Why is Donald always changing?

I know throughout the years since Disney theme parks first opened, the character's looks have changed. but I noticed one that has changed SO many times over the recent years: Donald Duck. Why can't they just keep one look?

We've noticed that too. Another character who's changed quite a bit is Pooh. I don't have the pictures, but when I was a child, he was very plump with a hunny pot on his head and he's changed at least 2 other times since then.

I think that every time they change the characters, they always look better! The new Pooh looks alot more like the cartoon than the Pooh with the giant head and honey pot on top. And Donald looks more true to the cartoon as well. I'm sure Disney is always looking for new ways to see what appeals to the masses and updating characters based on the latest cultural trends. Have you seen the Sanrio "Hello Kitty"-like Pooh and Minnie stuffed toys at Japan in Epcot and World of Disney? Pretty cool!

Sanapunk,

I know what you mean... it may seem trivial to other people, but I was pretty disappointed when Donald went from the "light blue" costume to his current darker blue. I think his eyes were cuter in the "light blue" one, too. I guess I just don't like change very much when it comes to the Disney characters! :rolleyes2

It is interesting you say that about Pooh. I was just looking thru old pictures from our trip to WDW in 1985... and there was Pooh with the Honeypot on his head. IF I can scan it, I can post it later this week...

Isn't that stuff adorable? I think it called 'Cuties' or something. We bought my daughter the pink CD carrying case so she can take her favorite discs in the car. It makes me smile everytime I see those little faces. :goodvibes

I guess the question is like many others about Donald: (a) why can't Donald fly; (b) how come he has three nephews but no known brother or sister; and (c) and what are they trying to say about sailors by having him wear a sailor's top but no pants?

I totally agree.

Gotta stay with the times, too.

Are these Donalds from different themed parks? Maybe different park, different look?

I don't know how far apart the pictures are, but I remember Donald having cuter eyes when I went as a kid, around 1990-ish. One of the faces makes him look kind of old. : /

also, does anyone else think the older white rabbit, although not as accurate looking, was a whole lot cuter?

Donald has a sister named Dumbella! :) That's where his nephews come from.

For the record, I like the current Donald best. He looks the most like the cartoon.

ahh you're right! it's his "twin sister" della "dumbella" duck.

I had NO idea Donald Duck had a sister. Is that for real or just a joke? And if it is for real how come she is not a regular in anything Disney has made?

I know the characters change over the years... but the "cuties" stuff is not cute at all. It's taking a Mickey shape and jamming through a Hello Kitty press. Next thing you know, all the characters will be drawn like Sailor Moon or Pokemon!

:earseek: I did not know Donald had a sister either, when did she first appear and was she in many cartoons?
