I have a family of 5 mom, dad, ds 13, ds 10, ds 5. We are driving two days earlier the planned. Was wondering if we could get away with staying at a value resort in a standard room. Since it would be room only how would they know?all we would be doing is sleeping and swimming until time to check into POR and then parks.

You could stay in a family suite at All Star Music (or AoA, but it is more expensive). As for trying to sneak the 5th person, you could try it, but just know that if you are caught, you will be kicked off of the property and likely not be given your room at POR, either. You either pay to stay in a room that sleeps 5 on property or you stay offsite in a room that will hold you all. Just a heads up, ways to circumvent Disney policy is strictly prohibited on this forum. This thread may get deleted or closed.

there is just the 2 of us, but here is what we do when we drie down and get there early.

we stay at a motel in Kissimmee (but youcould stay at celebration or lots of places.)

the Rodeway Inn has a nice pool. not disney, but nice. 2 nights. you can eat at a Ponderosa or one of the many buffets.

there are tons of mini golfs and shops. tons of fast food places. or do a show (medievel times, etc)

we walked to Old Towne. there are rides, shops, places to eat or get a cocktail, go carts, etc.
spend the day by the pool. you really only have one day to kill (and you can still drive over to downtown disney and use the planet hollywood voucher, walk around, etc).

after the 2nd night, get up really early, and check in to POR at 8 am. even if your room is not ready, you're at DISNEY! eat breakfast at the food court. etc etc. (get a jump on anyone else as far as room requests go)

Oh my I don't want to get in any trouble. We have been thinking about staying 2 nights at the nickoloaden hotel. Then we will just get up early and check in at POR. Thanks

There are 2 double beds, the room is about 250 square feet. Disney decided 4 is the limit. Their hotel, their rules.

No worries! :goodvibes I noticed you are a fairly new poster and I just wanted to make sure you knew about the rules, so the thread didn't disappear on you without you knowing why. :goodvibes

There are additional reasons you would not want to sneak a 5th person into a room that sleeps only 4. The person not listed on the reservation would not get:

- Disney Magical Express
- Disney Dining Plan
- Extra Magic Hour privileges

*** please note this would apply to anyone else looking to do this. I know you aren't using DME because you are driving or Dining the night you are staying.

Go with the family suite at ASM. It technically sleeps 6 and should be sufficient room for your family. 2 beds in a room, a pull out sofa bed in the "living area," a kitchenette, and most importantly (to me), 2 bathrooms.

Honestly I don't know where you would put that extra person cause those rooms and beds are small. You could book a room only at POR and enjoy that pool, fishing , etc.

I think it has more to do with fire codes and regulations, rather than simply a 'Disney rule.'

This one. It is based on the width of corridors and the number of exits available to get all of the resort/hotel patrons to grade safely.

The reason they allow 3 plus an infant is because it is always assumed that one adult will carry the infant and they will not take up physical space in the corridors or the exits.

If you see places like POR in the AB section, it was most likely allowed after an exhaustive code search and calculations by the engineer, the local Fire Marshal agreed that they could safely do it, since there is only two floors and several stairwells.

Fire code also factors in but Disney does not have to allow up to the fire code, they can make it less. From what I've heard, they do make it less than fire code at most resorts. They base it on number of beds and sleeping spots. With 2 double beds, they can't advertise it as "sleeps 5".

Thanks for the info guys :) we booked a kid suite at the nick hotel. The kids are super excited!!!!

Just wanted to mention, that should you decide you wanted to visit the parks during those 2 pre check in days you can pickup your park tickets early and even add a day or two onto them - here's a link for how to pick them up early - it's @ the bottom of page 1 - post 15 subsection (I)

Because that's how many guests the rooms are approved for by the fire marshal. That's why you can't have five in your POP room. The POP rooms are also rather small and I can't really believe they were ever zoned for more than 4 occupants (excepting one baby).

Good job, smitch! Rules are rules - you are awesomely kind to explain & to keep others OUT of trouble. :thumbsup2
