Why is it everytime I fly on a plane,

If your legs are too long to be comfortable, or you just have to be able to use your laptop, then consider booking a flight on an airline that has roomier seats or book first class.

yes, i am sure that all of us that travel for business will get their company to pay for 1st class fares.

Okay, now I have a funny image of someone trying to block the fastpass line with his leg outstreched from over in teh standby line becuase he does not like all of those people using the lines as they were designed. If someone came here and posted about how rude people were to use fast passes I think they would be laughed off the boards:lmao: Thanks for the giggle:goodvibes

Lol!! But I think some people on here actually hate Fast Passes and think they are rude!! :rotfl:

I seem to remember some discussions along those lines, regarding things like FastPasses, Premium FastPasses and FOTL, when these things were still just ideas -- before they were (are) realities. The best example will be the Premium FastPasses, the idea that resort guests will be able to get some FastPasses apart from the normal system, as part of the premiums they get for staying at a Disney resort. Some of the comments about that got very prejudicial (to describe it politely) against resort guests who think that they'd like such an option be made available to them.

I always put my seat back. It's a bit more comfortable that way. I've never noticed much of a difference when the person in front of me puts their seat back. It only goes back a few inches anyway.
As soon as they announce that you can recline, I do it. I am only 5'2" & the headrest hits my head/neck just in a spot that makes it impossible for me to keep my head upright. It is pushed forward, making my neck & back cramp. Try sitting for any length of time with your chin tucked in to your chest. If I can't recline my seat for some reason then I have to shift myself so that I'm either sideways or my head is close to the open area between the seats. Not comfortable at all.
I must be really lucky, because I lean my seat back, but haven't had issues with people purposefully banging into the seat. I'm sure I've been bumped a few times, but not anything terrible. And I'm pretty careful with the seat in front of me. If it's leaned back I try not to "bang" into it.
Same here.......I don't see this as a problem. I'm always conscious of not grabbing the seat in front of me if I have to get up, as I know it can be annoying. However, whether it's reclined or not, people will grab it.

I guess I am one of the rude ones. I always put my seat back and have NEVER given it a second thought when the person in front of me does either? I would never think they are being rude.
Me either.
Why would the tray table be closer to you when someone reclines? It does not move when the seat moves, at least not on the flights that I have taken. It's attached to the part of the seat that doesn't move.
I was thinking the same thing. It doesn't seem like the tray gets closer to you. Actually, I usually pull the tray closer to me by using the "slider" option on it. I think the tray looking closer to you might be an illusion. Actually, the top of the seat in front of you gets closer to the tray, but I think the tray stays in the same spot.

For those that are extremely uncomfortable, it might be worth it to ask your employer if you (the employee) can pay for an upgrade out of your own pocket.

To recline your seat a little is fine, but reclining it the WHOLE WAY, unless you are in business or first-class is totally rude. Yes, the seats were built to recline, but most of the planes used today are 20-25 years old and they used to have fewer seats then and much, much more leg room. (Ask anyone who's been flying for 25-30 years, like me, about the differences in air travel then.) The airline industry started trying to squeeze as many seats in as possible to make more money, at the passenger's travel comfort expense. On my last flight, the guy in front of me reclined the whole way for the entire flight making it impossible for me to use my tray table to work. If he had only reclined 1/2 of the way or even a 3/4 of the way, I would have had no problem. He never even bothered to look behind to see if I had any leg space at all - which I didn't - making my entire flight miserable.

I i know. We were at AK in 1999 when they were testing fast passes. They had cast memebers by all the distribution areas begging peopel to try out the new and free way to cut your wait in line. Most people ignored those cast members. boy did we egt lots of dirty looks, and one man screamed obcenities at us while threatening to jump the bar and chase us down as we walked onto Safaris.:sad2:

Respectfully, how is that possible? Isn't there an armrest between you and the wall of the plane?

Yes, but when you're tall and have to lean against the wall of the plane to give your mom even a tiny bit of room, that armrest is effectively eliminated. The armrests are basically at thigh-level for me anyway, and scrunching my arm down between me and the wall to use that one armrest is even less comfortable.

Well...color me totally rude then because if I'm on a plane my seat is totally reclined. I think it's totally rude for people to think that it's totally rude to recline a reclining seat!! ;)

I know a lot of people get out their laptops on planes, but even without the seats reclined there just isn't enough room...no way am I digging out my laptop on a plane.

I usually recline my seat so I can get a bit more comfortable. I never mind if the person in front of me reclines also. That's why the seats were made to recline.

I don't recline my seat because I know that it's a pain for the person behind me and I don't feel particularly more comfortable when it's reclined anyway. Flying is just plan uncomfortable!

Before this thread I had NO IDEA that reclining my reclinable airline seat was being rude.

Only on the DIS.....

I don't think it's rude to recline one's seat at all. I just don't do it personally because it makes an already uncomfortable flight worse for the person behind me. I'm surprised that airlines haven't gotten rid of the reclining seats to be honest.

The very top of the seat reclines what...four inches? So (and I'm no Enginner) how far could the "pivot point" of the seat possibly move? An inch?
I don't see any big deal. Recline away.

I'm sorry that I have a bad knee and don't like to get stiff. Other than taking walks up an down the aisle, the only other solution is to recline my seat. (So that my legs and stretched instead of bent) If you don't like it you can gladly take my knee replacement!

FWIW, I don't mind if the person in front of me reclines. Then I just recline my seat.

The "pivot point" of the seat doesn't move at all. That's why it's called a "pivot point". :)

I guess the question would be how much movement is there at the part of the seat that is at the same level as a person's knees.

But as I said before, the seats are intended to be reclined. If you don't fit when the person in front of you reclines the seats, you should fly another airline or book first class.

Unfortunately, this is not only on the DIS. Check out a frequent flyer forum sometime and see what kind of response you get.
