and cereal (we have the fridge in the YC/BC). If we didn't use Tiffany Town Cars, we would definitely take advantage of gardengrocer or a similar convenience! :)

And some people (myself included) dont want to mess with it when at WDW. Even if I was renting a car, I'd rather have it waiting for me at the resort then have to stop and get it, then unload it, along with all the luggage etc etc.. I'm looking forward to being on vacation from the moment I step off the plane in MCO (except for checking into the hotel). After that, as far as I'm concerned, I'm 10 years old for the next 8 days :). (well unless I want a beer, then I can be my real age) :goodvibes

Or you can have a MIL who lives locally and will pick up a case of water for you at her local Walmart and drop it off at your resort :cool1:

I just put a case of water in biggest suit case for the trip then when it is gone more room for suveniors.

Good Question.

Well of course they do, ;) it is not the Australian outback even though with the way people ship in food and water you would think so.

I mean thousands of people do live in this area and shop daily.

That said, I guess some just prefer to have it taken care of this way, instead of going to the local stores. I think it mostly convenience and can't be a huge savings over the local Wal-Mart just down the road from Disney.

We took Magical Express and did not rent a car so we had cases of water shipped from Staples (although I don't think they offer free shipping with the Rewards program anymore) and I filled a suitcase with cereal, cereal bars, paper bowls, spoons, snacks, etc for the room. We did this mainly for convenience, but it saved us lots of money too!

Sure there are stores, and anyone is welcome to stop and shop there if they want to, or they are welcome to have it shipped to themselves also :).

It's great having a choice isnt it??? :cool1:

I can definitely see the convenience, but why would it save you lots of money too?

Either it saved them because they didnt have to buy snacks in the parks as often, or again, how do they get this stuff purchased if you have no wheels???!?! Plus buying it locally was probably cheaper / shopped for bargains before they went..

I dont know how much a place like gardengrocer charges to shop for you.

Definitely understand the savings if comparing it to the resort shops, or ordered from garden grocer, or as you said had no car and had to rent one.

But I guess at times I feel some think that prices around Disney World are higher than at home and truly if you get off the property they are not. Wal-Mart prices are pretty consistent.

Then we get what we need/want nearby. I have directions to a Super Wal-Mart close by if desired.:thumbsup2

Garden Grocer is $12 to shop and deliver for you. They will leave it at the desk if you are not in your room, but you are given a time frame if you want to be there when it's delivered. Cold items are also kept cold for you.

I have seen a lot of good remarks about Garden Grocer...I'm already making a list to order from them before we go:idea:

In the past we have always made a run to the store after dinner on our first night there, because we always rent a car. But this trip we will be there for 5nights with free dining so we really don't need much. The water is expensive in the parks I beleive about 3 or 4 dollars a bottle which quickly adds up on a hot summers day with a family. For 2 cases of water with S&H it's about $21 sounds expensive? Let's assume the water is $3 a bottle for a family of 4 thats $12, do that 2 times and you're up to $24 for 8 bottles one day  I'm thinking of sending a small box with a box of cereal, granola bars, sun lotion, a small cont. of laundry det. & crystal light for the water bottles we will be picking up at a convenience store on the way in along with milk. We like to eat breakfast in our room so we can have a quick bite and be on our way and don't have to deal with the chaos of the food court first thing in the am. So it's not the price of food or the closeness of the stores, it's not having a car or not wanting to waste your vacation time and not wanting to pay disney prices for every little thing. Linda

People just need to be careful with this. A half-liter bottle of water - the 'typical' individual size - weighs about a pound. If that's all you put in that suitcase (well-wrapped, of course, in case any bottle springs a leak :)), no problem. Otherwise you run the very real risk of overweight luggage. (note: "you" in the above response refers to anyone, not necessarily the person who posted the suggestion).

I can definitely see the convenience, but why would it save you lots of money too?
If you use Magical Express to get to and from the airport, it's free (money-saving step one) plus using a grocery delivery service prevents impulse shopping (money-saving step two). :teeth:

Staples only offers free shipping if the order is over $50, so what a lot of folks have started doing is ordering the case of water and also ordering something more expensive that they need anyway such as a printer cartridge that will bring the total to over $50, then they can just toss the printer cartridge in their luggage for the trip home.
