Why not fitted sheets?

Just a curiosity question, why does DVC not use fitted sheets on their beds? Are flat sheets cheaper? Personally, for me, I do not like trying to make a bed with flat sheets. The sheets never seem to be large enough to adequately cover and be tucked under the bottom mattress. By morning, regardless of whether housekeeping or I have made the bed, the sheets are all awry.

By the way, I do have fitted sheets in our Owner’s Locker to use during our “home away from home” visits.

Disclaimer: I do not know for sure, these are only my assumptions.

By having both fitted and flat sheets, the housekeeping employees would have to ensure that they had enough of both with them for the day. By having only flat sheets, they won't find they need more fitted sheets than they originally had. Just easier all around to have one kind of sheet?

And...folding fitted sheets is a total PITA. Mine look horrible. They take up more space and always are messy looking and they don't stack well.

Since WDW has folding machines, I would also wager that the fitted sheets don't work in the machine?

Hotels generally don't use fitted sheets. It makes for easier cleaning and inventory. You don't have to make sure the housekeeper has a top and bottom for each room, he/she just has to pick up 2 sheets per room. Plus when sheets are destroyed it doesn't matter.. you just replace one type...

It's also much easier for the commerical laundry machines to do these. (If you ever see these things it's kind of amazing... after the sheets come out of the dryer they go through the "press"... it just takes the ENTIRE sheet in one giant rolling press.)

Did that tour also and agree that fitted sheets wouldn't do well in those machines. It was an amazing process to watch.

Fitted sheets would be much nicer but honestly it has never been a problem for us. I can understand the reasoning behind using "1 size fits all" after reading this thread.

It is called the Backstage Magic tour. When we took it, it was 7 hours long and began at Epcot. We walked behind the attractions (amazing how close they really are together). We went behind stage at the American Adventure.

We went to DHS (MGM at the time) and went into one of the workshops where they build props, we then visited one of the wardrobe facilities--AMAZING to see so many pieces of clothing and how organized it all is!

Our next stop was at the Wilderness Lodge for lunch at the Whispering Canyon (lunch was included in the tour price). Then we visited the laundry facilities behind Magic Kingdom. Then we went into the utilidors underneath Magic Kingdom and came out from a backstage access point near The Plaza Restaurant to watch the afternoon parade.

I'm sure I have forgotten a bunch of things we saw, but it was amazing to take this tour. DH and I had a visit to the world without kids one summer and decided to take a few tours. They drove us around in one of the coach buses.

I highly recommend this tour. It looks like it has changed a bit, but in all, it is pretty cool.

A few more things: We visited the warehouse where all of the Christmas decorations are. They work year-round on those! We also saw the new fabric they were deciding on for Cinderella's dress since they could no longer get the original blue they had been using.

Sounds like you've found the right solution -- "bring" your own.

In high school I spent a year working as an orderly at a clinic where I learned all about "Hospital Corners". If the sheet is large enough to do it, I highly recommend the technique.

I've never stayed in a hotel that had fitted bottom sheets.
I can understand it.

FYI.........in Jan. Backstage Magic did not include the laundry. I was disappointed. I did see it a few years ago when it was included in BM.

The CM's that work the laundry are timed and fitted sheets would slow them down.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates their bed making techniques! I too always tear the beds apart and remake them with proper hospital corners and don't tuck everything in together. The reason the beds get so messed up is because they tuck the bottom, top and blankets in all at the same time. Plus, they always leave that bottom sheet just short of the bottom of the bed. If you happen to be tall, your feet hook that bottom edge of the bottom sheet if you don't remake the bed.

This, exactly. The sheets always come off for me and I end up remaking them eventually.
