Why Not Now? Reaching weight loss and fitness goals in 2016--All Welcome!

I'm not starting until Monday. My anniversary is this weekend and we just decided to make a weekend of it, including good food! Well, as good as I can get at Melting Pot and Pappasitos. This is it though--no more after this weekend! Until September. I can do it! We can do it!!

Great job on the grocery groove!

I will be 100% gluten free for life. Celiac disease is hard to diagnose, and I stopped before I had an official diagnosis and went gf, but I had several tests that indicated cd and that was good enough for me and my doctor. Being gf does not mean low carb. I eat way too many gf processed foods that have a ridiculous amount of carbs. But all of my weight is going in my stomach, and it HAS to stop before I have more problems than just high bp. :)

Momabaarjo--I am sorry you are fighting P-F too!!

I may try to save enough to go to Walgreen's lab and have it run. Its a fight to get Dr's to even try a test sometimes. And if they do its not always the full testing. I believe my maternal grandmother was Celiac. She was never diagnosed though but had Crohn's later in life so I always suspect it was more she had stomach issues her entire life. I've been close to a total elimination diet for myself. It's hard to tell if my tummy issues are meds or certain foods.

Oh boy! Count me in!:dogdance:

"Quick" background...41 years old, mother of 2 (ages 12 and 10), working full-time as a paramedic...
...peak (non-pregnant) weight was 188 pounds...slowly but surely dropped to an all-time (adult) low of 153 back in 2013, right before I ran the Wine and Dine 1/2 Marathon...
...slowly started swapping healthy eating for convenience foods and weight started creeping back:rolleyes1...
...diagnosed with a knee problem in July and have been out of running ever since:crutches:...
...didn't start any alternative exercise:yay:...

...and so here I am at 172.5 pounds:sad2:

I am returning to Disney World on October 15, 2016, the day before my 42nd birthday. My goal is to get down to 155 pounds, which for my height and build, is the lowest my doctor wants to see me go. (She said at 153 I was looking unhealthy and gaunt!)

My biggest obstacle is eating after I get home from work. I do a great job at work, packing a healthy lunch and not snacking at the gas stations and avoiding other goodies. The problem is that I get home from work and the family is ready for a "quick" dinner...which usually consists of a frozen pizza, macaroni and cheese, hot dogs or McDonald's. Of course, since I managed my eating all day, I am now starving and anything sounds good, so I binge on whatever we choose:cake:.

Goal #1: 10 minutes (minimum) of exercise every day...even if it just 10 minutes on our elliptical machine in the basement. I am really planning on going to the gym at least twice a week. My PT said I can start trying out some run/walk work, as long as it is more walk than run.
Goal #2: Faithfully enter my food intake into MyFitnessPal...I used to do this all the time, but had more than one "cheat" day and fell off the wagon.
Goal #3: No food after 7pm! I currently work 7a-7p, which is why I end up with those early-evening benders. On Jan 9, I will move to a 5a-5p shift. This means that I can (hopefully) get home in time to make a "real" dinner and not eat too late in the evening. I am also going to try and hit the gym after work on a few days, even if it is just for a nice, relaxing yoga class:worship:.

Well, there it is...I guess I am committed now! It's in writing for all to see:goodvibes.

Happy New Year! I would like to join the group. My name is Jeannie, I'm 50 years old and as of this morning I have 53.6 pounds to lose to meet my goal. I am running the glass slipper challenge in February. In addition to running I'll be using the 21 day fix eating plan and incorporating some of the workouts with my runs.

I look forward to supporting and being supported by my fellow Disney fans.

Somebody asked what your weight-loss plan is...well, I follow the "KISS" philosophy..."Keep It Simple, Stupid!":teeth:

Here's what I believe...

I will lose weight if I burn off more calories than I consume.:teacher:

That's it...simple. If I want to eat a 200-calorie candy bar for lunch, then fine...but I know it won't fill me up so instead, I eat 200 calories worth of lettuce, tomatoes, grilled chicken and a small piece of cheese. My go-to dessert choice? An 80-calorie Light n Fit Greek vanilla yogurt with a crumbled up 90-calorie Fiber One brownie in it! Delicious...and only 170 HEALTHY calories.

By looking purely at calories, my dietary habits changed considerably. I had better portion control (my food scale and I are in a relationship:love:) and I easily opted for foods that were lower in fat and sugar because they contained fewer calories. Powdered peanut butter was the best thing I ever found:D. I would eat Jif out of the jar, and at a whopping 100 calories per tablespoon, it added up fast. Now, I opt for powdered peanut butter (2 tbsp = 50 calories) with reduced-sugar strawberry jam (1 tbsp = 10 calories) on two slices of light multi-grain bread (2 slices = 70 calories). Voila! A PB&J sandwich with only 130 calories:banana:.

I've gotten very frustrated with myself because I know all of this, yet I have CHOSEN not to follow it and eat whatever I want. I have NO excuses and I know that I have done it before and I can do it again:thumbsup2. I just need to take it slow and one day/week/month at a time. I know that losing 20 pounds sounds like a huge undertaking, but I have enough time (10 months) to take it slow. I know that I may lose 5 pounds one week and then gain 4 pounds the next week, but I only need to average a net weight loss of 2 pounds per MONTH to make my goal. That's completely doable as long as I pay attention and stick with it. I am blessed with a healthy metabolism and no dietary restrictions so that does make it a little easier. Kudos to you guys who have to incorporate food allergies, diabetes and celiac disease into your plans. That is tough and makes it more difficult to "KISS".

Good luck to everyone here....Let's do this!party:

Well I face the scale this morning after a very long time. I haven't weighed myself in months. Well I was greeted with a much worse number than I even thought. Oh well it is what it is and I will just have to adjust my goal too. Rose change mine to 75lbs please :0 I have never been this heavy in my life! No wonder everything hurts. Going to go for a walk today outside. It is cold but sunny. Going to start off with a shorter walk and my other goal to start to meditate once a day.

What ever the number it is I hope to never see it again.
Good attitude!!

Happy anniversary!
We very rarely eat out, but one of my goals for this year is to get back to making better choices when I eat out, or at least practicing portion control. I used to be so good about ordering exactly what I wanted and then boxing up most of it as soon as they brought it so I wouldn't eat it all. :)
Enjoy your weekend!

Great to see you!
Meal planning might really help you. I saw someone on the news this morning who was showing how to freeze a ton of slow cooker meals. Really simple and you come home to a cooked dinner.
I truly believe meal planning is the key to success to so many aspects of life. :)

Welcome!! I have never done GSC, but I have run Princess 2x. Lots of fun!

Great post!
It really is simple in the big scheme--eat less calories than you need=weight loss. :)

Well I face the scale this morning after a very long time. I haven't weighed myself in months. Well I was greeted with a much worse number than I even thought. Hang in there. One pound at a time. I know this feeling, and have been there before. Don't let the number derail you, but rather work on healthy choices today and spend some time this weekend setting yourself up to be successful. :) You can do it!!

We got off to a good start this morning. Went to the small gym in our community and rode the stationary bike for 30 minutes.
I had my last coke last night--drank about a liter. And felt ILL. Just awful. Didn't even have a NYE cocktail. Woke up with a headache this morning.
The whole experience is making it much easier to say I am done with Coke for good. :)

Happy New Year's!

Sugar hangover! Good for you starting off early on a holiday at the gym. Happy New Year!

Hi everyone!

Just a quick drop in today! I like the idea of the 100 day challenge!

Today is back to real life! Back to eating correctly and going to the gym. Even giving yourself permission to be off plan doesn't make the sugar detox easier.

Remember, this is a process. Be kind to yourself!

Agh! My gym is closed today:sad:. I guess I will resign myself to the elliptical machine and maybe throw in some bench presses for good measure:yay:.

OK I caught up LOL First day of year and already 4 pages to read. I want to join in as well. This makes two threads I am following. Hopefully that will help keep me motivated. Even if motivation just last five minutes, that is five minutes I am being good LOL

So I am Jennifer and I am 47 YIKES!!! I have a 20 yr old son and a 6 year old daughter. I work full time as a night RN so my posts might be in the middle of the night. I also go to school part time with my son (shhhhh that's a secret) LOL we are each working towards a paralegal degree. 2015 was awful, if it could go wrong it did, so I am bound and determined to make 2016 a great year. I AM going to get healthier and learn to love myself doing so. I have quite a big chunk of me I want to lose, I am not ready to share how much yet. Too embarrassed. So my plan is to eat healthier, less dining out, and more real exercise. I currently walk at least 10,000 steps a day but that isn't doing anything for me. Like I mentioned in the beginning I need motivation. I wake up ready to tackle anything and then I get tired and motivation evaporates. So I am hoping that with MFP and the two DISboards I am following will give me enough to distract myself when the low times hit.

I haven't figured out the multipost thing so my responses to people might be individual and lots LOL

Happy New Year everyone! I'm in for the challenge. It's been so long since I've been on the DIS Boards. Rose, I saw your post in FB and decided this may be the group for me. I need to be held accountable and I need the support from others wanting and needing to lose weight and get healthier as well.

My name is Susie and my username is escape. I'm 58 years old and I weigh 210 lbs. *gasp! I would like to lose 60 pounds this year. I'll start off with losing 6 pounds in January. I'm not going to officially start until Monday, Jan. 4th. Too much going on this weekend to start but I will be more mindful of what I eat between now and Monday.

My motivation, in part, is to start feeling better, fit into more stylish clothes and to finish my foot races feeling decent instead of wanting to crawl into a hole and die (well, you probably know what I mean). I mainly want to feel better and look better or in other words - not look like a slouch that I feel like I've become.

I have several foot races coming up through April: Star Wars DL challenge, Little Rock 10K & Half, Star Wars WDW challenge and RussVegas Half (Arkansas). I predict a horrible run for Star Wars DL (just hope I can finish before the sweepers pounce on me). I hope to lose and improve by the time Star Wars WDW comes around in April. I could really use your help on keeping me motivated and going. In turn, I'll try my best to keep you going as well. Looking forward to doing this together!

For those of you with fitbits, PM me if you want to be a fitbit friend. For Rose, I highly recommend getting one!! Personally, I love the fitbit Zip. I prefer not to wear it on my wrist because I am afraid it will record more arm movements than leg movements! Whatever you get, you will love it. I got mine in October 2012 and I have done almost 15 MILLION step. It is really satisfying when you see your hard work add up. It helps me keep going!!

Hi Tim: I'll be doing my first Dopey with you! I did the Goofy last year -- I really wanted to do only the half but the half was full when I signed up and the only thing left was the Goofy. I survived it and decided to go for the whole thing this year! Then the whole thing will be complete when I do the Castaway Cay Challenge the next week! Best of luck to you. I was assigned Corral L but I may move back to M to be with my daughter. She needs me to be there to keep her motivated. Best of luck to you!

Lynda

Hey Lynda, I did Goofy back in 2012 I believe. This will be my last full marathon though. It just takes up way to much time to train for the full and I enjoy doing the half's better. Good luck!

A little late to the start but please count me in, Rose!! I'm Jude and (gulp) I turned 50 this year. And boy, did it affect my metabolism and where weight lands on my body. As in, just about everywhere now. Compounding my changing body/metabolism issues, the gym close to work closed last July and instead of running or lifting every day at lunch, I'm now just sitting at my desk. The friends I used to meet there really pushed me and now when I lift on my own I don't feel as if I'm really challenging myself. I'm not ready to state my weight but my goal is 4 lbs a month til I hit 140. Is that okay? I'm running my first (and last) marathon at WDW on January 10. My goals for the marathon: 1. Finish, 2. Finish upright, and 3. Don't crawl at any point. Seriously. My motivation? I want to feel comfortable. I don't right now. And I want to stop hiding behind other people in pictures, or stop avoiding the pictures all together. Time to take charge of me!!

Jude good luck next weekend. You'll do great and remember to just keep swimming. That's what I tell my self when it gets tough.

Happy New Year's Eve!!
What are you doing for fun today? :)

I hope everyone has a wonderful, happy, safe New Year's Eve. I will spend a huge chunk of the day worrying about my 24 yo who is driving to Atlanta in this awful rain. It is a soggy mess here!

***If you would like to change any of your numbers tomorrow let me know. Still debating if I want to use a weigh in from tomorrow as my official start. I am a little silly about numbers, charts, excel, etc. :)

I also wanted to thank you all for going on this journey with me.
Support + Hard Work + Commitment = Success :)

Rose
My weight loss goal for January is 15 lbs.

Thanks

Jennifer you'll do great. You will get all the support you need from this group. Good luck on your goals.

I ran 3 miles today (whoo hoo!) and have not yet eaten everything I get to stuff in those little colorful boxes for the 21 day fix. I tracked over 12,000 steps on my fitbit. Overall...a great day!
I forgot to set my January goal....I would like to be 10 pounds down to get the ball rolling.

I am proud of myself today:teeth:.

I stayed under my calorie goal and I squeezed in my 10 minutes on the elliptical:cheer2:.

I ate a HUGE dinner and I'm not going to have any late-night cravings tonight. I cooked up a double-cheeseburger made with 7.5 oz of venison, tomato, 2% American cheese and light mayonnaise on a 160-calorie bun (545 calories total). I had a serving of reduced-fat Pringles on the side (140 calories). The total calorie count was about 730, but with a 1580 calorie goal, I had room to splurge. My breakfast was a bacon, egg and cheese Eggo waffle sandwich (240 calories). Lunch was on the go and included a Zone Perfect Dark Chocolate Pecan bad (190 calories) and one cup of Special K Cinnamon Pecan cereal (147 calories...no milk). I had a few snacks too...a serving of sliced apples with caramel dip (70 calories, pre-packaged), a cup of Yoplait Greek whipped vanilla yogurt (100 calories) and, yes, some mint M&M's (210 calories). I kept my 24-oz water bottle with me all day and I have drank it empty twice, so 6 cups so far. I will probably down another bottle before bed.

I'm hoping to have the motivation to go to the gym tomorrow. The kids have activities from 2-4 so I may be able to squeeze in an hour.

Stay tuned...
