Why, My Little Guppy Has Groupies! - A Dec. 2013 TR *Completed

And I love your backstory about wanting to take your own child someday. I'm glad that everything fell into place and you and Alex were able to take Landon to see the lights.

It took a lot of luck to be able to take Landon in December, mostly due to the fact that he was old enough. I didn't want to take him before he was 6 months nor during the summer, so it just happened to work out well.

I'm stealing this idea!!!!! You're so right about that. We have always gone to see the lights come on, so we get there early, have plenty of room to maneuver... and it actually is kind of nice having the stroller then so the kids can sit in the stroller and have a snack while we wait, but getting out is a nightmare! I think we'll stop by stroller parking before heading there next time. I've actually never even considered that possibility! :rotfl2:

Now, I don't have multiple kids, and Landon was still young enough to be carried, so I don't know how well it'll work for you. But I found it to be easier, if only for the fact that it saved me from getting angry and backed up in foot traffic. I was afraid I'd start ramming people's ankles if I had to push that thing around. Sort of like after fireworks anger....:rolleyes2

Did you find the cat?

No!
I'm actually terrible at locating the cat. I couldn't do it last year, either.:confused3

Sometimes... Poor guy just doesn't get the respect he deserves. :rolleyes1 :lmao:

:rolleyes2
I think I'm quite nice to him in my reports.
I'm a lot worse when I'm talking about situations to people I know.:rotfl2:

That is great! This is what it is all about. :thumbsup2

It definitely was the epitome of that "perfect Disney experience."

HI Im new but im here :) I am having a great time reading your TR! I just love your little one he is ADORABLE! I am going to be in WDW from May 11-16. If I see that little one in those glasses you better bet I'm coming up to say hi!! :) Can't wait to read more!

Hi, and welcome to the boards!
Thanks for reading my trip report! Definitely say hello if you spot us in the parks. I love DISmeets, and Landon loves people so it's a win-win!:rotfl2:

Here's a quick update before the weekend. I apologize in advance if I have fallen behind on your trip report. Landon's birthday is this Monday, so I have been keeping pretty busy this past week. If everything works out, I should have some free time again next weekend, and I promise to go back and get current on all your updates!

Wednesday, December 4th, 2014:

As was his habit, Landon woke up several times throughout the night, keeping his parents from getting any decent amount of sleep. I remember this morning was especially brutal. The kid figured 5:30 am was the perfect time to wake up for the day.

So, I kept up the pattern of going over to my mom's room and hung out with her while Landon played with his toys on the floor. I really enjoyed spending that time with my mother, but I wasnt liking it so much that I would have been sad if Landon let me sleep through them.

My mom agreed to watch him while I went back to my room and woke up Alex. The two of us got ready, and when we returned to my mother, we discovered she had found something to keep the baby entertained.

What do you know?

01.jpg

It was that baby in the mirror. He decided to tag along for the Disney trip, too.

Landon sure did appreciate seeing that handsome guy in such an unfamiliar place. It made his day.

:rotfl2:

And naturally, all that visitation time, mixed in with grandma hugs plum wore him out.

02.jpg

Asleep before we made it to the car.

Man, it's a good thing he can grab a good catnap whenever he needs one. After all, beating the sun up can sure cause one to be pretty tired...

:rolleyes2

My group loaded into our car and drove to our first destination of the day.
When we parked the car, Landon was still asleep, and so I bundled him in my carrier. We figured if he was going to sleep through the two-time carseat transfer, we might as well let him get a really good nap in.

Of course, I only made it to the bag check before my mom looked over at me and saw 2 little eyes staring up at her.

03.jpg

I think the best part about that picture is the fact that to my right, Alex seems to be our pack mule. He's got both the stroller and P.I.T.A. flung over his shoulders.

He does come in handy...

:lmao:

With Landon awake already, I was beginning to get the feeling that every plan I formed that day was going to be directly contradicted by the baby. Those times happen, and I knew I would just need to go with the flow and let whatever happened, happen.

In case you aren't an expert on bag check lines, the park we were visiting that morning was:
Disney's Hollywood Studios.

You know, the park we'd just left not 12 hours earlier...

We were there right when it first opened, seeing all the shops fresh and welcoming the first patrons of the day.

04.jpg

And, of course, there was that hat, looking not so spectacular in the sunlight.

Alex and I had gotten to ride all the coasters we wanted to the evening before, and we weren't planning on returning again to see the Osborne Lights, which meant there was only one thing left on our To Do List for that park.

It caused us to follow the masses to Toy Story Midway Mania.

And while all of us would have loved to have gotten in standby for that attraction, the crowds that morning at Hollywood Studios were insane. I'd never seen so many people in that park first thing in the morning before. I can't say it was the worst crowds we encountered, but it was definitely up there.

When we reached the entrance for TSMM, it was 6 minutes after park opening, the line for Fastpasses reached past One Man's Dream, and the standby line was:

75 minutes.

Thanks, but no thanks.

Too long for me.

The one ride we did yesterday would have to be enough; I couldn't afford to have us wait in either an hour long standby or a half an hour FP line to get passes for a time when we might not even be in the parks.
It would have been a nice thing to do, especially since my mom didn't get a real chance to play, but that was all right.

She wasn't too sad, since we were about to do the one thing she requested before the trip.

Her favorite moment had come due, and I was looking forward to seeing her so happy.

With no rides in the books and a baby in tow, the only thing left for us were the popular character meets. My mom had her wish list, and Alex had his (I'll admit, I had none. Shame on me.) and we all had the time and patience to knock them out.

First up, was the meet and greet right across from TSMM.

Woody and Buzz!

Or Buzz and Woody, whichever you prefer. I've heard it both ways.

My mom's favorite Disney film is Toy Story, and to this day she still talks very enthusiastically about the time she made my family wait in line for an hour to see them. That was back in the 90's, and an hour was a long time to keep a 12 year old, a 7 year old, and a 2 year old entertained. Not to mention it was the dead of summer, and we were all dying from the Florida heat.

You wouldn't know that we were all grumpy and impatient and hot from the way my mom talks about it, though. All you'd be able to tell was that the characters were worth the wait and completely awesome to meet in person.

And then you'd look at the pictures and get a good laugh in.
I wish I'd remembered to scan them before this update. Basically, you've got 3 kids glowering at the photographer, a father who's clearly thinking, "Can I leave now and go relax in my hotel room with a nice cold beer," and then there's the mother, smiling enough for all 5 of them.

Those are those Disney moments you look back on and laugh.

Anyways, my mom was very excited to meet back up with her two favorite guys. It had been years. A lot had happened since their last conversation. Her kids had grown up, Woody had met Jessie, Buzz found out who his father was...

:rotfl:

A reunion was necessary.

This line, while not 75 minutes, was still pretty long, and I began to worry Landon would get restless.

Thankfully, we made it to the inside queue area relatively quickly and there was plenty of things for him to stand by and look at.

Thank you, Disney for your interactive queues.
Has there been a better idea?

Every time I have to wait with Landon I doubt that there has been.

06.jpg

Ooooh!

Landon was really interested in all the aliens and their multiple eyes. Unfortunately, there was a kid behind us who wasn't understanding the whole wait your turn bit. He was about 3 or 4 years old, and his mother would just let him cut in front of Landon at every turn.

I get that he was a baby and wasn't really doing much, but it did irritate me that they wouldn't give Landon 30 seconds at each location. The joys of other people's kids, I suppose.

In addition to him constantly cutting Landon off, he also ran EVERYWHERE. The mom just kept telling people, "He's a runner."

Near the end, he even ran around the corner and interrupted another family's time with the characters.

Yikes.

I put Landon in prison:
07.jpg

Then decided to call it quits on the photo spots. I was too tired to passive aggressively fight that family for our spot.
I'll save that battle for down the road when Landon's older. Something to look forward to..

For the most part, Landon handled the waiting around well enough.
08.jpg

There was a time or two when he became squirmy and impatient, but I don't think that will compare to anything he'll put us through on our next trip. I seriously doubt we could have done that meet and greet if he was the 13 months he'll be in May. Landon just wants to be doing something at all times. So I better count my blessing he was so easy to handle on this trip.

My mom and I spent most of the time talking about Disney trips we could take in the far, far off future. I think that conversation she had with the grandmother the day before really inspired her, because she threw around the concept of taking a massive family vacation 10 or 15 years from now. She thought it would be a cool idea to have Landon and his cousin Aiden (who's only about 10 months younger than him) hang out and visit while in the parks while all the parents and grandparents spend time together.

My mom planted the seed, so now I'm expecting a grand gathering when the time's right.

(Now THAT would be an interesting trip report to write. If you guys thought I was the oddball in my family, you should see my brothers.)

Our turn with Pixar's main men had finally arrived, and we all rounded the corner and entered Andy's room.

I felt a little ridiculous, seeing as I was an adult, but I got a little nervous and shy. Woody and Buzz were so tall and grandiose, I couldn't help but think, "Oh wow, I'm meeting a Disney celebrity here."

I felt silly for myself, but then I realized that I was just experiencing the Disney touch at its best. They managed to get sensible, adult Alicia to feel giddy.

Guess that's how my mom felt all those years ago.

And I've got to say, for our first non-meal character meet, these guys were the best. We had some amazing character interaction throughout the week. I mean, some of them were simply over the top special, and this one was up there in terms of how phenomenal the characters were.

Despite the long line behind us, Woody and Buzz took their time with each of us, and the Photopass Photgraphers actually stopped us so they could grab a few more shots.
I want to say this was the longest character time we had the whole trip. One other place gave us a lot of time, but I think Woody and Buzz had them beat by a minute or two.

Landon was giving Woody the stink eye right from the get-go, so we decided to head him over to Buzz to see if he took to him.
Luckily, he did.

09.jpg

Landon couldn't stop staring at all the buttons on Buzz's front, and he watched with intent as the character noticed he was wearing a Toy Story onsie.

10.jpg

If you noticed, Landon was passed around from my mom to Alex and back to my mom. That was because the characters were taking so much time with us. The PP invited my mom to get a picture by herself, and Alex worked the room, visiting Woody since Landon wanted nothing to do with him.

(I got to give it to Woody, he realized right away that Landon was not his biggest fan and always stayed on the far side of him.)

11.jpg

Woody checked out Alex's pins. And mine. I had to fork mine over to the pack mule, because Landon was continuously tugging on it.
Once again, husbands can be really useful.

Landon's adoration of Buzz only grew as we stood around.

At the very beginning, Buzz and Woody kept making eye glass holes with their fingers to try and mimic Landon's glasses. That alone was a pretty cute incident, but at some point during the meet and greet, Buzz walked over to the window and began showing the guests outside Landon's glasses. He wanted everyone to see the wonder that was baby vision correction.

It was amusing to watch the characters keep the waiting kids outside happy, and Landon got a kick out of suddenly seeing all those people staring at him.

Not shy at all.

We finished up our meet by letting my mom get her pictures with Landon.

And then it was back outside to the madness that was the TSMM crowds. We took a quick pit stop at the nearby restrooms, applied some sunscreen to Landon (the sun was warming things up quite nicely that morning) and started coming up with our next game plan.

Up Next: Why Not?

What a cute meet with Buzz & Woody!!! So great that they took such a long time with him and gave him lots of attention. And of course, that they loved his little glasses so much. :lovestruc Alex looks so happy in the group picture where he is holding Landon. Proud daddy!!

Happy Birthday Landon! It is crazy how fast that first year flies! Are you having a party for him?

It’s unfortunate that Landon was waking up so early, but if you had to be awake at least you were getting some time with your mom.

Love the picture of him playing in front of the mirror. Gavin still loves doing that!

All your speak of the terrible crowds has me worried about our December trip!

That stinks you weren’t going to be able to ride TSM again but that is great you had some free time for meet & greets that day.

The wait for buzz and woody is terrible. The building is SO SMALL. I really wish they would do a refurb so there could be a FP+ to meet them. We had to skip it last year. In the past we’ve always had rude kids who’s parents didn’t stop them from not waiting their turn in front of the photo ops. There was also the time that the guy in front of us forgot his deodorant that morning. Fun times. Gavin had that same Buzz & Woody onesie from the Disney store. I can’t remember if he wore it on our trip though.

I think Buzz & Woody are always worth the wait though, as the interactions are always really good.

I love all the pictures!

Oh Wow Alicia, Landon's a narcissist. :rotfl2: Of course, you can hardly blame him. :goodvibes

Haha, in a strange way he reminds me of my cat. "Get up, get up, time to get up!!! You're up... OK, I"m going back to sleep."

I guess you can't complain too much if baby controlled this day seeing as though the day before was perfection.

Oooh I remember that day at DHS. I found it crowded too.

Given its location, I'm not surprised at all that the Buzz/Woody meet is so crowded. I'm sure they'd be popular anyway, but I have to wonder if the line would be that long if they were in a different location away from TSMM. Things that make you say "Hmmmm".

That said, it was totally worth the wait for that interaction and all those pictures. I met your mama was in her glory.

That is a really cute meet and greet with Buzz! Landon looks like he is having a great time! What adorable pictures!

It's so nice that you were able to spend some special time with your mom and Landon.

And Alex the sherpa pack mule! too funny! :rotfl2:

Great meet & greet. We have yet to do that one. In all of our trips, we somehow have not been in there. I've always thought those things while waiting look really fun, though. We'll probably need to do that next time we go, whenever that is. Glad that Landon and Buzz got along so well! Very cute! Too bad about the "runner" infringing on your fun, though. :sad2:

Yay! Such a great update! I've been lurking on your trip report for a while now and enjoying it immensely.

I LOVED your Osborne Lights update. Seriously, made me a little weepy.

And Landon is OMG SO CUTE. So. Much. Cheeks!! Love it. I think he might be the same age as my little guy (he turned 1 on April 3).

And I know this is a little off topic, but I too, am a parent to a terrible sleeper. So while I feel pain for your sleepless nights, I was also perversely happy to find another terrible sleeper in this world, because it was SO FRUSTRATING when people with babies the same age started talking about how their baby was "finally" sleeping through the night. AT THREE MONTHS. Meanwhile, my baby is up at LEAST three times a night....

Has Landon's sleep gotten any better, though? Because ours seems to have had kind of a breakthrough in recent weeks. Still wakes up and fusses sometimes but goes right back to sleep. Maybe he feels more mature now that he's 1 or something :rotfl:

Anyway, sorry to hijack the thread....just commiserating!

What a great meet with Buzz and Woody! I love how great they were with Landon, and wow does he ever love Buzz' buttons! You can really see the concentration in his eyes :)

Happy Birthday on Monday Landon!!
(it is a great day for a birthday if I do say so, it is DH and my birthdays on Monday too!)

I love this picture of Landon.

"So, my mom and I spent our entire meal listening to Alex go on and on about how he was stuck eating bland chicken when he could have been enjoying his beloved pasta. "

It was not bland just.... well nasty.

I'm thinking I can now see where some of my back trouble comes from.

As much as I loved the photo ops in the queue for Woody and Buzz, I wish there was more room. Everything is so packed in that even trying to get a picture requires the occasional stepping on toes as you try to back up and fit the kids in the frame of the camera. :rotfl: And yes, I also noticed more of other children's behavior in such a tight space. Usually those CMs at the meet and greet spot are experts at intercepting stray children running into another family's meet and greet but I guess this one failed. :rotfl: Great meet and greet!

Awesome update! I am so happy to hear that you had such a great meeting with Buzz and Woody. That little kid sounded obnoxious and I would be so annoyed with those parents. I have a 4-year old and he is expected to wait his turn and respect others people's space. I hate when parents just ignore or excuse their kids behavior.

Looking forward to see who you met next!

Landon’s birthday is this Monday
Hey! That's today! Happy Birthday Landon!!!

My mom agreed to watch him while I went back to my room and woke up Alex. The two of us got ready, and when we returned to my mother, we discovered she had found something to keep the baby entertained.
Grandmothers are always pretty good at doing things like that. :thumbsup2

Man, it’s a good thing he can grab a good catnap whenever he needs one. After all, beating the sun up can sure cause one to be pretty tired….

:rolleyes2
:lmao::rotfl::rotfl2: Isn't that just so frustrating?

When we reached the entrance for TSMM, it was 6 minutes after park opening, the line for Fastpasses reached past One Man’s Dream, and the standby line was:

75 minutes.
 :crazy2: :faint: WOW!

Those are those Disney moments you look back on and laugh.
:rotfl2::rotfl::lmao: You're absolutely right. Obviously, that one picture means the world to your mom!

In addition to him constantly cutting Landon off, he also ran EVERYWHERE. The mom just kept telling people, “He’s a runner.”
I totally understand the frustration of trying to keep an energetic 3 year old occupied, but how about at least giving it the slightest bit of effort???? :crazy2:

I seriously doubt we could have done that meet and greet if he was the 13 months he’ll be in May. Landon just wants to be doing something at all times. So I better count my blessing he was so easy to handle on this trip.
:lmao::rotfl::rotfl2: I'm glad that you realize that now and have realistic expectations! :thumbsup2

I'm glad that your meet with Buzz and Woody went so well and hopefully made your mom's day! You've always got to appreciate characters who understand the kid they're dealing with and encourage them or give them space as needed! :thumbsup2

Happy birthday, Landon! Wow that time passed quickly!

When we reached the entrance for TSMM, it was 6 minutes after park opening, the line for Fastpasses reached past One Man’s Dream, and the standby line was:

75 minutes.

Whoa!! I don't blame you for not going in!

Your Buzz and Woody meet is so cute, they sound like they were great with the whole group, and especially Landon! His fascination with Buzz's buttons is so cute!

Oooh the Osborne Lights! My favorite too! :lovestruc I'm going to go into a deep depression this December when I realize I don't have a Disney trip lined up...although...I'm already thinking about maybe possibly doing a long weekend, just to see the Christmas stuff...we'll see...(don't tell anyone...especially Brandon! :rolleyes1 :rotfl2:)

Aww, Landon is the cutest, all smiley and happy at the lights!

Ugh, I could not believe the mornings at DHS! It's like you actually have to be the first person in the park to ride standby on TSM now. I was so annoyed when we were there in December, how long the line was and how there was just no way to get a decent FP time.

Haha, I don't blame Landon for being freaked out by Woody! His head is gigantic! :rotfl2: And Buzz is awesome, I love that they took so much time with you guys!

I would definitely leave the stroller when you go see the Osbourne Lights. It can get really exhausting, holding a little one for so long, but having the freedom to walk around is totally worth it. Just one less thing to stress about!

Oh cool! A last minute birthday trip sounds fun! Are you staying on property? If so, where? Any ADRS? I love Disney plans.:rotfl:
I haven't said where we're staying yet, because I want it to be a surprise for my next report, but I realized I'll probably have to post about it soon. We visited the resort on our last trip, and when I post about it, it'll be quite obvious that's where I wanted to stay.

Absolutely say hello if you spot me in the parks! I love having DISmeets!

I love hearing Disney plans too! :goodvibes I think that is why I try to read a lot of PTR and TR. I don't always have time to reply, but I am out there reading along.

Anyway, we are staying at the CBR. We do have a few ADR, Tusker house breakfast, H&V Star Wars Dinner, Beirgarten Lunch, BOG Lunch FP+, Sci Fi Star Wars Breakfast, and we are also taking our DS on the Fireworks Pirate cruise the night of his Birthday  . The cruise I think is going to be a blast. I really am looking forward to that.

I can't wait to hear a little about your plans, and I do hope out paths will cross sometime during our stay.

What a cute meet with Buzz & Woody!!! So great that they took such a long time with him and gave him lots of attention. And of course, that they loved his little glasses so much. :lovestruc Alex looks so happy in the group picture where he is holding Landon. Proud daddy!!

I was impressed with how much time we got with the characters. I figured with a line as long as it was, it would be a quick hello, oh look how cute, snap, snap, done.
Alex was pretty happy to watch Landon meet Woody and Buzz.

Happy Birthday Landon! It is crazy how fast that first year flies! Are you having a party for him?

It’s unfortunate that Landon was waking up so early, but if you had to be awake at least you were getting some time with your mom.

Thanks! We had a semi-party for him. I talk about it a bit in my next update.

That first week in December was kind of a flux. It's normally not that bad, but because there was no week between it and Thanksgiving, there were a lot of people staying longer on their holiday trip.

If you want an idea of what the crowds will be like, just call and check the room discounts frequently. We couldn't get squat from the minute they were released, which should have told us something. Unlike then, for our May trip we were able to add 2 more days to our deluxe stay with a military discount about a month and a half out. So I really think it's a small indication on how crowds will be.

Oh Wow Alicia, Landon's a narcissist. :rotfl2: Of course, you can hardly blame him. :goodvibes

Haha, in a strange way he reminds me of my cat. "Get up, get up, time to get up!!! You're up... OK, I"m going back to sleep."

Haha, Landon does have some similarities to cats. He loves shiny objects and playing in sun spots on the floor and thinks he's the center of the world. :rotfl2:

You forgot, though, that most cats just want to be fed, then they can go back to sleep.::yes::

I don't know about wait times, but I think having the two so close together is a major conjestion issue. There's always a mass pileup on that sidewalk because people are trying to either go on the attraction or walk inside the Meet and Greet. It can be crazy!

That is a really cute meet and greet with Buzz! Landon looks like he is having a great time! What adorable pictures!

It's so nice that you were able to spend some special time with your mom and Landon.

And Alex the sherpa pack mule! too funny! :rotfl2:

Haha. He says that's probably where his back problems arose from.:rotfl2:
He'll just have to suffer through, though, because I'm sure May will be a similar story.

This picture is so cute! Buzz is one of my favourite characters. Buzz coupled with adorable youngling=really, really adorable picture.

Also, happy early birthday to Landon! Yay birthday!:banana:

Thank you!:goodvibes

Buzz is a pretty awesome character. I was happy Landon took to him.

:sad2:

I'd never been inside that queue area before, so it was pretty cool to see. I think it needs to be bigger, though. There's a lot of folks that want to meet those 2 guys!::yes::

Yay! Such a great update! I've been lurking on your trip report for a while now and enjoying it immensely.

I LOVED your Osborne Lights update. Seriously, made me a little weepy.

Aw, thank you! :goodvibes I appreciate you reading!

And Landon is OMG SO CUTE. So. Much. Cheeks!! Love it. I think he might be the same age as my little guy (he turned 1 on April 3).

Right now's such a fun age. Except, whew, they are everywhere and into everything! (And a happy belated birthday to your little man!)

:worship:
Ahhh, someone else who feels my pain!:rotfl:

It's rough having a bad sleeper. You can't remember the last time you got a full night's sleep, and you try all the tricks in the books to get them to last for more than 3-4 hour stretches.

For a few weeks there, Landon was actually sleeping from 8 to 4:30, which was fantastic. He's kind of jumped back to 8 to 2, but he's teething and he's had family in town so his routine is off. I'm cutting him some slack on it...:rotfl2:
I'm hoping, though, that the worst of the sleep issues are behind us.

Oh wow, that was a great day for birthdays!
Thank you, and I hope both of yours were great, as well. I'm sure your little DD made this one extra awesome.:goodvibes

I'm thinking I can now see where some of my back trouble comes from.

Your ticker is still wrong....

I'm just saying.

Plus, you need a cruise one now.

::yes::
