Why is it acceptable....

It's always interesting to see one person start with the insults, and then everyone run and jump on the bandwagon.
are you talking about the humor on this thread now?? I don't think i have seen insults

suggesting you 'lighten up" is not an insult in my book...and that is the worst comment i have seen here.........

You have never stalked anyone on the DIS or made fun of anyone who is a regular poster on here? I am not asking you if it's right or wrong, I'm asking you if you have truthfully ever done it?

Yes I have have done what you described, and many times they have been deleted... or worse.

But I haven't started a thread here about another thread to be mean, and that's what this thread is about is it not?

Ok, color me clueless but the only thread I know about in the last couple of days are the 2 about Adults only at WDW and No kids at WDW. Neither of which you started or were being made fun of in. :confused3 What other threads are out there? I only go to the threads that catch my imagination with their title so I'm missing a lot, I think.
SO post links. Maybe we could jump on your side and help you out.

Um, I already said it on the thread I was referring to, the thread in which the "polls" come spring from.

But if people really have no idea what I'm talking about, ;) , then such is life. :sunny:

In all honesty, if this is the worst issue someone has to worry about, their life is pretty good. :thumbsup2

I can't believe how many people have posted about this issue.

Edited to add, including me. :lmao:

Just doesn't seem fair, that's all. So many can get away with things, when so many can't.......

I'm really not that worried since I don't spend all my time on the interet. :)

I know...but the thread has naturally morphed a bit. So it's ok to rip on people in the middle of threads that they start, but not start one for the purpose of ripping on them. I just wanted to make sure that was your position?

I know that I have made childish posts in the past. There is no doubt that I have said somethings on the net that I shouldn't have and I honestly regret them. Knowing that, I think it would be hypocritical for me to criticize other people for the same things I have done regardless of when and where. That's just my opinion.

It's like real life, some peopl we get along great with, some people we don't get along so great with, and some we just can't stand. The issue with an internet bb is that people sometimes feel more free to be rude or snarky (not in the #10 way :lmao: ) than they would if they were face to face with someone. I am not accusing any one of that behavior but I have seen it. I try not to take things personally here. I started a thread earlier today that no one has responded to. Not a big deal. I am not part of any one group but I jump in if I see something I want to talk about. If I'm accepted great, if not, oh well. I don't let it get to me.

Try not to take things to heart here, if you do, it will really get you down. I have met some great people here and then had a few instances where I thought "Wow, that person is a piece of work" but I just try to shake it off.

I realize that, but I wanted to start my own thread about it, not get blasted for saying something on the original.
I think that is the reason some people start those threads, just like it is the reason you started one. I can just see someone starting a "Why is it acceptable to start a thread to make fun of someone for starting a thread to make fun of someone?" thread.

Another reason is that sometimes the original thread is just too funny and they are having a laugh.

Although I'm not a big poster on the "clique" threads (they move too fast for me! I can't keep up!) I have posted on them here and there...and may again in the future.

Anytime I've posted there, the folks hanging out in them have been welcoming and a lot of fun. Not at all exclusionary. Since they'll accept ME, I think they'll accept anyone. Heck, doesn't the PMS thread welcome newbies? If you want to post there, post there! If you don't, then quit yer (w)itchin.

It's a message board. You can come and go through threads as you please. And you can put people on Ignore. If only real life had the "Ignore" feature.

Again, why is it fair form some to get away with making fun of people and some not?
Everyone keeps giving me the argument not to be sensitive, but it's not that.
It's what I said already.

Ya know gobears, my experience is that the message boards are just like "real life".....
There are always going to be people that "get away with things".
There are always bullies.
There are always people who *think* they are cute or funny.
There are always people who really are cute or funny (the less obvious ones in my book).
There are always people that pick on others (usually because they have been picked on themselves).
There are always people that know it all.
There are always people that think they know it all.
I could go on, but I think you catch my drift....

Just like in 'real life' you just gotta take the good with the bad. Ignore the nonsense. And let the 'funny ones' entertain themselves (my guess is that they don't have many friends in real life to entertain them, so this is the next best thing). Come get the info you want or need and don't sweat the rest. Works for me.

And if that doesn't work, I just read about a feature where you can block certain posters! Give that a whirl.

See this little symbol:
report.gif
? It's on each post, under the poster's name. This is the "report bad post" button.

If you encounter a post (or a thread) that is troublesome or in violation of our guidelines (fighting, personal attacks, profanity, advertising) or needs to get the attention of a moderator, use the
report.gif
button, briefly explain the problem in the text box that will pop up, and click submit. This will sent a link to the problem post to all of the moderators of that forum.

If there's a thread that is offensive, inappropriate or mean, please use this button to let us know.

If we find that the post violates our guidelines, we will handle it. If it does not violate our guidelines, but is something that you just don't like, try skipping over it or putting that poster on your ignore list.

Good post. :thumbsup2

I won't think about this after I turn off my computer, but I just had to put it out there for myself because I had been thinking about it. :)

It's what I said already.

Because the DIS is a big place, and some threads come and go before a mod can catch them.

Or different mods have different opinions as to what is a violation of board policy or not.

Look at a site like ebay. Every day there are tons of listing violations - blatant breaking of the rules. Not all of them get caught. Sometimes the ones who are caught are good, honest sellers who made a genuine mistake. They get punished while dishonest, irresponsible sellers continue to sell, without getting caught.

It is unfair, and it does stink, but that's how things are sometimes. Unfair and stinky.

The existence of a particular thread or post on the DIS is not a de facto endorsment by the mods. Or by the community.

Although honestly, I still have no clue what you are talking about, so I don't know if I would or wouldn't approve of whatever thread/post/poster that is making you so upset.

I don't know about all of them, but a recent thread, one like you speak of, was started, in my opinion, because some of the people involved in a debate could not hold up their end of the arguement, were losing, and so they went somewhere else to talk about the topic in the way they wanted to.

It did tick me off, but I really took it as them not having a strong position. When you are on the short side of the debate and you resort to digs and jokes at the other side's expense -- well that says alot.

LOL and another thing -- people always have such a "that's life" attitude until they are on the wrong end of it -- then they are all about the quest for fairplay!

And yes, in some ways this thread is doing the same thing, but at some point I think things need to be discussed even if there is a hypocritical element to the discussion.

I consider that a spoof thread.

I haven't read it in its entirety--but OP, how can it be a collective personal attack when it is not attacking anyone in particular.

Even in the inspiration--there are some spoofing and jokes going on.

Sometimes it just lightens the mood.

Basically there are certain topics that just become funny to discuss..like the spoofs on making the vacation cheaper.

But if it upsets you, then it upsets you, but I agree with some of the others--you just did the same thing.

Read all my posts on this thread and if it's not clear, then you can pm me. :)

Believe me, I fully realize that I probably will never get anyone to answer my posts anymore, and that's okay. I was called a tattle-tale, go tell my mommy, and then told if I didn't like to report the thread.

Don't worry, I'm not reporting any threads, and I told my mom, but she didn't really care. :confused3

There is no 'hold up their end of the arguement' when the orig. thread was based on opinions and hypotheticals. Like I said on that thread I don't think anyone's opinions ever change. People that are swayed are sitting on the fence anyway. If you think your arguement was so overwhelming how many people have you brought over to the dark side?

But claiming your side is the winner on a third thread that is OT and not what the OP is about, that says nothing?

People have some pretty selective reading around here...
