Why I'm Scared of an Obama Presidency

Another thing my FIL sent me recently, just a couple days ago, was that if we vote for Obama we're going to lose the English language back to Ebonics and ghetto slang. Seriously. My hairdresser, a beautiful women, leaned down to me doing my hair last week and told me she is voting for McCain only bc she's afraid that her son is going to college and she was afraid he would be taught by gay professors in college, who are going to teach him some kind of crazy subversive ideas or something else, I don't know, I didn't get it. I almost fell out of my chair. Little does she know my mother's cousin, who is also my godfather, is a professor in a college and is gay and I've never heard him utter anything subversive. Its like we've gone mad.

Respectfully, tinkerdorabelle, the descriptive value of personal anecdotes to larger issues is typically quite small. Your hairdresser's behavior, while ignorant and ill-informed, does nothing to illustrate the merits or the faults of a McCain candidacy. Your husband's experiences at his workplace does not illuminate the value or the harm of labor unions on a national scale. And your experience in your work place only tells us something about that particular business at that particular time, not about all businesses all the time. The madness is in believing that you are at the mercy of the government's largesse for a successful life, and that the government can fix your problems at home. It can't. It can only get out of the way and allow you to achieve your highest potential unencumbered by restraints on your natural rights and liberties.

As far as the what the Democrats have done for the middle class, whenever they're in office, I live better, how about that for facts. When Clinton who wasn't perfect, was in office, I lived a better life. I went on more vacations, I NEVER worried about money. As far as candidates throwing out empty promises, I agree they do, but I have to put the trust somewhere. What is the republican party going to do for me, name one single solitary thing, they haven't even promised me anything. McCain doesn't even think there is a problem. Oh I know, put the gays back in the closet, like I said I'm for rights for all people. Also here in NY a large utility company was going on strike a couple weeks back and our Democratic Senator Paterson stepped in to help the union and avoid the strike, hows that for what Democrats do for me. They ended negotiating a good contract, and I know about this personally. My FIL is voting for McCain bc he thinks Obama is a terrorist and the possible Anti-Christ and I'm not joking. I get no McCain propaganda e-mails at all, maybe its possible others are, but this is from personal experience, not like the ones about Obama.

And you think this had more to do with Clinton than with people like Michael Dell and Bill Gates whose genius created numerous jobs in this country during the 90s.

This Thread is based on FEAR!!

Fear in knowing Obama has so much more insight on how to solve the problems of the day. Fear in knowing an African-American can lead the country. Fear in him inspiring change. Republicans know they have no such candidate in their ranks. So they have to disparage Obama.

No this isn’t surprising at all, Just a shame in this day and age!

Just think about the mindset of the right side. Obama was an accomplished student and community rights lawyer, he is a successful author, a successful US Senator, the presumptive Democratic candidate for POTUS. To the many uneducated, on the right side, this is scary stuff: An educated BLACK MAN…Run away!!!!!

In the old days, education and accomplishment were things to be cheered and rewarded. Now the right side is frightened about the very same education and accomplishment.

Why is it that staying uninformed and oblivious to the reality of our country is considered a good thing to the right side?

sorry, I don't think Obama has the insight on how to solve the problems of the day....

Oddly, it is the OS, and Obama himself that keep bringing race into this.

I for one, could give a rat's patootie what color the man's skin is. (BTW, some in the "black" community don't consider him "black" because he is of mixed heritage.)

This is coming from a McCain supporter that voted for Alan Keyes (an educated BLACK MAN) against GWB. Too bad he wasn't able to beat Obama for the IL Senate seat.

And, since you're the one bringing up the "scariness" of a "black man" running for POTUS, I'd bet that the conservative McCain supporters, like me, who have many disagreements with his policies, would be MUCH MORE supportive of him if Condi Rice (an educated BLACK WOMAN) or Michael Steele (an educated BLACK MAN) were his running mate.

It's not the man's color that we have issues with, it's the content of his character, his lack of experience, his extremely liberal policies, his arrogance, his lack of patriotism, his pessimism about America's past, the people whom he chooses to be close to, etc, etc.

But, keep trying to race bait. It's just making your candidate look less and less qualified.

Am I being accused of race baiting?

I say its Very telling that "race" is the only thing that was pull out of my post!!

How about..

1.Fear in him inspiring change.
2. Republicans know they have no such candidate in their ranks.
3.Obama was an accomplished student
4. community rights lawyer,
5.he is a successful author,
6.a successful US Senator,
7.the presumptive Democratic candidate for POTUS

Something must have been blocking your ability to see all of those things.

To the many educated on the Right this is scary stuff.
I am unclear on what being a successful author has to do with anything.
If he wasn't the presumptive Dem Candidate we wouldn't be discussing him at all, so what exactly is the point of this statement.
A successful US Senator?? What exactly did he do in his 14 months as a Senator before he started running for president that would lable him as successful?

I don't give a crap out the color of his skin, his proposed policies, his liberal beliefs, and the people he has previously choosen to to give him guidence. Those things scare the crap out of me.

1. I don't want the change that he stands for. And no, I don't mean a minority running the country - I could care less.
2. I think we DO have many Senators with at least 143 days of Senate experience.
3. So was Bush, and I know what you think about him.
4. Still not a reason he would make a good POTUS. Actually, some may think him being a lawyer as a negative characteristic. :rotfl:
5. So is Tori Spelling, but she shouldn't be POTUS.
6. See #2
7. So? What do you want for this one - a cookie?

I would love to see Steele as McC's running mate. He would be an excellent choice, an oddly enough, my feelings have nothing to do with his race.:goodvibes

Isn't that funny, did you see the news today? A lot going on today. The whole country thinks we're in trouble, the worst its been in decades! So your point above is ridiculous. Judge says White House Aides not suppoena proof. Bush's administration trying to claim immunity and they lost. Hmmm, wonder why innocent people would try so hard to be immune. Rove is on Fox News now, please. And EXXON MADE RECORD PROFITS THIS QUARTER, another newsworthy story today. Bush's ties to the oil is undeniable. Lets hopefully get these republicans out of office, stop this fearmongering propaganda against Obama and the Democratic party and save this country.
