why ship food and water

People just need to be careful with this. A half-liter bottle of water - the 'typical' individual size - weighs about a pound. If that's all you put in that suitcase (well-wrapped, of course, in case any bottle springs a leak :)), no problem. Otherwise you run the very real risk of overweight luggage. (note: "you" in the above response refers to anyone, not necessarily the person who posted the suggestion).

I put a case of water in a suitcase and weighed the suitcase and it was only 37 pounds, well within the limit.

Since I live local and drive to Disney, I usually buy my non-perishables ahead of time and take them with me. But I do supplement with perishable items at the Disney shops. Their prices are really no worse than the average convenience store for the same items. There are three Hess convenience stores on property as well (I feel the easiest one to access without a car is the one across from DTD) that have a good variety of drinks and snacks.

I feel it's a transportation and convenience issue for a lot of people to pre-ship, especially when it comes to heavy items like water. If you aren't used to drinking the local tap water (and even if you are) it is an acquired taste. Now that all the rooms except values have refrigerators, it's more convenient, and tasty, to just stock the fridge with bottled water. It's also cheaper to buy it in bulk than to buy one at a time in the parks.

Bringing your own snacks and water is one way to help keep the budget under control or to save money for other things. Plus, if you have breakfast stuff in the room already, it saves you a lot of time in the morning when people are getting ready to go to the parks.

I just put a case of water in biggest suit case for the trip then when it is gone more room for suveniors.

I was just going to ask about this. I would prefer to bring along these items (water, cereal bars) so I don't have to mess with any of it when I get there. Has anyone ever has a problem with taking the stuff with you?

Not at all. I have a rolling duffel bag and I've packed it full with bottled water and juice boxes on 3 separate trips. Each time it's been well within the weight limit for travel on Southwest, US Airways and Air Tran. This has saved me a ton of money. I'd much rather bring along my own juice boxes than pay $1.59 per juice box and that other ungodly price for bottled water at Disney. :scared1:

I usually rent a car but while I could make a supermarket or Wal-Mart run, once I park the car at Disney I don't feel like moving it. :lmao:

I'm curious if anyone else has done this in the past with no problems? The way luggage is handled at airports I just envision the water bottles leaking and closing down a flight or even a section of the airport while they check to see what is leaking:scared1: film at 11:rolleyes1

Staples only offers free shipping if the order is over $50, so what a lot of folks have started doing is ordering the case of water and also ordering something more expensive that they need anyway such as a printer cartridge that will bring the total to over $50, then they can just toss the printer cartridge in their luggage for the trip home.
great idea!!!!!

The only time I brought food/snacks/drinks was back when we were going during hurricane frances. I had read on the boards during Charlie that things were closed down so we wanted to be prepared. I just packed one suitcase of our snacks. We didn't go over the weight limit and had an extra suitcase for the way back. We still bought the boxed meals that they were selling at the Poly in preparation for the approaching hurricane, however it was nice to have something different since we had to eat those boxed meals for three meals.

Otherwise, we do not bring water/snacks we just bite the bullet and pay for the high disney food the whole time. This year I might bring cereal for the kids as that's what they usually want in the morning, but I will buy the little milks for them to use.

I ship water from Staples and bring one suitcase with snack/food items. I am a Weight Watcher lifetime member and really live by the 6 - 8oz. glasses a water a day thing. So my family of 3 will go through 3-4 cases of water bottles in 8 days on site. So we can't carry that on the plane with us! Then i also take muffins for myself for breakfast and granola/snack bars to carry into the park for mid-day snacks!
The Staples free shipping thing works wonders for us!

No, not at all. It is just the easiest for me I only travel with my little sister and she packs really light so the extra suit case I just filled with food, and water. Very easy and I never went over the weight limit and they are not very strict about the weight any ways, because last year I went to the Dominican Republic for two weeks and brought a lot of my own water. I went over the limit and they just put a heavy label on my bag.

The water is expensive in the parks I beleive about 3 or 4 dollars a bottle which quickly adds up on a hot summers day with a family.

Actually, it's only $2 a bottle, but your point is valid - buying several bottles of water per person per day at WDW adds up to a lot of scratch that could other wise be more gainfully employed.

What are the directions to that walmart? We are renting a car and would like to food shop ourselves. I think walmart is always the cheapest.

Here it is on Google Maps (the aerial photo is old, the WalMart wasn't quite finished then):

we pack water bottles, cereal, peanut butter and some snacks in an extra suitcase. we are usually 5 people so we may put some water bottles in each person's case to avoid overweight limit. Then, on the trip back we use that extra suitcase for souvenirs.
We use ME, have no car there and really who wants to waste their time grocery shopping while on vacation
