If you are like me, you've been on dozens of failed diets. I've done 'em all, albeit briefly.

I've been on Atkins since June. The only thing I can think of is that I put no thought into it at the beginning. We were at WDW, and on the last day of vacation I decided to do Atkins (I had read the book previously). Bam, no preparation, I started it and haven't looked back. I think the time was right for me to lose weight.

So why is this lifestyle change permanent for you? Did something happen to make you stick to it or is it just your time?

I eat low-carb - 60g of carbs or less per day. I used to have terrible problems with acid reflux - taking over-the-counter drugs, prescription drugs, swallowing cameras, etc. When I started eating low-carb, all that reflux stuff went away!!

Whether I like it or not, if I want to feel good, I have to eat low-carb on a regular basis. Sure makes it easier for me to stay on or very close to plan! :D

My health is what made me switch to low-carb too! Being about 60 pounds overweight had made my blood pressure go up, so that the doctor put me on meds for it. I was tired all the time, and I was also diagnosed with a haetl (sp?) hernia because of my reflux problem.

Since going went back to eating low-carb (under 30 a day) I have lost 30 pounds, my blood pressure is normal without the meds, and my digestion problems has completely gone away! I can't remember the last time I ate a Tums or Rolaids!

I'm halfway to my weight goal and I'm feeling great! I have tons of energy, I sleep much better at night, and my whole outlook is better! :teeth:

I think the low-carb lifestyle is here to stay for me! ::yes::

I have wondered the same thing myself. I am not doing Atkins DH and I are "eating sensibly", counting calories, and exercising. All things we felt we could do forever. I have never felt better and have lost 31 lbs since we started in August. (DH has lost 58) We have never stuck with a weight loss plan for this long and can't explain why we are so motivated to stick with it this time. Maybe it's the results we are getting but we have no desire to give up and go back to our old ways. I truly feel I could do this forever and have never had that before. I believe a big part of my success so far has been WISH. I can come here everyday and get motivation from the successful WISHers, the WISHers who are struggling and sticking with it, and the new WIShers who remind me of how far I've come since I began. My PM buddies keep me encouraged even when I'm having a down day and that's such a great help. So while I can't pinpoint exactly what's changed this time, I can definitely say WISH is a big part of my success! :)

When I started WISH at the beginning of August I has no energy and I was finding it increasingly difficult to keep up with my DD's 6 and 9. So I decided I wanted to make a lifestyle change. I have lost weight before, but I had never changed my lifestyle, therefore I always put the weight back on. This time I am eating sensibly while watching my calorie intake (I'm keeeping it under 1200). I exercise everday, which I never did before. Plus I have stopped having caffeine and I now drink approx. 100 fl ozs of water everday (previously I never drank water!!) I attribute a lot of my success to WISH. Even though I don't personally know any WISHers I feel like I am accountable to you guys. You inspire me to keep on going. I am motivated by your suuccess stories and one day I am going to be one of WISH's success stories and hopefully I'll be able to motivate someone else.

I started wish in August after losing 8 lbs on my own, and so far I've lost 14 lbs. In the losing of those 22 lbs, I feel like I've found myself again! I have more energy, less pain in my hips and back, and a new routine of exercise and healthy living. I'm still cautious about the "this is permanent" statement because I've been up and down on the yo-yo:yo-yo: my whole life. At this moment, though, I feel like I can live like this on a day-to-day basis, and the reason is twofold: I commit this healthy journey each day to God and He gives me strength, and secondly, the community that I have around me--all you WISHers--lifts me every day and helps me like I've never had help before! For me, the daily focus and network of almost continuous support are what have made this weight loss journey possible and something that could be a permanent life style change for me. So thanks, WISHers--you're terrific!

I don't know what that one magic thing was. I had been thinking of it for a while. Clothes were getting tighter and I really didn't want to face going up another size. I had some co-workers have success with Weight Watchers so knew what that was about.

Then in September I had lunch with some DIS'ers we'll be sailing with next year. Both of the woman had lost weight since their last cruise and one was a WISHer. So I have Karyn (Kabuli1) for getting me inspired. She was doing Atkins which I knew wasn't for me. I checked into Weight Watchers and found they have an online version (no meetings). I felt that is program I could stay with.

Since then I'm down 19 lbs (hoping to get my 20 lb. clippie after my Monday weigh-in) and feeling great. I'm sleeping better. My blood pressure and pulse have both gone into normal ranges (both were borderline high). I also have had no heartburn at night!

The biggest change I made was giving up pop. While I usually always drank water at work I would come home and have 2-3 large glasses of Pepsi in the evening. Empty calories and I'm sure that was part of the heartburn. Now I've only had pop 4 times since I started this journey. It is more of a treat now instead of a regular thing.

I also started doing WATP a couple of weeks ago and that has got me feeling ever better.

I honestly think this is a lifestyle I can live with and that's why I'm going to succeed long term.

I think my health is a big part of it. Since my DS, now 2 1/2, was born I had been tried, hungry, and moody all the time. I was constantly having problems with weakness, headaches, shakyness, and cold sweats. My heart would race at times or pound so hard it would make me nautious. I also would feel very anxious and overly nervous at times. I finally had to go to the doctor for something and decided to ask him about my other problems. He told me I had Hypoglycemia. It was something I had suspected, but had not really considered for a number of reasons that I won't go into because that would really make this a long post. The doctor wasn't very helpful about how to take care of it so I bought tons of books and did research on the internet. It took a while to get it figured out, but I think I have now. And the difference between how I feel now and how I use to feel is unbelievable. The symptoms I described are now gone. Just ask my DH how different I am. ;)
Now I have lost 19 pounds, 10 before WISH, and 9 with WISH. I feel great and I can't imagine going back to feeling the way I use to. I also feel that WISH makes the journey so much better. I didn't have any support before, other than my DH. And there was no one who understood what I was going through. Now all I have to do is pop into WISH and I feel supported, understood, and cared for. It is a great feeling to have this great support group!:sunny:
