Why No Eastern Caribbean Cruises During Summer??

I am brand new to researching cruises but I went to the Disney site and tried to plug in dates I was interested in to check prices. I chose a seven day Eastern Caribbean cruise because I am in NY so in the east, and I figured it would be cheaper that way. But according to the months to chose from, the cruise is NOT offered in May, June, July, or August. A real problem for people with kids in school...

Am I just doing something wrong?? IS this particular cruise offered in the summer? Is a seven day Eastern Caribbean cruise what you would suggest for someone wanting seven days, living in NY and wanting it to be as cheap as possible? Thanks!

Well I do see four night Bahama cruises take place in the summer, but I was hoping for seven night....

Also, what are the different 'cateogories'. Based on pricing it looks like the lower numbers are better than higher numbers?? Where can I find out what all the different descriptions mean and what the categories mean and what a verandah is exactly, etc.?

The two ships have different itinerary types assigned to them.

The Wonder typically does 3 and 4 day Bahamas trips, with a few select special itinerary ( 10 day Carribean holiday, etc ) trips thrown in.

The Magic typically does the 7 day eastern / western cruises, with their specials being the West Coast / Mexican in 2005 and the Mediterranean 10 / 11 day cruises in 2007, along with the associated repos.

When the Magic is out playing the only ship left in the Bahamas is the Wonder - and the 3 / 4 day trips are the staple of the Land and Sea packages ( those are the first "dose", sp it is their best interest to keep them coming ), so no 7 day Carribeans in 2007.

As far as the categories go, the higher the number, the lower in the ship ( sometimes more comfortable in rough weather), the smaller the cabins ( cabins are pretty good size compared to other vessels ), the fewer the perks ( verandas, windows ) and the lower the cost.

The concierge levels 1,2 and three are all on deck 8 and have at a minimum, twice the veranda and cabin size, concierge service, ability to order from the main dining room menius, etc.

They are VERY hard to come by, you can do a search on the forum and see lots of comments about obtaining them, but they do make for a very special experience, but I think that the trips themselves have most of the magic built in, regardless of the stateroom category.

If we weren't addicted we wouldn't be here....

Also currently, both ships are based at Port Canaveral Florida (except when the Magic is in the Med next summer) so if you are flying, it shouldn't make any difference if you are from the East Coast or the West Coast (or another country for that matter :thumbsup2 ). If you are flying - you will fly in and out of Orlando or Sanford depending on your airline. :sunny:

The Eastern Caribbean is not east coast based ... it cruises the eastern side of the Caribbean, leaving out of Port Canaveral, Florida.

The Western Caribbean also leaves out of Port Canaveral, Florida, but cruises the western side of the Caribbean.

Cruising around the main DCL page on this site will give you information and photos...probably even better info than you can get on the DCl web site.

Put in a call do DCL and they will send you a free trip planning DVD. Also the PassPorter travel guide for Disney Cruises is a great book. Most of the big bookstores carry it, or you can get it from Amazon or directly from them at www.passporter.com/dcl I HIGHLY recommend this book. ::yes::
