Why is the Spa on Disney contracted out to a third party?

Disney is so controlling about things that it's guests interact with. I know most of the other lines do the same... But Disney always seems to want to be different..

Maybe because you have to have special training to give massages? Although they could only hire people who have the training so that does not make sense.
I really enjoy the spa but just HATE the sales pitch, it is hard to relax when I keep hearing about the toxins in my body that need to be released (which they have the treatments and products that can take car of it;) ) I read somewhere on here to write no sales pitch on my info form and I will give it a try this time.

They also contract the spa services out at WDW. Probably cheaper that way also with the insurance, liability, training etc.

I don't have the answer to this one, but I can honestly say that you can tell that they are not DCL employees. There isn't much Magic at the Spa.

Actually, I thought there was 'magic' at the spa.:D

DH and I had the couples massage, and it was heavenly!

I hope this works..

My DW sells Mary Kay, and we really dont need to hear a sales pitch after our massage's..

I do have one question..Can you tell them right at the start of the sales pitch that we are not interested?..I would hate to be rude...But we really dont need anything..

Thanks

Staff attitude in 9/9 cruises has been lacking the Disney "magic" -

When we filled out our pre-massage questionnaire, at the very bottom we wrote "No Sales, Please" Didn't hear one word of sales talk. Avoided any awkward moments........

I unlike most people here don't mind the sales pitch. I usually have a massage and facial. After the facial I am very interested on what they would recommend for my skin. If they haven't written it down yet, I ask them to write it down. I can then take that to a local store and buy a similar product for cheaper. I have done this on a few occassions. I have never bought any products from them. I thank them for the treatment and politely tell them that I would like to take the information with me and think about it and I will come back when I decide on what I would like.

Disney is in the 'entertainment' business. They are not in the spa business, or medical business for that matter.

It always seemed like a drag to me that you would receive a protracted sales pitch after spending so much $ on a spa treatment....But now, after reading that you could write in "no sales" on questionaire, I think I may indulge...

For those of you who have had the reflexology foot massage, do you recommend it?

My hubby and I have cruised so many times that we probably could do the sales pitch ourselves! We use several Steiner products so we already know what we want when we get our massages (the refreshing gel is AWESOME).
But I wouldn't feel a bit awkward about telling them in advance that I don't want a pitch. I visit a spa near our home regularly, and as one of the masseuses there says, "This is YOUR time, so you call the shots!"

Both times I was on the Wonder, I was more impressed with both the condition of the Rainforest (equipment worked!) and the staff - but on the Magic, there has been too many times when the Rainforest has been down due to flooding, equipment malfunction, etc, *(yes, we get credit for it but still!) And I don't care much for their staff.

Steiner products are very good - the Refreshing Gel is one of the best. I must admit that I have all their facial products and many of their massage oils/scents - and I listen to the Spa CD at night to relax!

I just wish that they could get more personality and less attitude on the Magic~!

My DH and I were lucky enough to have couple's massages at the Grand Floridian Spa AND the spa on the Wonder. We were on a land/sea Romance package in June 2004. There was NO COMPARISON in the two experiences. the Grand Floridian Spa staff was SO professional and more than helpful. I could fell the "magic" and felt as if I was still in WDW and not in a "contracted" space. There was no mention of any "suggested" products. Their cheif concern was your total comfort. The spa on the Wonder was the total opposite. The staff was friendly but lacked that Disney drive to make the guest feel like a guest and not another check off on a list. When myself nor my DH bought any of the suggested products we were made to feel uncomfortable. I wonder if the two spas are owned by the same company?

The spa at the Grand Floridian is owned by a completely different spa then the one's on DCL...that's for writting your experience...never been to the one at GF...have wanted to because they offer different things. Will need to give it a try.

Absolutely!!! Its my fav treatment, and I've been trying to get someone at home who can do as good a job! Its very quick in that you don't have to change clothes, or take a shower afterward....

Its very relaxing, I fell asleep!! Kelli
