Why is it that people feel.....

the need to start negative threads? I just don't understand it. Worst meal, worst experience......what gives.....isn't this supposed to be the Disboards? Isn't Dis a magical experience? Whats up with all the negativity? I for one love Disney, have a great time whenever I go, and if something does go wrong I take action then and there and forget about it and have a great time after! How about starting threads like what great thing happened, what nice things were done for you while there, how wonderful the CM's at....are, the lines were long(I know I was going at a busy time) but we enjoyed talking about what a great time we've already had, and how excited we are about doing.......tomorrow??????

I guess really it's just one persons opinion. Sometimes many people take others advice and not go to that restaurant. I don't personally find thm being 'negative' but they are telling what their opinon is.

I suspect negative threads are a form of reaction to buyer's remorse: WDW is very expensive, and often folks regret having spent that much money, regardless of how great the experience was.

cant answer your question, but i always try to respond to those by saying i cant think of anything really negatvie and try to put a positive spin on it.

They're negative people, in my experience. To them, every silver lining has a cloud. Ignore them and enjoy your life. Don't emulate them, life is too short, and most of the folks who visit here have found a better way.

I often see humor in the negative posts. And I've gotten some really good advice from some of them. For example, I wish I'd listened to the opinions on the Stitch ride, and not spent 40 minutes waiting in line for it! Live and learn.

If people never complain and never discuss the bad experiences they have, how will we, or Disney management know when we're dissatisfied. Sometimes people have bad experiences but aren't able to speak to management at that time, or whatever the situation may be.

Sure Disney is a fantasy world, but it's not perfect, and many here would probably say that their service overall has been declining recently. I've even heard it from Disney employees themselves.

I'm with you Wendy1953!! I don't want to dwell on anything negative- I agree you just need to deal with it (no one wants to be a doormat!) and then go on and remember the good stuff. Although my kids do seem to remember when Daddy got sent home from Epcot and put in time-out (he had a migraine from too much ice cream and was really annoying!!) more than anything else! :woohoo: :woohoo:

I, for one, appreciate the 'worst' threads. I've never been to WDW, and I want to make the best choices for my family. We only have so much time to ride the attractions, and only so much money to spend on meals. If I can learn that most people have, say, Stitch and the Noodle Station on their worst lists, then I can scratch them off my lists and save time/money for more popular places!

Wendy 1953 - I couldn't agree more. While some of the posts can be helpful, most on the "worst" threads are, as Bicker suggests, buyer's remorse.

Either buyer's remorse or many of we DIS'er's are not as full of pixiedust as we would like to believe. As I review an entire "negative" thread of perhaps 150 posts, I read 15-20 helpful hints or new WDW info, and the rest, well....sometimes I think we are all either neurotic, anxiety ridden, OCD's or plan spoiled Americans with far too much time and money on our hands.:rotfl:

My WDW experiences have been shaped a great deal by having tragedy occur during my vacation. After that event, I have gotta tell ya - lines, parade pushers, inappropriate garb, an off CM, an off meal, a messy restroom, a dust bunny under the bed or GOODNESS GRACIOUS!!- a resort interloper hanging out on the wrong grounds....none of this bothers me.

In fact, it rather amuses me. I wish it hadn't taken so long in my life to understand that life is too short and the big picture is too awe-inspiring to let some annoyances make me "peeved" enough to wanna actually post about it!

I KNOW service and quality has decreased at WDW. So it is in the world at large, as it is with lack of courtesy and respect and humility. AS WDW goes, so goes our world. What you are seeing here, Wendy, I think is a reflection of what's out "there"..:sad1: :sad1: :sad1:

::yes:: ::yes:: Keep looking for the pixiedust...it's almost never where we had expected to find it!!!

If people didn't speak out (with words as well as with their credit cards) about things they didn't like at Disney, we'd all be riding Journey Into Your Imagination and Superstar Limo clones while looking forward to Light Magic in the evenings instead of there being Expedition Everest, Soarin' and Wishes for us to enjoy ;) They only give you as much "magic" as they have to, as cheaply as possible, to keep you coming back - otherwise they'd be doing a disservice to their stockholders.

I think most people here will agree that the parks are currently in fantastic shape compared to just a few short years ago, when maintenance problems popped up all over the place and were hard to ignore even to those guests wearing the most rose-colored, Mickey-shaped lenses available (and ultimately I decided to stop going for a couple of years because I felt that the magic had dissipated too much for me to keep throwing my $$$ into Eisner's lap).
Clearly, there are still issues here any there that many people see that don't match their expectations. Talking about them may help others avoid similar experiences, thereby making their vacations more "magical". If many people complain about the same thing, it increases the chances that the company will take notice and eventually do something about it (some examples being the two rides and "parade" mentioned above).

Naturally, this isn't really the place to go to instigate change (although you'd be surprised to find out who reads these boards), and the DIS forums in particular tend to be one of the most pro-corporate ones out there, but I still think these kind of discussions have value - for others to reflect on their own experiences, learn about widespread problems in advance so that they may avoid them, and sometimes just to get a good laugh out of them. And again, these days, many of the "worst experiences" illustrate just how good the company is doing right now - because they aren't nearly as bad as the kind of stories you read in 2001 and 2002!

I think negative threads should appear every now and then for the reasons people have given above. But also, one of the best services that the 'Unofficial Guide to Disney' provided for me, was to warn me that despite being an amazing place, the Disney people are not perfect and the Disney experience can, in certain circumstances, actually be negative.

The classic example was the Animal Kingdom - the unofficial guide warned me about crowded pathways, lack of shade, the need to get there early, the need to backtrack through Discovery Island, the lack of rides, the shortness of Kali River Rapids. So I got there early, focussed on soaking up the amazing atmopshere, took my time, asked loads of questions about the animals, took plenty of breaks to get out of the sun, used touring plan to avoid the crowded paths as best as possible and I focussed on enjoying every second of Kali! And you know what, it was my favourite park of the whole trip.

Using the unofficial guide I went to Dis with a realistic view and realised I would have to put thought in to make sure we got 100% out of the holiday. And without the warnings and the realism I think the trip would no way have been as good.

We all know on this board how amazing Disney is - there is no harm in realising and discussing every now and then that it's not perfect! And at the same time helping Disney to get as close as possible.

There are good point on both side of this issue. I especially resonate with deb's point that there is great value in helping guests understand what would be reasonable expectations to hold on their trips to WDW. Folks who go down to Orlando expecting every CM to be utterly happy and entertaining, or there will be someone there to get them to the front of every queue -- well those folks won't enjoy their vacations as much as folks who are aware of reality.

I really hate it when people criticize other people's posts.

I mean, I don't want to read about what other people think about what other people think.

Stop posting things about other posts.

Just stop.

I mean it.

Bad post. BAD!

Isn't this a negative post in and of itself?

AND, isn't it funny that so many gravitate towards the negative ones, at least as often as the positive?

Guess that makes us message-board rubberneckers.

It's sort of like asking why World News Tonight is always broadcasting bad news. The good news doesn't require as much discussion.

and robo....just exactly what are you doing with this post???????

Usually the "negative" threads are more interesting than the positive threads. Many positives turn into a "me too" fest, which is tiresome. Also, Disney does so much right that it's far quicker to point out the few things it gets wrong.
