Why is Port Orleans Closed?

There are virtually no moderate rooms left in the month of October, yet Port Orleans remains closed. Why?

My opinion is at this point it’s a staffing issue. They have some major hiring to do to get everything open and be able to handle the demand.

Nobody here knows for sure but likely a combination of capacity limits at parks, staffing, budget and other things.

I agree with the posters above. Also October is the kickoff for the 50th celebration so I’m not surprised it’s so booked up already. I’m expecting this October to be extremely crowded.

I wouldn't be surprised if it opens soon. The Disney College Program is starting up soon and that will help them staff up quiet a bit.

It will open when 1) adequate staffing is available and 2) it is profitable for Disney to open it. I imagine one or both of those things aren't the case right now.

Until international travel opens in a significant way, Disney won’t open it, I’m quite certain. It’s a huge resort, requiring a lot of employees. And when it reopens, I imagine that only French Quarter will open to start with.

Transportation may have something to do with it. PO guests need to be bused to all four parks. With the current limited bus capacity, there may not be enough buses to go around. Hopefully bus capacity will be increased soon.

I guess I'm the only one who thinks that Disney is thinking that if you can't book a moderate maybe you will book a deluxe and Disney will make more money from you.

Its possible. And they're correct LOL. The only Value I would stay in is Pop, so if that or no moderates are available...then I guess I would be booking a deluxe.

Are there park reservations available? At least early on, they were matching room availability to capacity of parks. No reason to have 3 resorts 20% full when you can have 1 resort 60% full.

that could be the case but I have seen plenty of reports of folks being pixie dusted from ASMo to the Grand Floridian or AOA because they are over booked. I just went last month and was switched to GF since POFQ wasn't open. Beautiful resort but I would never pay full price to stay there.

I agree, we have stayed at GF twice, once in the "normal rooms" and another time in a suite... They were both great, but not worth the money for a pretty simple room. The view was amazing for the combined 30 minutes i was looking out my window for the entire week LOL.

Disney really has had no reason to open PO or POFQ due to lack of guest demand. They put a lot of value and moderate guests in Disney DVC units that were legally required to open but DVC owners gave Disney thousands of nights of rooms are DVC demand was very slow to return. If DVC units are left unused at the 60 day mark Disney has access to use the rooms.

They are just now getting around to opening the BC at the end of this month. The WL opens in June. The All Star Sports resorts are all still closed due to lack of demand.

Disney has opened AoA, Pop and All Stars Music with about 6,000 rooms so far. CBR was the lone Moderate to initially open due to it being on the Disney Skyliner with it's built in social distancing. CSR is just now starting to sell out on select periods. PO should be next but just like in 2001 expect POFQ to be the last moderate to open due its small size.

The BWI does not open until July 2nd almost 1 full year after first resorts reopened last July. And finally the Polynesian is scheduled to open on July 19th.

Same, we love POR and prefer to stay there. We currently have something booked at CBR, but are considering a switch so CSR Gran Destino Tower. We would give up both those for POR though. We booked CBR as we enjoy it and it’s a good backup, although lots of people are trying to convince us to try GDT…..We just want POR lol

ASMu is still closed, ASMo is open.
