Why Not Just Queue Up Another Disney Trip? Link to New TR 6/24 p136!

What a nightmare, MaryEllen. I'm so sorry...I know you were looking forward to the entire family joining. Sometimes family is totallly impossible (I've not talked to my brother since a year ago February and I don't see it happening any time soon...not even with my son getting married).

I'm glad your SIL and the three younger ones are coming.

When did your brother become my Ex??? :rotfl2: I think I have heard some of the same things out of my exs mouth. :sad2:

So sorry he is not going to go and I know that in itself is rough. I hope it works out somewhat and things improve.

Oh Mary Ellen, I'm so sorry to hear about what you are going through. It's unfortunate when people harshly judge a place they've never been. You know and we all know that you were just trying to be nice and do something good for your family. I'm sorry it's not working out. I know you'll have a great trip once you can put this behind you a bit.

That's it - I have to get this all behind me. It's still somewhat unresolved and its really messing with me now. In fact, I haven't even felt like DISing which is SO not like me.

Thanks for the support!

I am so sorry, Mary Ellen! It's a shame that trying to do something nice for your family has turned into what it has...

I never thought it would get this out of hand. It's really starting to mess with me and I just want it resolved. Denny told me that families have to plan their own vacation and now I know he's right.

I can't help but ask how a person can be a liberal democrat AND materialistic? Those two don't seem to go together. ;)

I'm not exactly sure if materialistic is the word he used, but he definitely called me a liberal democrat! :confused3

I'm sorry to read about your troubles in trying to orchestrate a nice vacation for your extended family. What's the saying? "No good deed goes unpunished"? Well, hang in there. It's funny how so many people who've never been to Disney have it all figured out.

I feel like this a good deed I should have kept to myself.

The funny thing is I remember thinking negative things about Disney before my first trip. I thought it would be crowded, chaotic, and just a generally unpleasant experience. I found out I was SO wrong. So, in a way, I understand where my brother is coming from. But I don't ever remember being that negative.

I'm sorry, Mary Ellen. Family drama is just not fun at all. I hope you can still enjoy the trip and smooth things over someday. :goodvibes

I am sure I will enjoy the trip once everything is settled. But I am going to have to dig deep to to smooth things over. I can do it....eventually!

 Sorry this is turning into a nightmare! We have cut back on the amount of time we spend with family on our Florida trips over the years... they used to come to Disney with us, then we decided to just go see them first, then this year we decided to skip seeing them all together! I got a text from my SIL asking our dates... I figured they might be trying to come to Disney while we are there and got a little excited. Then she told me she wanted to know how she could get cheap tickets for when her son & granddaughter come to visit the week before us. She's texting me yesterday to find out about cheap tickets starting tomorrow! Oy! Family!

Oy family is right! :rotfl: It's funny how things like this can turn into a nightmare. I actually think my SIL feels bad about it because I think she would like to have it resolved and I think she knows its a great opportunity. Hopefully I will know soon how it all falls out.

 I'm sorry that you are having to deal with such nasty drama! My brother doesn't "get" the Disney love either, but he knows better than to throw mud. He'd be eating it!
BTW - I'm pretty far from a liberal democrat, (and I have seen plenty of them that actually are materialistic), and I am a touch materialistic, but we Disney lovers come from all corners, don't we?

:rotfl2: Eating mud! I love that! :rotfl2:

I love that Disney transcends politics. I really don't care what anybody's political preference is. In fact, Disney if as far away from politics as you can get. And that's a good thing!

:Try not to feel bad, we're here to listen and we'll try not to hold it against your brother, but we will defend our fellow DISers!!!

I hope that things improve and somehow they will enjoy the trip.

Thanks! I really do appreciate everyone's positive comments. It really does help take the sting out of this situation.

Yes - we DISers MUST stick together! :thumbsup2

Ughhh what a nightmare! I'm so sorry you are having to deal with this!! All you wanted to do was take your family on a special vacation!!! I'm sure your SIL and her boys will still have a great time with you guys!!

Yup - I knew I couldn't take just two of the boys so I thought it was best to invite the whole family. I probably should have just invited the two oldest. Oh well. I did try to do something nice and it got all turned around.

Mary Ellen so sorry to hear about your additional trip planning issues. I truly hope your SIL does fly down and let at least 3 of the kids enjoy Disney. :)

Rebecca

I hope so too. I just won't believe this is settled until I see the final plans and they have not be forthcoming. :sad2:

Thanks Pam!

Ugh - Kathy that is terrible. I really hope it doesn't come to that. I don't think it will, but I know I don't feel like talking to him right now!

I'm glad your SIL and the three younger ones are coming.

Well, I just checked my email and there are some NEW developments! Stay tuned!

When did your brother become my Ex??? :rotfl2: I think I have heard some of the same things out of my exs mouth. :sad2:
:rotfl2: Oh Lord! No wonder you got divorced. Say NO MORE! :rotfl2:

So sorry he is not going to go and I know that in itself is rough. I hope it works out somewhat and things improve.

It is rough, but there are some very new hot off the press developments!

Thanks Brook! ARe you home? How was DC? In addition to not being on the DIS I also haven't been on FB in days.

It really has been some drama with the family, but I honestly think it's all getting worked out, so stay tuned!!!!

The American Adventure

Sorry it has been two weeks since I've done a real update. Ever since Denny and I hit Williamsburg I just have been able to catch up. It doesn't help that I am really busy at work right now and can't even check my email let alone the DIS boards.

I really wanted to make this a "good" update with picture narration, but its not going to happen. So let me pick up where I left off - at the American Adventure!

Entering the theatre

IMG_1915.jpg

Mark Twain:
Dr. Franklin, as our genuine American antique, I suppose our story begins with you.

Ben Franklin:
Actually it started long before even my time.
It started when dreams and visions of a new world were shrouded in the myths and legends of an old world.

Ben Franklin:
Finally through those early mists of uncertainty sailed the first great adventurers.
This tiny ship is the Mayflower.

IMG_1918.jpg

IMG_1919.jpg

IMG_1920.jpg

Ben Franklin:
Carrying pilgrims in search of their dream, a dream of religious freedom.

Ben Franklin:
So if you'll pardon an old man's pride, for me, this is the beginning of the American Adventure.
IMG_1921.jpg

Ben Franklin:
In the decades that followed, a new challenge began to emerge.
We were growing more and more apart from the mother country.
Passion began to govern and she never governs wisely.

IMG_1922.jpg

Thomas Jefferson:
Those are new drafts all over the floor Dr. Franklin.
It seems that one stroke of this pen, brings two changes from Congress.
I told you John Adams should have written this.

IMG_1923.jpg

Ben Franklin:
First we spoke out with our voices, then we spoke out with action, with a growing defiance, that led to the Boston Tea Party.

IMG_1926.jpg

Male Singer:
In the days of '76, my boys,
we never must revere
That every man takes his musket up
and fight for freedom dear.
We'll hit the flanks
Of the Redcoats' ranks
as Yankee volunteers.

Oh, tis a great delight
to march and fight,
But it's getting tough, I fear...

IMG_1924.jpg

IMG_1925.jpg

IMG_1927.jpg

Mark Twain:
Well, I like to think that Mark Twain was part of all that.

Yes sir, Dr. Franklin, you founding fathers gave us a pretty good start, don't ya know.
We still had some things to learn the hard way.
It seems a whole bunch of folks found out "We the people", didn't yet mean all the people.
Folks like Frederick Douglas.

Frederick Douglas:
Even amidst the cricket song here along Mark Twain's beloved Mississippi, I hear the noise of chains and the crack of the whip.
Yet there's hope.
Hope born from the words of Harriet Beacher Stowe.
Uncle Tom's Cabin has given our nation a key, which can unlock the slave prison to millions.
Anti-Slavery is no longer a thing to be prevented.
It has grown too abundant to be snuffed out, like a lantern.

IMG_1928.jpg

Brother:
Trouble makers like Douglas got us into this mess.

Brother #2:
We only wanted freedom, not war.

Brother:
Well listen to my abolitionist brother.
Pa, he's gonna make a real good Billy Yank.

Brother #2:
We got a good cause, Johnny Reb.

Father:
Quiet, both of ya!
You're going to ruin Ma's birthday!

Mother:
No, no, ain't nothing gonna ruin today.
We are all together, that's what counts.

IMG_1929.jpg

Chief Joseph:
Enough!
Enough of your words!
Let your new dawn lead to the final sunset on my people's suffering.
When I think of our condition, my heart is heavy.
I see men of my own race treated as outlaws or shot down like animals.
I hope that all of us may be brothers with one country around us and one government for all.
From where the sun now stands, I will fight no more.
Forever...

IMG_1930.jpg

Mark Twain:
The wisdom of the Great Chief Joseph, reminded us once again of our long painful journey through the frontiers of human liberty.

Susan B. Anthony:
Woman has shown equal devotion with man to the cause of freedom.
Together, they have made this country what it is.
We ask justice, we ask equality, be guaranteed to us and our daughters forever.

Mark Twain:
Well here we are, back in the heat of Franklin's Philadelphia again.
We are a hundred years old today.
We came a long way in that first century.
Like Susan B. Anthony, we're still speakin' out.

IMG_1931.jpg

IMG_1932.jpg

IMG_1933.jpg

Mark Twain:
Yes, sir.
We soared into the 20th century on the wings of invention, and the winds of change.
But our "America, the Beautiful," she was changing too. We needed people like Teddy Roosevelt, and an outspoken naturalist, John Muir, to get our attention.

Teddy Roosevelt:
Beautiful!
Fully beautiful!
Those falls are magnificent!

John Muir:
Aye, Mr. President, but it won't last if the timber thieves have their way.

IMG_1935.jpg

Newsman:
More than 33 grueling non-stop hours after his departure from New York, Captain Charles Augustus Lindbergh successfully landed his Spirit of St. Louis in Paris last week.
Lucky Lindy's solo flight across the Atlantic has certainly placed him among the greatest in a long line of American pioneers.

Newsman #2:
Today, Oct. 29, 1929, Wall Street became America's greatest wall of rubble.
This stock market crash has tarnished the golden dreams of millions.

Rocker:
Ain't many folks will pay no 18 cents a gallon! (love this line :rotfl:)

IMG_1936.jpg

Radio Announcer:
Yesterday, December 7th, 1941, a date which will live in infamy, the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and ground forces...

IMG_1938.jpg

John F. Kennedy:
And so my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.
My fellow citizens of the world, ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.

IMG_1940.jpg

Apollo 11 Radio:
Three feet down, two-and-a-half, kicking up some dust, four forward, four forward, drifting to the right a little, contact light, okay, engine stop.

Ground Control:
We copy you down Eagle.

Apollo 11 Radio:
Tranquility Base here, the Eagle has landed.

During this part of the presentation we hear

Male Singer:
America, spread your golden wings
Sail on freedom's wind, across the sky.
Great bird, with your golden dreams
flying high, flying high.

Female Singer:
Restless one in a world of change,
keeping dreams aloft in the rain.
Spirit free, soaring through the clouds
of time, of time.

Male Singer:
America, you must keep dreaming now
Dreaming the promised vow of your pioneers
America, keep on flying now.
Keep your spirit free.
Facing new frontiers.

IMG_1946.jpg

IMG_1947.jpg

Female Singer:
Spirit free, you must keep flying now,
Reaching to touch the sky
on the winds of change.
Oh restless one, search for brighter days,
Soaring through stormy skies
With our head held high.

Both:
America, spread your golden wings
Sail on freedom's wind across the sky.
Great bird with your golden dreams,
Flying high, flying high,
Flying high, flying high!

Time to leave the theatre

Flying High......FLYING HIGH!!!!!!!!!

I love this presentation. Bravo.

IMG_1945.jpg

If you haven't seen the American Adventure - DO IT!

Keeping with the American theme I took a few more pictures right outside the theatre

IMG_1963.jpg

Wow - just looking at Santa and Mrs. Claus's empty seats makes me want to run right up there and sit!

Our Next Stop

Up Next.....BONSAI!!!!!!!!

And for the Never Ending Saga.............

There is an update regarding the June trip.

My SIL emailed me the receipt from their .....................

TRAIN RESERVATIONS! :faint:

Yup - that's right. The latest is that all 6 of them are taking the auto train down and back. My SIL got a much better price calling then the one I got on line. The got a great deal on the sleeper car for the way down, but there are only coach seats left for the way back.

Still - all 6 of them are going. That means my Disney-hater brother is going too.

They have the reservation on hold now. They have not paid for it (have until the 17th). But I think they are going for real and I am considering sending Nick back with them on the train. Then he will get a ride straight to our house.

So let the final planning begin! :cool1: I'll keep you posted!

Love the pictures of the American Adventure. It is a great show. And I'm glad to hear that things are resolving themselves for your June trip. :goodvibes

I LOVE the American Adventure and we try very hard to do it every year.

I am so glad that the family is going ... even your Disney hating brother. :lmao::lmao::lmao: Seriously, I hope he apologizes to you and that the trip is a great one. Can't wait to hear the plans.

Wowee! First of all, did you KNOW all that dialogue from the AA??? I would like to see it again. I think I saw it one of my first visits, and then in July 2010. It's a great show.

Second - Well, that saga just keeps going, huh? I guess if I were you, I'd just keep expecting those curve balls and stand still in the batter's box. (It's baseball season now you know!!) I sure hope it all works out. I'd also not expect much from your brother. Maybe he'll just sit in the room and pout, but at least the rest of the family can enjoy themselves.

Question! - those of you who have gone in October might be able to help me. We want to eat dinner at Ohana and go to the beach at Poly to watch fireworks. If it's a MNSSHP night, will they still pipe in the music for Hallowishes? I hope someone around here knows. Thanks!!!

Was that whole American Adventure script from memory????? :worship: Okay. I'll admit it. I haven't actually seen the American Adventure yet. Or heard Voices of Liberty.

:duck:

I PROMISE I will though!! It really sounds spectacular!

I'm glad that things are finally starting to get resolved with your family trip! :thumbsup2

I saw American Adventure, unfortunately history bores me (even my own country's history, I don't discriminate :rotfl:) so I couldn't really enjoy it, but I will admit that it's very well done. Great pictures and commentary by the way!
Santa and Mrs. Claus' chairs are so pretty!
Glad your brother is coming along, even if it is by train! I'm sure he won't be a Disney hater once he's there, I think most people change their tune once they're in the parks. Maybe he was just acting out because he was anxious and everyone wanted to go without him? Regardless, I am glad things are slowly working out and I'm sure you will all have a great time!

Beautiful update! I absolutely love the American Adventure and I cry every single time (heck I tear up when the song is played while I'm on hold with Disney )

I'm glad things are moving in the right direction for your family trip! :)
