Why have to "homes" close to each other?

I noticed some people own at resorts that are very close to each other, like BCV and BWV. Why would you do that?

It seems to me (and maybe I'm wrong) that it would make sense that if you are going to own at different locations to have them spread out so you have more of a variety. For example, if you owned all or any combination of AKV, BCV, BLT you would have a resort in almost all corners of WDW so that you would have more options on park closeness, style etc.

Did you simply buy so close to each other because of themeing or is there another reason?

We own at BCV for SAB and at BWV for the BW view rooms.

In the case of BCV and BWV, they are two very similar resorts. However, both are relatively small resorts and both have limited availability seven months out.

BCV has SAB - which you cannot pool hop to. A lot of BWV owners who want to use SAB also own at BCVs to insure that the trips they want to use SAB for, they can.

BWV has Standard View and Boardwalk View rooms. Although its generally not difficult to get a room at the Boardwalk seven months out, it isn't always possible to get a Standard View or Boardwalk View room seven months out. The standard view rooms are a great value, and the Boardwalk View rooms have a great view. So some BCV owners who want the views at BWV own at BWVs as well to ensure that they will get the view that they want.

ETA: For the Epcot resort area fans who really like the Epcot area there may be more appeal in staying in the same location with slightly differently themed resorts than in staying way out at VAKL. For a lot of BCV/BWV owners, being walking distance to Epcot is really the main attraction - the other resort amenities are secondary.

1. Owner bought what Disney was selling at the time.

2. Owner found a contract that was a good value.

3. Owner wanted three bedroom option at BWV that is not available at BCV.

We own BWV for the standard view villas, and BCV for SAB. This very next trip will be our first stay in a BW view room, so soon, we may be like DVC Mike, owning BWV for the BW view room and BCV for SAB !

We are looking at an add-on at SSR even though we have a contract at OKW,
and these two resorts are very much alike, because with the addition of THVs at SSR we'd like to have 11 month booking advantage there as well

I think Mike nailed it. BCV = SAB and a much more youth themed resort. BWV = adult themed resort with the boardwalk and micro-brewerys, ESPN, etc. Both on the edge of Epcot, but different themes, and I can understand owning both. Though, not for us. Our kids are grown.
