Hi, I have seen it here so many times that renting points is the cost effective way to go at Disney but I need some clarification...

I booked the BC for $289.60 (AAA discount) w/ tax per night in August, so room total would be $2896 for 10 nights. :teacher:

I looked at the points for the same days & I get this...(5 of us so no studio)
BCV (1 bedroom) 28 pts per night (Sun -Thurs) & 56 (Fri & Sat) so that would be 8 nights (28pts @$10 = $280 x 8 nights = $2240) plus 2 nights (56pts @ $10 = $560 x 2 nights = 1120) for a grand total of $3360????

Ok where the advantage? I am doing something wrong? Show me the money!
No, seriously,is my math wrong? I can't figure out how renting points would be cheaper? :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

The true value of DVC renting is renting Sunday and checking out on Friday. Disney more than doubles the required points on Friday and Saturday. If you just priced out a Sunday checkin and a Friday check out renting from a DVC at $11 would be $715 versus your cost of $1448 asavings of 50%. Now you see the true value. You need to work the system. Plus the DVC rooms are larger and much nicer than the regular rooms.

My guess is: you are trying to compare two completely different types of accommodations - a basic hotel room versus a 1 bedroom apartment with a full kitchen, multiple TV's and bath accommodations, etc....not an accurate comparison really.... :)

BC room versus BCV 1 bedroom for a difference of only $464 or average of $46.40/day? Once you stay in a 1 bedroom, you will know why the $464 is a small extra price to pay, especially with 5 people!
Have fun on your trip!
P.S. Bet you could easily save the $464 in food costs alone over 10 days by having drinks and eating breakfast and/or an occasional lunch in the room.

I would pay the extra $400+ to get the spaciousness and conveniences of a 1 bedroom vs a regular hotel room.

Warning: Once you stay in a 1 bedroom, you will not want a regular hotel room anymore, especially for an extended vacation.

If you need to do laundry while you're in that regular BC room, it'll cost you $2 for each load to wash and $2 for each load to dry, but you'll have to add more money to get them dry. Or you'll have damp clothes strung all around your room trying to get them fully dry. And you'll have to find the time to sit and watch your clothes and wait for the washer and dryer to be freed up. I like putting a load in the washer when we head to the park. When we get back, I throw them in the dryer and maybe add another small load in the washer. It sure beats coming home with suitcases full of dirty clothes.

You are comparing apples and oranges. BC's regular rooms are 2 queen beds, a little table, tiny bathroom. A one bedroom villa ia a full kitchen with microwave, dishwasher, disposal, full living room, master bedroom with a king sized bed, two TV's, a whirlpool tub, and a full bathroom that's nearly as large as your BC motel room. On top of that is your washer-dryer. That's not a bad trade for a total of $400 for 10 days. pixiedust:

Does the BC price include tax also? Usually tax is added on after the per night rate is given. With DVC there is no tax or extra charge for extra people, you get a full kitchen with a 1 BR and whirlpool tub in the bedroom besides a big bathroom, kitchen table, livingroom and TV in BR and Livingroom. I love having a washer/dryer right in the room. I never go home with a suitcase full of dirty clothes anymore. A regular hotel room is not comparable to a 1BR DVC room.
