Why is everyone so upset?

I'm trying to wrap my head around all the negativity when dealing with the new FP system. I remember the day of "E" tickets and no fast past. When vacation at any Disney outlet was relaxing and enjoyable. When folks didn't tour down to the last minute and kids and adults alike had a great time. What happened? Has life became so hectic that we can no longer wait in line like we use to? If you ask me...it's sad that we can't slow down and enjoy what is an awesome time. The time when Walt had a vision.

Yes, I understand that time is precious and kids (and adults) are spoiled. Is the time to stand inline and talk to others gone? Has Disney spoiled it or have we?

I refuse to go all out all day long. I refuse to worry about FP, whether it be + or -. I refuse to not enjoy something that makes me happy.

Teach yourself and your kids to slow down and enjoy the time together. Life is too short to worry about anything else....imho.

Go Noles!!!

I'll let a few others post before I jump in. ;)

Why do people start threads about negative threads instead of starting their own positive threads?

I think in the days of E tickets, it was comparably cheaper to go to Disney. And yes if I'm spending between $2,500 -$6,000 I'm going to expect to see everything and not spend over an hour+ in each line.
Disney isn't cheap, some people may only go once every few years, so they do want to get the most out of their visit

...and here come the "everyone vacations differenty" posts. :mic:

Seriously, I completely agree with you. I certainly can understand being nervous about a new system, but things have really gotten out of control around here. A bit of perspective may be needed. JMO. :confused3

Well, I'll take the 'plunge' LOL

I'll agree part way with you. I, too, used to go to Disney when there were far less people and fast passes were a thing of the future.

But----------lots of things have changed, and to some extent has forced some change in us. No, we don't plan everything 6 months out. In fact, for a 10 night trip we only want no more than 4 ADR's. I wait until about 6 weeks from our trip then make our ressies - usually only takes a few times to get the restaurants and times we want - refuse to plan any farther out than that (with exception of resort plans)

Other than those plans, our trips are relaxed 'go with the flow', and we take each day (sometimes hour) as we like it - have hoppers (or AP's) and go wherever our fancy strikes us. We do get occasional fast passes if it is busy.

We are not stressed there because of planning, and when we leave we are relaxed from our vacation.

So, in some respects, our vacations at Disney have not changed much since we started going in early 70's with the opening of MK. We are still kids there (raised our kids there also) and enjoy the pixiedust:

I know this was probably just a spelling mistake, but I hear the word differenty LOL!!!! (Even though it's not a real word) Especially when you used it in that context. It made it that much more funny to me. ;)

No, here comes the "I'm not upset" post.

It's only a vacation destination, and I think Disney's making a huge PR blunder in the way they're rolling this out.

But I'm not "upset."

LOL!! Woops! Glad I could inadvertently add a bit of humor. :goodvibes

What happened is a massive increase in attendance (11-12 million per year in the Magic Kingdom in the early 1990s, 17 million plus per year in the last few years). It's a lot easier to happily wait in line when the lines were half as long as they are now! The negativity comes from Disney deciding to fix a problem (the fast pass system) that wasn't broken, and doing so by beta testing a system on people spending enormous sums of money expecting a predictable vacation experience. Now, you may remember the halcyon days of small children waiting happily in line for an hour or more, but I have a three year old, and I haven't ever met one myself who is delighted to just absorb the disney magic atmosphere as she stands in a que for an hour. Obviously no line is a requirement-- every guest has the choice to just not wait. But the previous fast pass system, with unenforced return times, let our family ride our favorite rides only waiting 10-15 minutes tops. The new system requires young kids to spend far far more time in line if they want to ride their favorite attractions. I'm not going to change it, but I don't have to love it.

Note, this is my first post. I have been learning and lurking, but this "why can't you all just be happy-- what is WRONG with you?!" attitude drove me to write.

That makes sense

I see nothing wrong with a bit of waiting and just being together but I'm not going to do it over and over again for 60 minute+ stretches of time. If you don't mind that I'm happy for you but I do.

I also dislike not knowing what will be happening when we go next month. I'm not even a super planner but I feel a bit off kilter by all of the uncertainty.

I would suggest just skipping over the threads where this is discussed. I don't see them as so negative except for a few exceptions because most people on both sides of the fence just appear to be discussing strategy and what the future might hold. If that bothers you, just don't take part and certainly don't start another thread where the same will probably happen.

I plan on going on my vacation in 26 days to WDW and enjoy myself no matter what happens! If my FP+ gets messed up for any reason I will wait in line. If my MB don't work for some reason I will get it fixed. I am looking so forward to this vacation I will not be stressed out!

I don't get it either.

I just got back and did everything without waiting in any lines more than about 10 mins. Yes, I did time it. I didn't do anything much different than I always did in the past - arrived at a park at rope drop, did the super headliners right away, hopped to another park in the afternoon and did things there without a wait.

The only thing I really did differently was I made my FP+ arrangements - and it was awesome! Sometimes I made them the night before. Sometimes the day of. And I was able to change the times the day of when I wanted to.

I was able to see Wishes twice from an uncrowded spot in the park, when I had never seen it from inside the MK before because I didn't want to deal with the crowds. I was able to see the Main Street Electrical Parade from an uncrowded spot in the hub right in front of the castle. Again, I would never stay for it before because I didn't want to deal with the crowds and someone bringing their kid up at the last minute and trying to force them in front of me or literally between my legs! Yes, that happened once to me at Illuminations!

So I love all the changes. I think some are just over-reacting because of "change". Sometimes change is good - just accept it.

It sound like you were there during a quiet time. I would definitely agree that it's wise to go then if you can.

I'm going in 32 days and going to have the same mentality. I think what will annoy me the most, and what I'm most stressed out about is not being able to get into my room, or the park. I've read so many horror stories about people having to go back and forth for hours to try to get into their rooms, and constantly having to wait over an hour in line at Guest Services every time they go to a park because their MB will not allow them to get into the park. I can roll with the punches for everything else, BUT that. :-)

Take them for what they're worth though. I'm not doubting people had those experiences, but I think they are on the rare side.

My father's MB never worked to get him in the park. It always turned blue. The CM right there at the gate rushed over with their little device and checked something, then said "ok, you're good".

I don't know what the problem was. They said maybe it was the way he held his finger on the scanner.... but I never had to get out of line and go to GR to have anything fixed. They fixed it right there within seconds.
