Why is Peter Pan's Flight so popular?

I hope I'm not offending anyone but I just don't get it. The family and I have ridden it twice. Its not a terrible ride, but I can't say that I think its any better than any of the other dark rides. I'd say its about even with the other stuff in Fantasyland. What is the appeal exactly? The line is always so long.

It has a certain charm that appeals to a wide age-range

It's a SLOW loader with a very low number of guests that can ride per hour.

My DS13 kept asking the same question... what the heck?

But, Robo is right... it's not that it's so popular, it just loads slow and you can only fit two people (three if you squeeze) per ride vehicle.

And, I think that the length of the line makes everyone think it's something special, so they have to ride it. Which makes the line longer... vicious cycle.

Exactly as stated above. Don't confuse long lines/waits with popularity.

No offense taken. Each to their own.

I'm a big fan because of the imagineering that went into the ride. I mean, when you really think about it, what an amazing idea! I was 5 the first time I rode it with my folks. We were blown away when you come around the first corner and --"oh my gosh! Where does the track go?!? We're FLYING!!" Very cool IMHO.

Anymore, we don't ride every visit because it is such a slow loader. But last trip we headed there at RD because my wife had never experienced it. Even at 40 yrs. old she had that same reaction when you realise you are going to fly through the attraction.

I am amused that someone asked this question that has been in my head every time I go. We had not been in years because the line is always so long. But I have a new set of young grandchildren so we went this past year (with FP).

It still is not worth the wait but it is something the little ones can go on. We had gotten FP for our whole group but the big ones went to Space Mtn. so I took the 2 year olds 3 times in a row. Kept them busy but they did not want to go again the third time! :lmao:

I must be a lemming, because I had every intention of riding it a third time. I was thinking something must be wrong with me if so many people are willing to wait over an hour for it. I will skip it on this trip, and I certainly won't be wasting a FP on it. Most of the other rides with long lines actually are really good.

I haven't been to Disney since I was 4. 30+ years later, I still remember Peter Pan, so I assume there's a certain amount of nostalgia. I remember bits of the ride, and my parents did not photograph it, so yes, they are definitely memories. I also remember Dumbo and the Haunted Mansion.

What he said.:thumbsup2

My family likes it. It's kind of cool flying over London isn't it.:goodvibes

My wife and I love it - used FP+ for it when we went by ourselves in January. Our teen boys think it is a waste of time, FP or not. Different strokes.

I couldn't remember riding it as a child (we did Disney a few times so I may have but it didn't stick out.

However, DH and I rode it on an adult only trip and we were kinda awed by the technology. I mean, we both had that, "Uhhh where did the track go?" feeling and it took us a few seconds to figure it out.

So I agree with W.E.D!

To me this is the same as asking, "What's the big deal with a guy wearing a mouse suit?"

:rotfl:

Nostalgia, you're actually FLYING over everything (still novel to me) and the fact that this version is pretty similar to the one that opened in 1955 at Disneyland....consider the technical feat to do that in 1955.

Off we gooooooooo! Off to Neverland! Quintessential Disney. Don't forget to look for Tinkerbell's shadow in the first scene! And yes, because it's a slow loader. If you kind of look and time it, you'll see only like 2 people are boarding every 10 seconds or something like that.

To me it's nostalgia, my parents took me to WDW in 1977 and 1979, I was only 2 the first time. I was amazed that we were "flying" it's a classic. The same for me is a IASM, many hate it but that ride I am completely in awe. It's my childhood. It's a small loading ride as well as everyone has said.

During my CP that was my home ride along with Small World. From my understanding and questions that I asked to many different guests, their reason for loving it was due to it being one of the originals. There are few rides that are still left at WDW that are of older design and had Walt personally involved in the idea. So there's that. You are correct about the slow loading. That mixed with the ability to fit a MAX of 3 people (depending on their size) per car definitely adds up to a longer line than most rides. It's a personal thing I suppose. I can tell you that before I worked there, I HATED IT along with Small World. Now, I have a much greater appreciation for both after riding them multiple times. I find something new every time I ride that makes me love it even more and they are a must when I come back to visit as a guest even now. (The fact that I could do a walk through of each after we closed doesn't hurt either :cool1:)

This is one of those rides that I personally don't care for, but would still be sad to not have around anymore.
