Why is everyone automatically a good parent and a good driver?

I've been thinking about this for a while... These two areas seem to be beyond reproach in every way. And if someone does dare to suggest otherwise, all heck breaks loose. Why is that?

Please note, I am neither a parent (perfect or otherwise) nor a perfect driver. However, my mother was both. ;):rotfl:

I am neither a perfect parent nor a perfect driver. Which can be easily illustrated when I drive down the highway at 70mph talking on my phone, screaming at my kids and changing the DVD at the same time. ;):lmao:

Well, we are good parents because we are told by pretty much everyone we come across how well behaved our kids are, how fun our kids are to be around, how responsible our kids are, etc.

Driving--well no accidents or tickets in 30+ years of driving either means I am lucky or a good driver.

I'm good not perfect. I've gotten speeding tickets and let ds fall down the stairs.

I think we are just born that way ;)

While I may profess to being a perfect parent and a perfect driver in my own mind, I'm smart enough to keep my delusions to myself.

But I bet he learned to be more careful on the stairs, right :thumbsup2. How is this bad parenting unless you pushed him because he was 3 and having a major temper tantrum :lmao:.

Or if he was TOT, and she was too busy pulling the cooler of beer.

OK, I'm not a parent, but my favorite falling-down-the-steps story goes to my great-niece Bethani. As a toddler, she tumbled down the carpeted steps to her grandmother's carpeted basement (my SIL). Beth looked at everyone with wide eyes and said "Wow - did you see THAT!!!!". :lmao: (Beth is currently in high school & doing very well.)

Driving? George Carlin said it best:

“Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?”

I'm certain I would never win the mother of the year award. Try as I might, I'm far from perfect and have run into situations with my children that I have not been prepared to face. I've made poor choices on more than 1 occasion when dealing with those problems.

As for driving, my 17 year old daughter and my 18 year old son can run rings around me where it's concerned. I am a flat out horrible driver. My son is really a fantastic driver. It just came natural to him. About a year ago, I was driving my son's GF home. Right out front of her house, the police pulled me over, or so they thought anyway. ROFLMAO I actually stopped because that's where she lived. Cop gets out and tells me it appeared that I was trying to evade them. I just shut my mouth and let him speak. Truth be told, I wasn't trying to evade them at all. They gave me too much credit because in all honesty, I DID NOT NOTICE THEM TILL I STOPPED THE CAR.

Is your mother beyond reproach?

beyond reproach
So good as to preclude any possibility of criticism

Tell her Thanksgiving is off from exhaustion.:lmao:

They're also ALL good tippers. ;)

As for parenting, I just do the best I can. It helps that I have a really great kid. As for driving, I am a very careful driver. I don't speed. I don't drive crazy (odd for Florida, but I am not the norm). I've been driving for 41 years. I've never had a ticket or an accident. I hope this doesn't jinx me!

Of course my mother is beyond reproach! What are you suggesting, that she isn't perfect?! What nonsense! According to other threads I ought to box your ears for even contemplating that my mother is anything less than exemplary! Or perhaps a good yelling is in order, preferably in a public venue... I'm afraid your comments go beyond a mere frowning so, frankly, it's you and me by the bike racks after school!

I just do my best but I'm not a perfect parent or a perfect driver. But then who is?

Im a decent parent... At least.. all four of my kiddos are still alive, so that has to count for something, right? As far as driving goes?? I am a horrid driver. HORRID. I HATE driving. I only feel comfortable in small cars. I have a minivan.. Need I say more? :lmao: I never drive.. unless I ABSOLUTELY have to. My dh really doesnt like it when I drive.

Strange question. WHO said everyone was a stellar parent/driver?!:confused3We rake people over the coals here every single day and tell them they are ****ty parents (maybe not in those words).....and I've never seen anything about everyone being great drivers.
