Why no music on Space Mountain?

When we were on Space Mountain at Disneyland the ride had awesome music that added to the thrill of the ride. Does anyone know why Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom does not have music?

I bought the soundtrack when we were at Disneyland with the music on it - so I know I didn't imagine it!

I rode Space Mountain at Disneyland for the first time, and then went about two years later to Disney World, and rode it there.

When I got off, I told the CM, "The sound isn't working," and she looked at me like I had three heads. I thought she just didn't hear me, so I repeated myself, "There's no music playing in that car." She just nodded, like ok, thank you now go away you insane tourist.

They added it in DL several years after it was built, and have had problems with the extra weight, perhaps one of the reasons the track has been completely rebuilt with new vehicles (and plans for a different soundtrack at night). Even befor eth music, I've always preferred the one at DL.

I keep hoping that whenever they do a rehab of MK's SM that they would add the music. The first time DW and I rode it at DL it surprised us but it really added to the ride. I'll be curious if after the DL rehab if the music is still there or if they remove it.

The music will still be there, although not necessarily the same music. There are plans to have a seperate soundtrack at night when it will be called Rockit Mountain. The sign is up, and the ability to have the other name is built into the sign. Plans as reported by www.miceage.com is to implement the new version as part of a publicity push when they add random drops to the ToT unless attendence lags this summer, then it could be done earlier.

I too wish that they would add the music.......(I grew up with DL), make it a bit darker in there and have the two by two seating.....I like sitting with someone on a roller coaster....
