Why people stay at Fort....to let brain rest from the Disney insanity.

Post below from another area, but thought it was funny. Good reason to stay at the Fort...a chance to unwind from the craziness....but I totally feel what is coming through here with all the rumored coming changes and test runs of things:

This is getting crazy-- first you buy a ticket for the park, then you buy a ticket for the park. Maybe they will some day offer a annual pass for the additional park hours. Then if you actually want an annual pass, you would have to buy two.... Maybe they will just sell hourly-- the first two hours of the day are at a reduced rate, since not everyone makes rope drop--- but hours from 11 to 2;45 are premium priced, although if you enter the park after the parades, you can get a mid level pricing, until about 6;27, when most dinners are finished---because then the price will drop to mid low, not to be confused with mid high during low demand season... or high mid high season low time slot. Please just tell me what you want to charge for us to get in the parks.

My last visit was much better and I seriously believe it was due to us taking 3 days of down time away from parks. Felt much more relaxed and enjoyable.

We usually don't go to the parks, but this time we got a great deal on Undercover tourist tickets with the Amex discount too. After this, though, it's going to be water parks only for the next few trips. We have plenty of fun at the Fort without spending $250 for one day and a night in MK!

We can only go every 4-5 years, (3000 miles RT) so I don't let that kind of stuff get to me. Our last trip we had the pleasure of being able to stay at the Fort for 16 days. Took every other day off from the parks. It was one of our best trips ever! We don't do commando. Don't over plan and don't do a lot of sit down meals. I guess some of my thoughts with all the complaining on the Theme parks boards, 1. if you don't want to spend the money on extra hours, don't go. 2. If you don't think the parties are worth it, don't buy a ticket, it's optional. 3. Open up your own theme park and show Disney how it's done. 4. I don't have to make a GRAND ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT NOT GOING! I plan all my trips, not just to Disney, we are headed to Grand Canyon this summer, (DW said she had to see Grand Canyon before I could go back to Disney) already have my Campground reservations and plans. When we first started going to Disney, we saved for 2 years to be able to afford it then, (think early 90's) stayed off site because we couldn't afford the fort. I think it was '98 we stayed at the Fort and was hooked. Have stayed there every time we go now. Planning a 2018 trip with DS and family and we already said we were staying at the Fort, no compromise on that! Is it expensive? Yes! Is it worth it? That has to be determined by each person and family. For us, Yes.

@rajak73 - I totally agree with you. I am not a big fan of price increases, and I know it gets challenging to "Plan" the trip to WDW. We don't do commando either. This year we are managing 2 trips (August and November). The November trip is a full laid out plan, but when we decided (after November trip was scheduled) that we wanted to do August, the DW said... No Planning, just relax and play it by ear... However, we now have a "Plan" (LOL, I love my DW, but I knew it would happen).

Anyway, we check the calendar of events. If we want a Full day in MK, we look to see if there is something else going on that would prevent that. We plan around things we don't want to do or plan for things we DO want to do. In the middle of it all we allow for spontaneity too.

It is a lot of money, but we do enjoy it. So we "Plan" for it. If it were cheaper, we could plan for it more frequently, but it is what it is and we make the best of it. Okay, maybe a little complaining and venting. After all nobody likes to pay more than they half to, right?

I don't like price increases anymore than anyone else, (I threatened to quit driving when gas got to $.75 a gallon, lol, you know how long ago that was) but like you it is what it is. If we thought it was too much, we wouldn't go. Dec. 2014, told DW we were going to see the Xmas decorations. Had some company come up from Miami, changed our plans some, had to cancel TSM FP and none were available, we've never rode TSM and I can't say as it has ruined any of our trips. DW says it's a good excuse to have to go back. I read the theme parks boards and people, "I won't wait over 15 min for a ride!" Heck, we wait 25 min to get out of a parking garage at a college Basketball game! We were on a bus in Feb 2012, and a couple across from us were discussing how packed the park was the day before, asked which park they were at? They said MK, well we were there too and since we had been with the kids in late May, early June before, MK was dead in Feb. LOL, told them "you've never been when the parks are busy have you" they said no, it was their first trip. I know there are going to be crowds, I've told my DS when we go in 2018, just don't figure you are going to be able to see everything, it's not going to happen! DW and I major planning for the days are, this day we go to MK, this day we go to Epcot, etc.

Now that I'm here at the Fort (and was I hesitant!) we've really slowed down this trip and had FUN! We did go to the fort (never before noon-ish) went on 2-3 rides/attractions, had a snack and left. Ate at the campground. So relaxing...

Last trip was 11 days long, 1 day driving there, 1 fort day, 6 days at Disney parks, 2 days at universal, 1 day driving home.

I wanted to buy tickets for our trip next year ahead of this years price increase, dh said "you can buy the tickets early BUT I want some more downtime to spend at the campground." So for next trip I'm planning a 12 day trip but only bought a 7 day Disney ticket and no universal tickets. DH is much happier (and I think the kids will be too)!

For us big draw of The Fort is laid back it is. Did AKL a few years ago for a week and all the wife wanted was to check out of there and into The Fort. Room was cramped (2 Queen sized beds dresser bureau and teeny table ) CM's and other guests very standoffish. At The Fort everyone a lot friendlier both CM's and other guests. Close enough to all the parks but still far enough away enjoy peace and quiet.
Her reaction the 1st she saw campground and cabin was " This is perfect I could almost live here."

That WAS the highlight of the whole trip. My oldest still talks about you. Seriously, next time you gotta bring Mrs. Scupper and I'll cook for you both.

We've only ever stayed at another Disney resort once and while it was lovely and clean and very Disney it just didn't compare to the relaxation of the Fort. When I vacation I want fun but I also want to get away from it all and when I camp I do that, camping at the Fort is just exponentially better. It's my happy place.
