Why I may choose Pop Century

I was wanting to rent points to stay at OKW next year the night before our cruise but now I really think I will be going with Pop Century. With us most likely flying in on the earliest flight possible due to being able to use our flying miles for a one way ticket down, it would be nice to be able to get into a room as earliest as possible. And with Pop having over 1800 standard rooms, this is where I feel that I have the best chance of that happening, as long as we put first available on the reservation. Am I wrong on this? I know its not certain but it could happen.

Generally speaking, DVC rooms are not ready as early as regular rooms. So a non-dvc would probably give you a better chance. I've had great luck getting a room early at POP.

Okay someone correct me if I’m way off in my thinking, but aren’t Disney resorts at or close to capacity majority of the time, meaning the regardless of a resorts size you’d have similar chances getting an early room at any resort?

Well, my personal experience has been that I rarely get a DVC room before 4pm. I have gotten a non DVC room as early as 5am (although I would guess it was unoccupied the night before) and typically get it by late morning. I think the DVC rooms take longer to clean because of the kitchen area. Occupancy would play into it though.

In my last two visits, december 2019 and January 2020, my rooms were NOT ready by 4 PM. In December at AS Sports, my room was ready (according to my text) at about 6 PM, and in January at POFQ, it was around 5:30 or so.

In all my dvc trips (over a dozen) I have only waited for a room once and that was when I didn’t like the initial location of our room (across the hotel at kidani from our group). I do early check in and let them know when I’m landing. I also do t go too crazy with requests to open up more possibilities

Well I know it is a better shot than at a DVC. I have gotten into my DVC visits around 2:00, all of them. I once got in at POFQ at 9:30 in the morning. But it is all by chance.

I thought that you were going to say that the reason you chose Pop was the Skyliner. :)

I think luck is a factor here for sure. I wouldn’t select a hotel with this as the main reason. If you wanted Pop in general and you’d still be happy with that night at Pop even if you have to wait on a room then yeah, go for it!

Personally I’d probably take my chances with OKW for the ease of not moving after one night. Are you heading to the parks that day? Just making sure you know you can leave your stuff with bell services and go about your day.

No just staying at Disney one night before we cruise the next day. Ya, I would like to stay somewhere I haven't yet. And I do want to ride the skyliner.

Oh I totally read it as the night before OKW!

In that case, it makes so much more sense to take the opportunity to try Pop.

I hear the newly redone rooms are really nice. I’m staying at Pop for my trip this summer as I’ve finally been priced out of CBR. Cautiously optimistic as I’ve heard great things!

They do look nice. It has been a very long time since we stayed at a value, but I am up for it. I thought about going back to where it all started, ASMusic, but I want to try Pop.

We did one night Pop before switching to CSR over Christmas. Room was ready at 10am, which is exactly when we said we'd arrive (got the text). At CSR we had to go to the front desk when we still hadn't gotten text at 3pm, wait in line, etc. (which I heard is common at that resort).

We didn't have park tickets that day at Pop, but it was wonderful riding the skyliner to explore. We rode it over to CBR and had a drink at the banana cabana bar while watching seagulls. Then walked over to Riveria to check that out. Rode it to Hollywood Studios (without going into the park), then over to Epcot/Beach Club where we walked around the boardwalk and visited all the shops, etc. It was one of the highlights of our trip, actually.

We got our room ready text at Pop right at 3pm last trip, but I think it was only that late because they gave us a room that connected to our parents' room, which was ready at around 10am. I usually get room ready texts in the morning when I tell them I'm arriving in the morning, even when I didn't request first available.

Yes, you are wrong with that thinking.
Number of rooms at a resort have nothing at all to do with your likelihood of getting a room early.
Pop is INCREDIBLY popular and as such, fully booked almost all the time. THAT is what controls getting a room early, as much as anything can.
That said, Pop is cheap. Pay for a room the day before. THAT will ensure you have a room. I've done that on a few occassions.

I usually stay at a value resort....and during my past few trips my room has not been ready upon my early arrival. And i always have the first flight out. So i wouldnt count on it. Be prepared in case you have to wait until 3pm.

I thought about doing just that, but our plane won't arrive until like 8:30 the next morning, so would that work?
