why is DLP made to feel like the poor relation?

where is DLP made to feel inferior to WDW?

i have been coming on this board now for a little while and not one person has raved about it unlike the people on the WDW boards.

I know that nothing is perfect but people just love WDW - why do i get the feeling that people who go to to DLP just don't love/enjoy it as much?

i just get the feeling that it isn't even in the same league as the american magic kingdom parks.

it is almost as if DLP isn't the 'real' disney. and there isn't the 'magic' there.

i am going for the first time next week and i really hope that i enjoy it.

That is a very interesting question!

I think that this board is actually very positive about DLP, albeit quietly so!! I also think that people tend to rave more about WDW because of all the other benefits you get from visiting Florida! The great weather, the bargain shopping, the other nearby attractions.

Or maybe we are just being over cautious, as we get quite a lot people posting here who have already visited WDW and are thinking of taking their first trip to DLP for a quick Disney fix. If we over hype the place we run the risk of disappointing people, who are expecting another WDW type holiday.

I love DLP and I always really enjoy my trips there. I also love WDW, but I don't tend to rave about either of them - I'm not that sort of person.

Don't worry you'll have a great time. Even our trip when the troops took it in turn to be ill was still great

Well I positively love it - in fact I'm nore excited about our fourth trip there next year, than the possible (in planning) one for WDW the year after. I'm only even considering WDW because the kids are getting bored of the rides at DLP, although we'll have a couple of new ones to try out next year and we haven't done Buzz yet.

I absolutely love DLRP too and I was initially very reluctant to go thinking it would never measure up to WDW. Well, we all fell in love with the place and definitely feel the Disney magic there.

We are going back to Florida next year and are equally excited about that too but that is not just excitement over Disney as we are going to Universal for the first time and spending some days at the Gulf Coast which will also be a first. There is so much going on/to do in Florida which has nothing to do with Disney but my late uncle used to visit WDW regularly since it first opened - I can still remember him saying there was only enough to do for a one/two day visit in the early years!

I also think a lot of people who treat DLRP as the poor relation have yet to visit.

I am sure you will have a great holiday, just don't compare with WDW and love it for itself.

Well I LOVE DLP!

I think part of it is the fact most people only go to DLP for a short break. However I don't think this board has as many 'regular' members so thats probably why. There's plenty of people who love it.

I definately feel the magic when i'm there... it's a totally different world

I agree with all the different comments made here. It is our fist trip to DLP and I have to say I am excited but reserving myself for the dissapointment. I have spoken to so many people (not this site) they all say once you have been to WDW you will be bored at DLP. Thier not what shall I say disney fans.

The reason why I love WDW is the weather, I am sorry when I say this no offence in what I am saying but the fact everything is in english, food, Epcot, other places to see i.e US. No people cutting into lines or smoking. Thats the main reason for me. Also I want to move out to Orlando when I qualify so I feel kind of biase in a way about WDW.

WDW was opened first many people have been and as soon as DLP opened it will unfortunately be judged against WDW. Its up to us to enjoy DLP for the park it is and try not to compare, but honestly I feel if you have been to WDW it will be hard not to.

I am sure we will both have a fantastic time as soon as we see Mickey and Minnie. Try to stay positive and put all the negative comments at the back of your mind, if you keep thinking of the negatives you will end up dissapointed.

Interesting question....

Back in 1992 I was in the UK, and had rec'd free passes to the opening of (then) EuroDisney. I made some attempts to book a room etc but frankly back then things were poorly organized and the trip didn't happen. I will admit that I didnt't try hard enough, but the park also wasn't enough of a draw.

Fast forward to 1994, when I went to Disneyland in California after a business trip - my first time to a Disney park as an adult. The short 8 hour visit had me hooked, and I spent the next two years visiting DL as often as I could - up to 6x a year.

In 1996 I took the plunge and booked my first trip to WDW. Well, I was so disappointed! The parks didn't have the charm of DL, it was hot and humid even in winter, it would take 3 weeks to see everything, etc etc etc. Now after about 50 more visits I have learned to love WDW for the things that make it special, just as I love DL for the things which make it special.

I think that is the key - appreciating each park for what it has to offer, and not making comparisons to another park. I already have a tenative trip for fall 2010 book marked for the semi-scheduled opening of Disneyland Shanghai. I am looking forward to seeing how Disney manages to incoroprate the local culture and heritage and combine it with the magic of Disney...

Well I'm going to rave

I LOVE disneyland paris . It is a fab place to visit and has all the Disney magic but is much more compact. I love that you can walk from the hotels to the park , that the park is just so pretty and that you can be a member of the shareholders club and have a sweet treat and a drink and then enter through your own special door into the park and that you can buy annual passes so you HAVE to go more than once a year

I love it so much I spend a great part of my evenings on a couple of these forums talking to other people who do too and planning my next trips.

I guarantee you will find something about it you will love. But please remember it isn't meant to be WDW it's a park in it's own right and should be appreciated in it's own way not compared.

Above all enjoy it !!

I agree with the other comments on this post. I really enjoy my visits to DLP - not really much chance of my getting to visit any of the other parks but I can't imagine they are hugely 'better' than ours.

My only regret is that I don't live nearer a Eurostar station, (the 200 mile drive is a bit off putting), if I did I'd be over there at least once a month, daytrips, weekends I wouldn't be able to help myself, how do people in Kent resist the temptation ?

As a family, we LOVE DLP!!!

Perhaps because we went to DLP first before WDW, or maybe just because DLP is really special in its own right.

We absolutely feel the magic there - especially at Christmastime when the park and hotels are just beautiful. I would take DLP at Christmas over WDW without any celebration going on. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved WDW too, as well as Universal, but DLP is in no way the poor relation to me.

Disneyland Park to Magic Kingdom as a direct comparison is more beautiful, although there's not quite as much in the Paris version as regards attractions, there's still more than enough to keep us going over and over again, and many of the same attractions are better and newer at DLP.

I had loads of people tell me that after a trip to WDW, I wouldn't want to go back to DLP (some who had never even been to DLP). They were so wrong - I still love DLP and can't wait to go back in December.

I think Bexx was right in that people on this board are slightly cautious because of the amount of people who have already been to WDW, and DLP can in no way compare to the scale and experience offered in Florida. In its own way though, DLP can be better because you are not overwhelmed, and as a short break you won't beat it.

Disneyland Paris will always be extra special to me because it was my first Disney park and I def' have a massive soft spot for it!

I think it appears WDW get tons more love from these boards because WDW takes alot more planning than a trip to DLRP

That is a really good point Jodie. As we can't afford to go to WDW every year we will plan our time there to get the maximum out of our trip. Whereas as DLRP is more accessible both pricewise and distancewise we can be a lot more relaxed in our planning. It doesn't mean we get any less excited about it though!
