Why has this board become "The eBay Board"?

Does anyone else feel like every time they check out this board lately nearly half of the posts are about eBay and "what should I do about this?"

I understand that eBay is a way to make money for your trip, but maybe there should be just one thread about it? Or maybe complaints and questions about how to handle particular situations within eBay would be better placed on the eBay community boards? :teleport:

I'm not trying to offend anyone. :duck: I just wonder if maybe these questions about isolated eBay transactions are kind of pushing the boundaries of discussions on how to get the most out of your Disney Vacation for the least amount of money.

Would love to have a separate Ebay board, but DIS hasn't done that (yet!:) . For now, I would suggest just skipping threads in which you're not interested--I think that's what most people do.

Not sure why those threads bother you.

But your thread made me curious --out of the 61 threads on page 1, only 11 were about ebay.

So, as the poster above said, just skip those.

I have gotten help, and some good answers on threads like these, and they help me on my way to ebaying it to Disney.

As an EBAY seller and a DISer I must say I don't recall seeing barely anything on EBAY until the last 6 months. And, I've found many of these threads helpful.

I pretty much make my living selling on EBAY now, but I agree the Budget Board should focus on ways to do WDW on a budget.

EBAY is a way of making $$ for trips (I do it myself!!) but since it's become such a popular topic lately on this board I do agree that maybe there should be a separate board just dedicated to EBAY DiSers.

Where do we make these suggestions??

Try sending an e-mail to webmaster@wdwinfo.com .

We have been trying. Perhaps if they heard from more of you...

I agree with Beth. I think they're sick of hearing from ME! :p

I would love a separate eBay board. There used to be only questions and eBay discussion on one thread but it was sooooo hard to find because the thread is soo long. Separate questions get quicker responses and sometimes the question needs to handled immediately.

Sorry if it bothers you, we'll see what happens.

We're probably just going through a phase. For a while many of the posts on the board were Connections vouchers posts, then Hotwire Savings Club posts, etc. If you go back and look we tend to get clumps of posts when people find out about a good thing and want to discuss it. That's just the nature of the board.

A separate Auctions board might be nice but if it's here then the information can be shared. Someone who has never ebayed may perhaps become interested if they see a post here whereas if it is on a separate board they may not visit that board at all. Then they would lose out on valuable insight and information.

I vote for an ebay board!! I'm going to email the webmaster and suggest it. I love this board, and I love ebay, but I think the "deals" for disney get overshadowed by the ebay posts :)

I would rather people post just to the ebay thread..then I would only have to look in one place to answer questions. I don't think we need our own board as much as we do people posting to the original thread. The length of the thread should deter anyone, since most of us only read the end. IMO ebaying does belong on the budget board. For some, it's how they pay for the trip, and for those who haven't eBay'd, it may encourage them to try, where they may never venture over to it's own board.

I agree that the eBay stuff should stay on the Budget boards. I began eBaying my way to Disney after reading that thread. It has already helped me pay for one 4 day trip last November and will have paid for our next trip this coming August. If that thread (the eBay your way to Disney) had been on an eBay board, I NEVER would have seen it because I NEVER would have gone to the eBay board. I had absolutely no interest in eBaying. But after reading all the success stories I finally tried it.

I agree that all the eBay questions should be posted on the eBay thread. Even if you need an immediate response, people usually respond right away!

Maggie

So l see a couple of preferences here. Some that would prefer an EBay only board. Some that prefer that everyone post to the EBay thread. Some that prefer that the posts be kept separate.

We, as moderators, have the ability to merge threads into other threads. We could easily move all of the Ebay threads into the one "main" thread.

Any thoughts on this?

Also, just so that you know, the WMs have removed the 150 page limit on threads, so a thread can now go on endlessly. Would that be a problem?

I like Beth's idea about merging all the threads. Go for it!

herc.

I'm with Beth. I never understand when someone says "I posted this in a new thread, the old thread got too long". It doesn't matter how long the thread gets..you don't have to go back to the beginning. And it gets read a lot, so questions generally get read fast.

The one thing I really miss, is seeing the "second" thread have C.Ann's name as the originator. Although I have contributed, she is the one responsible for it, and I really wish her name was still listed as the thread originator. That changed when the first thread was closed, and a new one opened.

The problem with using one thread is this:

For a person with a question--if they posted on one thread/ the same thread that everyone else was posting and asking questions--it is sometimes hard to come back later and find those responses that were related to YOUR questions. You end up looking through the last 2 pages and lots of posts until you find someone who seems to have been answering your question.
It is much easier to ask a question--and then come back later and be able to click on your question and see JUST those response related to your concern.

Really----it is easier for a person to ignore the ebay threads of the budget board (if they don't want to get involved) than it is for the people w/ebay concerns to use one thread.

When I look at a discussion board, I always scroll down until a thread interests me, and then I post a reply or read responses--if I have no interest, I scroll right by---it doesn't bother me how many of those threads were on a certain subject--doesn't slow me down in the least.

If a thread can go on "endlessly" now, then I say "merge" them! I like to be as helpful as possible, but sometimes it's just a pain to click on each individual thread..

Also, I have to admit that I don't visit the 2nd eBay thread all that often anymore.. After my name was removed, I pretty much felt like my obligation to keep it running and answer as many questions as possible ended..

As for having to go back "2 pages" or so to find an answer to your post, I've found that quite helpful because I always come across something else I was wondering about.. You can never learn TOO much about ebay! ;)

I have to agree. If it wasn't for fellow Dissers I would not have started Ebaying and it has already helped with a trip to Disney. What a great budget tip in my opinion. How do I budget in a trip? Ebay your way there....perfect sense to me.
I agree too that your questions can easily get lost in a long thread. I like the idea of a separate board. Then we Ebayers can have a place to call our own and that would appease everyone. I would sure hate for there to be some uprising of Ebayer dislikers and we get shut down for having threads about it. I'm NOT saying that anyone in particular would cause such a problem, but sometimes things can get out of hand.
Just my .02 worth, but that's just the opening bid;)

I'll bid 5 cents - and say that I don't understand what the big deal is.. I loathe all the Connections threads, but I never complained about them - just didn't click on them..

This is exactly my point--I think I'm confused though--it seems like 2 posts ago--you were in support of combining all the ebay threads:confused:

I'm in support of combining them to make it easier for everyone involved and so others won't feel the need to complain about threads they could easily just pass by..

If people continue to complain, the thread could disappear totally and that wouldn't be fair to the folks who see it as a budget minded way of making their way to Disney World..

After all, this is a board about various ways of budgeting and saving money for Disney World, isn't it? If not then perhaps they should do away with all of the threads on Connections, ****bank, Entertainment Books, Disney Visa rewards, saving change, etc..

Which is also exactly why those of us who do not use the eBay threads would like to see them moved--either merged, handled on the eBay community board, or with another board on The DIS. We want to see JUST the threads about saving for Disney--not what do do about an unhappy bidder or how time to wait to post negative feedback. It's too far off the original intention of this board.

But your posts don't really BELONG here if the purpose of this board is to find ways to budget for Disney--A thread that discusses eBay does, but not several about all the different little situations you're coming upon and intricacies within your auctioning.

I also eat at home as much as possible to save money for disney. If there were 11 threads about recipes and a discussions of where to store my food backstock, how much room would be left for lowering the cost of someone else's vacation? Which I think is supposed to be the topic here.

So then you shouldn't mind scrolling through the "official eBay thread" to find the things that relate to your particular problem or posed question, right? It'd kind of be like your own little board within a board maybe.

I'm just responding to your thread, Wendyl because the thoughts on the "leave the posts" side of this discussion were pretty much summed up within your response. I hope you don't think I'm singling you out. I really did just want to get discussion started on maybe getting the eBay posts combined or moved to their own area. It's sometimes hard to tell tones of one's "voice" on a thread like this and I want to make sure that you all know I'm just calmly typing this--not pecking away like some madman on a mission! :grouphug::)
