this is from the dvc member site - my vacations - booking online - dvc resorts
at the top

Check Availability
Accommodation inventory is the same whether you book online or through Member Services, except within 10 days of arrival. For close-in bookings, if you do not receive your desired selection, you may contact Member Services.

Note:
  • Due to limited parking availability, we highly recommend all Disney Resort hotel Guests take advantage of our complimentary transportation options. For Guests arriving in their own vehicles, please be advised that only valet parking may be available. For Guests traveling to Epcot, please utilize the Epcot Guest Parking Lot.
  • Due to beachside building requirements, a majority of the rooms at Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort are located up at least one flight of stairs and do not have elevator access. Select Studio and One-Bedroom Villas offer elevator access, while 2-Bedroom Villas and 3-Bedroom Villas do not. Please call Member Services to book a room if you have accessibility concerns.

so does this mean that you can stay at our resorts - but you can't park in the resort parking lot? or am I just mixed up. since I drive to WDW this is a big deal for me.

Is that under BWV? If it's similar to what's on the BW page on WDW.com, honestly, it should be on everyone else's pages, LOL. It's meant for people traveling around from resort to resort. Not for the guests of THAT hotel.

no it is on the top of the page - so assuming it for all DVC resorts?

so you think it is only for guests not staying at that resort - okay feel better now - thanks

I guess our DVC contract doesn't include parking and they are getting us ready to have to pay for parking?

As they cram more rooms into the places the have for hotels, and don't expand parking, they have less parking. As more people drive, they run out of spots. I don't think parking was expanding at BLT, GFV or PVB - just the number of rooms. The Contemporary Resort has always had tight parking, expanding the rooms didn't help. BWV has always been tight.

OP, This is mainly aimed at those people who drive, park or try to park at BCV/BC/YC and BWV/BWI, then walk to the back entrance of EPCOT.

Did they actually add a lot of rooms at GFV or just convert them like PVB? My understanding is that the only additional rooms at PVB are the 20 bungalows (the studios were just converted so didn't add any additional rooms to the total # at the resort). Obviously BLT would have had a significant impact on the Contemporary since the garden wing it replaced was much smaller.

They built a new building for the DVC villas at the GF. So they added capacity for that resort. More people using the same pools, marina, quick service etc. than before DVC. Don't know about parking though, as I fly.

I'm not sure this is targeted at the resort guests as why would it mention going to EPCOT. I think this is for people who stay at another resort and want to park there.

We drive and the parking is okay but full at times. There are a lot of "park goers" that park at the DVC lot side of GF because the lot will be full at 10:00 pm and at 4:00am have a lot of space.

At BLT, I even saw housekeeping parking their personal cars in the lot and not all the way out. Saw them slowly move up all the by the main building after coming into the far end of the lot. At night, BLT can be horrible to park at and by morning it is wide open.

It is one of the biggest issues when driving at times and they need to get a handle on it.

We stay at BLT theme park view a lot and have witnessed many employees from the Contemporary doing just that. Seems to be the ones that are chronically "late" and can't find a close enough spot in the employee lot. I've seen them take the very closest spots to the Contemporary in the BLT lot.

I can usually see the BLT lot from one end to the other. The part of the lot furthest from the BLT lobby doors (close to the tennis courts) is always empty...even during Wishes and Halloween party nights. I do sometimes see big RV's parked there and can't figure that one out. Tired of the RV and are staying in a real room?

Recently, I have also seen a dark colored bus that picks up CM's at the far end of the sidewalk. I imagine they must be bussed to off-resort parking lots somewhere.

I imagine the guards have heard it all. When someone says they have a dinner reservation, it is easy enough to check. When someone says they want to go shopping and are looking for a particular collectors pin that is ONLY at the Contemporary shop, the guard most likely tells them they have to valet. They can say "sure" and then drive past the valet and into the regular lot. The guard is really too busy to stand there and watch where that car goes. Or they sit there and argue with the guard, hence holding up the line for those that can't get through the self-service gate (and I have seen that line get quite long).

Not sure what the answer is. But a guest staying at a particular resort should NEVER be forced to valet against their wishes.

I totally agree. I find it so arrogant and presumptuous that they expect us to just accept this and pay for valet [if necessary]. I have been a Member since 2006 and have been irritated by some of the things DVC does, BUT for some reason this notice on the website actually has me angry. >:( Unfortunately, I have no intention of NOT going to WDW . . . so they got me by the ying yang. :p

It seems odd that this is a new message on the website. Disney could do a much better job at controlling the parking if they wanted to but clearly they aren't trying. I wonder if this has to do with getting rid of the paper parking passes. How can Disney tell by looking at the cars who is staying there or not?

I remember the valet lot at BWV has a gate. Why couldn't they just put in one of those for Guest parking? Guests would either scan their MB or the parking pass. Then visitors would have limited parking spaces and will have to valet if there's no free parking.

BTW, when we were at BLT in Jan, every night the parking lot was full. Most nights we had to park towards the tennis court area towards MK. I had thought it was people parking for free and watching Wishes or going to MK, didn't even think about employees!

That's a good idea about another gate to get through. Except that I don't think it is fair to make someone valet if they have a dinner reservation at Flying Fish or the new Italian restaurant (which was very good BTW). Although...someone could show their receipt like the TIW people do.

About the BLT parking lot.....the very worst spot there is like the very best spot at BWV! Love the BoardWalk, but don't love walking to the car. BLT is nice....once you get to the lobby you can get on a elevator and don't have too far of a walk to your room.

:rotfl2:This is so true! We were going to book BWV for our next trip but I can't even stand to think about that walk.
