LOL last year we had a musical christmas. Drum set, keyboard and electric bass. It joined our electric and accoustic guitars. I can relate...

Right now- in my living room next to the baby grand piano

Our backyard is under construction right now so putting them in the garage is not an option. The playroom is not big enough. The living room is the least used room in the house, so.....

Three Christmas' ago, younger DD got drums. They migrated upstairs to her room (bad idea, it's right above ours), downstairs to the playroom by the pooltable (another bad idea, right BELOW our room), and then to the attic. They left the house with some workmen that cleaned out the attic for us this summer. DH, on the other hand, bought a 2K set of Roland electronic drums this spring, they are now in the playroom, but can be used with headphones, much better! Now, if only they made clarinets with headphones................!

You can get dead ringers for the drums at your local music shop. They will deaden the sound considerably.

Yes, you can buy things to muffle the sound. However that kind of takes the fun away from having drums doesnt it?

I know several people who have done this. Basically hang a sort of "tent" of comforters all around the drumset. This works better in the basement probably than the living room but you can probably find a way to work it out. It really helps, and the drummer will probably like going into the "music room"

His drum instructor actually mentioned this to us. I will DEFINITELY look into this!
