Why is WL so popular?

Bleeps: Forget the rental car. There are 250 miles of road just on WDW property! & you'd better know where you're going. I've seen more cars with distracted, disoriented drivers blow through the traffic light just outside WL (enroute to the TTC) than I've ever seen anywhere. & you might want to note an item somehwere on the DIS site about a "crackdown" on speeders on WDW highways. WDW has invited in the County Mounties to "get tough" on speeders at WDW. It also seems every time we're at WDW we hear about or see on the local news a story about a horrible accident with several dead tourists to Orlando. This last visit it was a van with UK tourists. Use WDW transportation. It's always worked for us.

Hi Bleeps,
My new friend WillCAD has summed my exact feelings. Nice job. Also I live outside Boston so my commute is quite miserable every day and I still rent a car every time.

Well really, thank you very much to each of you for your detailed and heart-felt responses! Everyone's perspectives are valuable AND helpful! Funny -- we live just outside of Boston, too (no, I am NOT singing "it's a small world, afterall...").

Sigh -- I just wish we were going sooner than 8 months and 11 days from now, but it's better than not having a trip planned! It will be very interesting to watch how the WL transportation changes pan out -- I'm sure there's someone there with an advanced degree in transportation engineering (?) who knows why it makes sense to take away direct access to TTC as the "price to pay" for adding bus service to MK....

Another option for you to try when heading for your Poly dinner might be to take the little boat from WL to CR then monorail to the Poly. Probably a nicer trip than the bus, plus might save some time? Anything involving MK seems to take more time. I may be wrong, but isn't it also a shorter monorail ride (CR to Poly vs. MK to Poly)? Just a thought...hope it helps. Though that is a bummer about the bus to TTC. Looks like I need to re-do my travel plans for my next trip. (Yes, I know I'm crazy planning this far in advance!)

The public areas of the WL are gorgeous. We enjoyed our time in those areas very much. We felt that the room, however, was in dire need of refurbishment. Unfortunately, too small can't be helped but too dark can be. Hopefully the next rehab will include slightly lighter colors. We spend very little time in our room, however, so as claustrophobic as it felt to us, it was fine. If you spend time in your room, however, be prepared. If you spend time at your resort in the public areas, though, you'll be amazed and astonished at the natural beauty WL offers.

We also felt that the transporation system, at best, was poor at WL. We usually have a car but always try the busses. We waited far too long at WL for any bus anywhere. Went back to using the car immediately. The boatride is wonderful, though, and if you plan to spend the majority of your time at MK, it's a wonderful way to get there.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at WL. We probably won't stay there again, though. We'd like to try AKL but I suspect we'll feel the same about it.
