Why get so worked up?

Might I suggest instead that those who want the healthy stuff be the people that go thru the bother of driving offsite to find their foods?
Have you forgotten that there are TONS of offsite restaurants that are more than happy to fill you on spinach soy milkshakes, eggwhite quiches and high fiber, low sodium, sugarless tofu brownies? :confused3 ;)

Disney is a vacation destination...... the word "vacation" means recess or hiatus. It's time AWAY from their usual schedule of activity which usually also means time AWAY from their usual diets.

:woohoo: Very well said!!

For the memories I make with my children and family, I'd eat cardboard for the entire trip!popcorn::[/QUOTE]

ITA! Except my posting is not about what I would eat or not eat, I personally think there are way more food options than chicken strips at WDW. However, my son would tend to disagree with that. Would it ruin our vacation, I highly doubt it. Will it make choosing places to eat more difficult, YES.

Now his experience at WDW is not about food, but I do hear weekly how much he liked them, so I guess it made an impression on him. And for him, I guess it does suck.

For those that don't understand that a picky child will be upset that they're FAVOURITE food will not be there anymore, then don't flame me, because I know how my son will react. I don't need people feeling SORRY for me.

I am just saying my DS will be disappointed. Will he get over it being at Disney? Of course. Will he have less to eat because he is soo picky? YES. Will he get over being picky? Who knows? That is his choice.

This is tongue in cheek, and only because it struck my funny bone....

It's YOUR turn to drive off site, driving off site for healthy options is something that the other side has done since Disney opened! :lmao:

(Please don't attack me - I am JUST KIDDING as was the PP that I quoted, indicated from the wink - if you don't get the humor, maybe it's a midwest thing. I see that the poster I am quoting is from Minnesota. I personally don't drive offsite for healthy or unhealthy food - I am happy where I am and will find something to enjoy for a meal)

Ok, back to our regularly scheduled griping about the menu changes...

Nuh uh...it's YOUR turn to drive off site! :lmao:

While it's a nice idea to be able to go find the foods you want, it's also our respite from life in general, which means we go stay at WDW and don't rent a car. WDW IS our vacation......we realize there's a whole world outside of WDW but we've chosen to park our butts in one place at one hotel and meander on Disney busses through 42 square miles of fantasy.

We don't NEED no steenkin' car.
We don't NEED no steenkin' healthy foods.

LOL :rotfl:

I think your DS will still be able to get chicken strips.

Here's a photo from a Dis'er who was there Feb 11-Feb 16 (From Columbia Harbor House)

I don’t think Disney should have taken away from the menus I think they should of just added the healthier options, the counter service restaurants are getting redundant anyway………..but I’m not complaining healthy food is good! ;)

:lmao: Mom DisMN is looking at me again!!! ;)

I hear you, but I think that the biggest point of contention is the wheat buns right now. (Which some claim taste like white - I'll let you know the 'truth' when I go next month - I am not so sure because if these things crumble I'll be crabby)

The chicken strips seem to be safe - thank goodness! No car rentals for anyone!!

Was just at Columbia Harbor House last week. No more chicken strips. They now have chicken nuggets. More and more restaurants are changing from strips to nuggets. Now how is that any more healthy? It's not, it's worse. What is the bottom line? Disney's bottom line! Profit.

And my response to all this discussion -- we live in a free country. The popcorn at theaters has been ruined -- and now my Casey's hot dog. Yes, the bun is wheat -- I could live with that if it tasted good, but it's downright awful! Healthy options should mean I can still have my white bun and you can have your wheat one! That's when it's a true option.

Quick question, so this picture isn't accurate of the strips/nuggets at CHH?

You are a RIOT......thanks for the giggles this afternoon.
I guess I sit here wondering about the whole wheat bun thing, when in fact, DH and I ate at quite a few hot dog places last month and never once ran into a wheat bun. Apparently we were very lucky or something and yes, I WAS worried about it before we went. I like mushy unhealthy white bread. LOL

We had Columbia Harbor House chicken strips a few times as well and they were as good as ever.

Our upcoming trip is only the second time we've gone to Disney with a car. Most times we stay on-site and never leave. With Epcot World Showcase and foods from many different countries why on earth would anyone need to leave? Not to mention the other hundreds of places to eat in every inch of Disney World. If you want healthy, have a salad. Or get some stir fried veggies. I'm lacose intollerant and I even got a Rice Dream shake made at the Sci-Fi Drive in Diner one year. My sister is vegetarian and she found plenty to eat. My dad was (he just passed away two weeks ago today:sad1: ) diabetic and he ate just fine. Disney chefs are awesome!!!:thumbsup2 They can accomodate almost any dietary need. Oh and I forgot to mention - I was able to have Veal Parmesian (sp?) at Mama Melrose's 2 years ago (first time in years). The chef used another type of batter that didn't contain any milk products and whipped it up just for me!! And, we always bring our 6 young children with us ranging in age from 10-2 and they always have full bellies.

That being said - I really can't see anyone having an issue over chicken nuggets, and some silly menu changes. Yes, I've been disappointed too when things have been taken off of menus - even here locally in my home town. But I have always found other alternatives, and even sometimes found something I love even better!!

Change isn't always a bad thing - it's how you choose to deal with it. If you don't like certain menu changes, then voice your opinion to Disney. Nothing may happen, but at least you've spoken your peace.

And as far as picky eaters go - eventually the hunger pangs will kick in hard enough and those picky eaters will find something to eat. We never adjust our restaurant choices because of a picky eater. If everyone else is fine with the choice, then we go with it. If the picky eater doesn't like it, then they don't need to eat there! We would have missed too many wonderful meal experiences giving into the "I don't like anything there" complaint - believe you me! (This is coming from a mother of 8 and grandmother to 4 with 25 people in our immediate family who go out to eat together often.) I have a nephew who doesn't order anything trying to make a stand about his picky eating (he's 15) and then ends up eating my kids' fries and left-overs because he's so hungry!:rotfl:

Quick question, so this picture isn't accurate of the strips/nuggets at CHH?

ChickenStrips.jpg

The picture would be accurate some of the locations. I thought of the "nuggets" as a mini-strip or a tender. They are still the white chicken, but about 1/3 the size of the strips. Instead of 3 strips, you are given 6 "nuggets" which to us equaled 2 strips because they are so much smaller - not the 1/2 size some people are saying.

My Dson, 6'4 130 lbs. didn't have enough to eat with the new "nuggets", but the 3 strips were always enough. Go figure.

I just think calling them nuggets was a wrong idea, but I didn't want anyone to think they are the same strip, they aren't - they are defiintely much, much smaller.

The hardships of offsite dining are mentioned. My family is from Chicago. We love Chicago pizza. To us, there is no other. Giordano's is 10 minutes from Pop Century. We know, living in Chicago, that it takes 30 minutes for them to cook a deep dish pizza. We get to the restaurant, put in our order, leave the restaurant to take the DKs to the 2 souvenir shops in the same plaza, return for our meal and are back onsite in 1.5 hours. All in all, time well spent.

We rent a car for the same reason- can't beat our Chicago pizza

Ok, what the heck is the difference between a chicken "strip" and a chicken "nugget"???? Their both chicken! I guess Im confused. We are not meat eaters, so Im not trying to be rude. I just don't understand the difference.

I don't know about WDW, but typically chicken strips are made from chicken breast and chicken nuggets are made from ... well, maybe you don't want to know. Can anyone say "mechanically-deboned chicken" and "chicken slurry" ?

I'm interested in knowing the difference as well. When i think of a chicken nugget, I immediately think of processed yucky meat, and I think just the opposite with a chicken strip.

are the nuggets supposed to be healthier than the strips? are they still real white meat chicken?

"mechanically-deboned chicken" and "chicken slurry" ?
EWWWW:scared1: ...ok I guess a strip would be better. I bet they changed it b/c nuggets are cheaper. Those genetically engineered chickens are soo much cheaper then the real thing!!! Sick!
This is one of the reasons I don't eat meat. I do give it to my dd tho. But when I do its organic and no gmo's. yuck. I think its best to let her choose when shes old enough to decide.
Most places will buy the cheaper product regardless of nutrition. Its no wonder we have some many health problems now a days. but the changes disney has made are good ones. We are adults and can make choices for our selves, and I think Disney provides a variety of choices to suit almost anyone.
I have worked in kitchens my whole life, so if your at a sit down restaurant and have a special request, ASK! Most of the time they will accommodate you, or call ahead with your request. I know from experience that many, sometimes even crazy requests have been fulfilled.

Disney gave us a fabulous (I think it's fabulous) benefit in Magical Express. They'll cart you to and from the airport for free! On all my weekend trips, no extra transportation costs!

Of course now I have to stay on Disney property and eat Disney food.

We'll all need to decide if the food is worth it for us or if we want to forego the benefit and get a car so we can find what we want to eat without having to search WDW for it (search and ye shall find but you may have to pay more for it or switch to table service or something). There's also plenty of restaurants onsite that aren't run by Disney and I can patronize them if I don't like Disney food anymore.

Other than portion size, I don't see much difference between the chicken strips and the chicken nuggets anyway. :confused3 I did read here somewhere that it's breast meat, just cut smaller.

I eat nuggets but hate strips...... they are too Stringy to me.... I don't know, I have texture issues with chicken. LOL

Nuggets are nugget shaped and strips are in strips lol.
