Why has this board become "The eBay Board"?

well, if enough people complain and the ebay threads do become overwhelming, they can combine them and/or stick them to the top or make a separate board JUST like they've done in the Community board (like I already mention of which was ignored) with 'pixie dust' and 'well wishes' etc...

That's all I'm saying. If it does get to be a lot and stays that way, I think combining or making a new board is a great way to fix the problem.

Luckily the Community board moderators realized the 'pixie dust' threads were in overkill and were willing to separate them and not just tell everyone 'tough, just skip them if you don't want to read them'.

I don't know if its a problem here yet.

First - eBaying is a great "budget" tool and of course belongs on the Budget board (just like any other ways to save for Disney).

Second - I would love to see either one thread (or a subboard) because just like DMRick said it is simply easier to keep track of the posts.

Third - It does not bother me that there are several threads on the same subject, but I will likely miss the eBay ones if not on the main thread because I don't visit the Budget Board very much because I am not planning a trip to WDW currently (all but one of my Disney trips have been to Disneyland).

Fourth - I have no problem skipping threads that don't pertain to me or that I have no advice to offer. It only takes a matter of seconds to scroll down the page or two. I don't see what the big deal is all about.

Beings everyone is tossing their $0.02 in, I thought I'd add mine to the mix as well. While, I certainly am not interested in starting any thread about eBay personally (I have responded to a few to help answer questions from time to time), I feel that there are enough users here that value having this board as a resource. It would be very sad to take this privilege away from those users. Sure, these people can go to the eBay boards, but I believe that we all truly value each other's opinions here on The Dis, and it just makes life easier asking here. It's more than making life easier though, I think it's a source of inspiration for some and without this board, a lot of these people would simply not try it at all.

I would certainly support a board just for eBay, but if that's not a possibility, I have no problems at all skimming through the posts and reading the ones that do interest me. These threads don't bother me in the least.

I do have to agree with the poster who commented on all the sticky posts though. I will however, bypass those as well.

I don't like the idea of one thread...I don't have time to read every page of an ongoing 500 pg thread...Between working full time. taking care of DD and the house I don't have 4 hrs to read thru some of the threads out there! They become cumbersome and if you are looking for a particular answer/topic it can take forever....that is if your question gets noticed at all. For instance I had question about the Dolphin and went to that thread and it go lost in the shuffle...seemed to be the same folks talking about day to day stuff...I got like one answer to my question. If you don't want to read ebay stuff....just skip it. Otherwise I think there needs to be an ebay board!

I believe the Webmaster has been asked repeatedly to start a board just for eBay, but so far the answer has been "no."

So in the meantime, those who have a problem with all of the eBay threads will just have to take 2 seconds out of their busy schedules to scroll right past them - just like I did a few minutes ago for the numerous ticket threads..

All about tickets and prices, but not combined into one thread.. Hmmm...

That's actually no longer the case.

Starting an EBAY board is now something that is being considered by the webmaster (I was informed today), it may not be added right now, but it is NOW something that is a strong possibility for down the road.

Oh well, I've been gone for a few days so I might as well stick my two cents worth in....(and that's probably all its worth!!! :p :p )

Maybe keep it to one thread - regardless of what is being asked - feedback complaint, shipping problem etc..

1. Try to eliminate any side-tracked posts on the thread such as children getting teeth, the flu we had, job changes (I am just picking random thoughts - not picking on anyone and I have done it myself!!!). We are really bad with this on the SwanDolphin thread - we are always off on a tangent.

2. Self-monitor ourselves and if there is a good suggestion that is consistent and always valuable, email it to the person in charge of the eBay FAQ's thread. I know I brought up a couple of things when it was first set at the top and they were added into the thread. (Such as a new box source, etc). That way we aren't still repeating 6 times or looking through 123 pages of posts for the priority supply link & the shipping assistant link.

3. Refer people to the FAQ thread (nicely).

Just thoughts from the peanut gallery.................

Again I refer back to the S/D thread. It is a nightmare for a new comer and in the times I asked question I got little to no responses and if you are looking for an answer to a question who wants to go thru 100+ pages...who has time and it is incredibly frustrating! The only folks that benefit from such threads are the ones who check it daily...and I bet if you go to any of those threads today it has more to do with what their kid/dog did last nite than anything revolving around S/D...it is incredibily frustrating!!!!

But I don't see that happening with the eBay thread. I check often and if someone else hasn't answered a question, I try to. Of course someone may not have the answer, and so it may not be answered at all. If you do ask a question, it only seems fair to the person who took the time to answer it, that you check back often to see if it was answered..not let it scroll 100 messages and get frustrated or miss the answer. No one gets paid to guide newbies through eBay..so there is no obligation to answer questions. We do it because we enjoy helping others. You may have to read back a few pages, but that's because others had questions/problems and are also being helped.

It also very much stays on topic. Every once in a while an OT may occur, but not often. We've become "family" and sometimes "family" strays onto an OT. If someone is hurting or otherwise feels they need to post to the "family" on the eBay board, it's so seldom, I don't see it as an intrusion, but as a friend needing to vent/talk etc.

And even if someone posted a side question on it's own thread, if you don't check often, that one will be burried.
