Why I will never do a room request again!

We are staying at the Poly for one night only before our Wonder Cruise. We are only booking Garden View as well. I decided since it was just one night that I would not make any requests...who knows, maybe we'll get lucky! If not, no biggie - I booked CG for Wishes viewing as a backup!:thumbsup2

I really enjoyed your story and am so glad it worked out for you!:goodvibes

I prefer not to room request. I like leaving Disney a little room to make magic. :cool1:

I have stopped making room requests (except I do have my TA note that we would love an early check-in if available) and I have never been more pleased. :thumbsup2

Thanks for your post! I, too, after our visit last month have decided to stop making room request because we have not been too lucky with those. Last month we asked for a particular building at POR and did not get it and I was sooo disappointed- we checked in at 830 am and our room was not available until 3pm (they were able to tell us what building we were in at this time) and I let it affect my time at the park. When we finally got to our room I was so happy!(and mad at myself for pouting). It was so peaceful and quiet and had a great view of the quiet pool and it was a corner room! Couldn't have been more perfect! Didn't hear any noise the whole week we were there! I will let fate decide for me from now on! Our next trip we plan on staying at Poly so maybe we will get lucky like you did!

But did you get to see the parking lot, OP?

If you didn't, I'd be looking for the address of the Poly, so I could them a piece of my mind. The Poly CM shows you a parking lot view on the map, and you end up with some view of a bunch of minarets across a lake!

:)

Seriously, it's REALLY REALLY difficult to get a bad view at the Poly. Even those rooms that might have a glimpse of the parking lot would have their own good qualities, like being close to the GCH, the monorail, the TTC, etc.

That's a great surprise, though, for a "garden view" room. It's why we went with garden view last time we stayed at the Poly. We didn't want to pay the freight for a lagoon view room, when we could see the lagoon just fine from our garden view room.

I am also going to stop trying to make room requests! This year for POP I requested 60's ground floor facing pool, and got 70's 2nd floor rear of building. Do they even read these things?? We liked where we ended up anyway! Next year I'm bouncing back at CSR and only doing "water view" & Just hoping for the best.

We don't make specific room requests either any more. On our last trip (June 2006) at WL I had reserved a standard room with only one request and that was not to overlook the dumpster. Well we arrived and the CM looked at the computer and excused himself. He came back and stated we had already been scheduled for an upgrade to a woods view but none were available right then and he had spoken to his manager and upgraded us again to a fourth floor courtyard view for our entire stay(10 days):yay: . On top of that the floor had just been renovated! :cheer2: What a way to begin our vacation. So from now on unless it is for a very busy time of year we will keep our requests to a minimum and let the pixie dust rule:wizard: .

Gosh you have a wonderful point....Disney Magic, my problem is that we stay at the BC and I love to SIT on the balcony and eat breakfast or read and if I do not request then I am afraid that I will not get that. Now with that being said, the beginning of our stay this time is comped b/c of a wedding fiasco and I have been concerned about it, so maybe it won't be all bad...you guys have given me hope. Just as long as I do not end up in a smelling like smoke room!

Alli-You can always ask for a change if your room smells like smoke. I certainly would.

I've not stayed at the BC, but have visited, and it is lovely! Hope to stay there someday! :goodvibes

I was thinking about sending a room request for our 2 night stay at POR in December. After reading all these posts I will just let the cardds fall where they way & see what happens

I was the victim of a passive-aggressive CM while checking into ASMo on 9/7. And it was all sparked by a room request!:rotfl:

CM: You are on the 3rd floor in Toy Story, even though I see here you requested 1st floor Dalmatians.

Me: Oh, that's fine. I just have a question about the railings on the higher floors. How high are they? I just want to make sure there is no potential for my son to fall accidentally! (I said this with a smile and felt quite sure she would understand a mom wanting a tiny bit of reassurance. I was wrong!:rotfl: )

CM: Well, you can't leave him unattended!!!!! (This was said very rudely, and I was really taken aback by her tone.)

Me: I would never leave my son unattended under any circumstances. I was merely asking if the railings were high enough to prevent an accident if he were to break away from me.

CM: Are you traveling ALONE???? (She then peered over to the TV area to see if I had, in fact, left my child alone. @@)

Me: No.

CM: Well, I will SEE if we can CHANGE your ROOM, then!

Me: That's really not necessary. I'm sure the room will be fine. (At this point I had NO idea why she could not simply answer my question about the railings, but figured it would be okay and I'd just let it go.)

CM: <turned her back on me and had a phone conversation with someone else> <turned back to me> Your room is now changed to first floor Dalmatians and you can't change it back!!!

Me: <literally stunned silence>

CM: You DID say you felt quite certain your child would JUMP from the balcony!!! (I swear to you, she really DID say these exact words!)

Me: <now my tone changes from trying-to-keep-my-cool to I-am-losing-patience, lol> I am really getting irritated by your unnecessary and unprovoked rudeness.

CM: Oh, I'm sure your son is very well-behaved and would be fine on the higher floors, but better safe than sorry! (She said this with a genuine change in tone...and I think it's because she began to see how outrageous her comments were and that I might report her.)

I said nothing more but accepted my paperwork from her. She made a few more "helpful" comments but it was very clear she was trying to make up for her previous attitude. I have NO idea what sparked her to be so very rude to me. I was fine with the 3rd floor, really, and felt I made that clear. At no point did I express disappointment over not getting my room request (I actually thought Toy Story was preferred so that would be an upgrade--is that correct?) or ask to be moved. I only wanted the smallest bit of reassurance about the railings. The kicker is that of course the railings are much too high for a toddler to fall over them accidentally. I saw that for myself the moment we stepped out of the lobby. Had she simply told me this, I would have been 100% satisfied with that answer and appreciated her courtesy. Instead, she took the opportunity to work out her hostility on me. Maybe she had a really bad day at work (this was late at night) or maybe she had personal problems. Maybe she is used to people being nasty about not receiving their room requests???:rotfl: In any event, I did consider reporting her abject rudeness, but decided just to let it go. It was truly the WORST treatment I've ever received from any CM on any trip, and unfortunately it was my very first Disney experience of this trip. Rest of the trip was great, though!:cloud9:

I will now sit back and wait for the DIS to flame me for causing the entire ruckus!:rolleyes1

I am probably done with room requests, too. Not worth the trouble!:lmao: And if I ever see this particular CM again, I will walk the other way!:headache:

What's sad is that she clearly had 1st floor Dalmatians available, noticed that you wanted it, and still decided not to give it to you. I would think that if I were a CM, even if I were in a bad mood, I'd want to grant guests' requests when possible just to avoid any hassles.

I requested the fourth floor odd numbered rooms at WL because I went off detailed info from the 2007 Unofficial Guide to WDW.
Now I am so worried that these are in fact too restricitive and might call to have our requests simplified or deleted altogether. However now I read that the fourth floor has recently been renovated. Certainly other areas have been as well, correct? Arghhhh...I wish I could check out several rooms upon check in but that's not the way of the world. I guess I've become a "sampler" (anyone see Curb Your Enthusiasim?).
GO PHILLIES!!!!!!!!

Wow! Great luck! I decided (prior to reading your post) that I am not doing any room requests either! We are staying at CSR for the first time and everyone has a different opinion of which section is better... to me, it's fantastic just be able to make another trip and to be able to afford a moderate this time around!

I was the victim of a passive-aggressive CM while checking into ASMo on 9/7. And it was all sparked by a room request!:rotfl:

The last two trips we made to WDW, we stayed at the ASMo, and although we never experienced anything like THAT, we just got so fed up with the check-in & check-out process that we decided to upgrade this time around! I can't believe that CM was so rude! I wonder if they use this resort to train new CM's and that's why the staff checking people are always so non-Disney? I swear on everything Holy that we went in May 2006 it took me 30 minutes to explain to the girl at the counter what a roll-away bed was. She kept asking me if I meant railings for a crib :confused3 And don't even get me started on the refrigerator.... She tried to tell me that I couldn't have one unless it was for storing medicine. I said "no, it would be FREE if I was storing medicine, but since I'm not it will cost $10 per night” (or whatever it was). She literally argued with me about this for another 10 minutes until another CM heard what she was saying and went to get the manager for me. When we went back in December, there was a line to the door of the lobby (13 groups ahead of us...yes I counted) and it took us almost an hour to check in because there were only 3 people checking guests in. But there 5 others standing behind the desk all chatting with each other! Finally someone complained and they are started working but Lord I thought I never get out of that line! And checking out was no quicker....

And just to answer you question, Toy Story, Fantasia, and Dalmations are all "preferred" Fantasia for the proximity to the pool, Dalmations for the pool and the lobby/cafeteria, and Toy Story for the theme. We stayed on the first floor of Dalmations in December - all the way around the back of the building, and it was GREAT! No noise from the pool construction or traffic to and from the lobby and yet right next to the main building!

How cool! Glad you had some pixie dust on your trip! :wizard:

We didn't request a particular longhouse on our stay at the Polynesian; I just hoped for the best.

Boy, was I surprised at check-in. The CM showed us on the map where our room was and said we were in the Hawaii longhouse. Realizing what that meant, I was like - "Um, I just booked a garden view room." She said, "You've been upgraded." When she turned to get our key cards, I mouthed to my DH - "That's concierge!!" I thanked her and was super excited. Sure, our garden view was blocked by a tree, but what a great surprise! The concierge lounge was awesome.

I was thinking the same thing, some want the first floor to not deal with taking luggage upstairs or in a elevator. What's up with having the request available and then not granting it?:confused3 It has worked both ways for me, I have had all of my requests met, or none of them, including a King bed at Wilderness Lodge. That one really shocked me. We arrived at a decent early afternoon hour too. They said, "none available."
