Why interest in a specific resort?

I am currently researching the club and I am having a hard time understading why you have to purchase interest in any one property instead of just purchashing points. They say you can use the points any time any where so why do you have to tie them to a specific resort?

Points at your "home" resort can be used to book a room 11 months out. To stay at any other club resort, you must wait until 7 months out. This makes a big difference when you want to stay at a specific resort at a busy time.

You are buying a real estate interest. A certain % of a specific resort. You get a deed, just like any other piece of property.

Although DVC tries to avoid use of the term "timeshare", this really is a timeshare. So, when you make a purchase, you are buying a piece of the resort. DVC's point system makes use of your timeshare more flexible.

Yes, I understand that - it (IMO) just doesnt go hand and hand with the stay any where any time sales pitch.

We read the dreams book and viewed the CD earlier today and that seemed to be a huge selling point. However after reading a few threads here the last hour it seems your best option is to stay at just one resort - your home, and that any time any where is misleading.

Obviously any time any where isnt going to work if the place if booked, but I would think the same could happen at your home resort as well. If it were truly any time any where I would think it would be best to simply own interest in points and not a specific property. Possibly they need to eliminate or de-emphasize that particular selling point.

Correct, booking at even your home resort 1 month out at a peak season may not get you anything, but being able to book at your home resort at 11 months vs 7 months anywhere else, should mean getting what or at least near what you want.

I'd give 'em a break. If they never did anything questionable they couldn't rightly call themselves timeshare sellers.
