Why get so worked up?

I'm just so sick of all the negative things being said. Okay, you don't like it. Don't eat it.

I managed to find enough food I liked to gain 5 pounds in a week. And trust me, that wasn't healthy eating and I really didn't care. It's a vacation. I had the chicken strips on 2/22/2008 at CHH. They definately weren't "nuggets". I remember this because the idiot behind me was complaning that he didn't get as much chicken with the new fish and chicken combo meal. He made them give him extra chicken and less fish...

Not going to read all the posts. But as I understand it, people are complaining about all the healthy choices that they are being forced to eat with a gun pointed at their heads? Is that about right? All those veggies burgers and tofu places are doing well in the parks I gather.
My only real comment is this: Had a long talk with one of the head paramedics on site from RC last year. During the conversation he mentioned about all the heart attacks they respond to during the year. Some fatal.

So, what's the problem again about eating healthy?

If people can't find something to eat on property (healthy or not) that is appealing to them I think there is something very wrong with these people.

Why do you have to be insulting about it? If I don't like the food choices, I'll just eat somewhere else! What's wrong with that?
 Insulting? Blunt, maybe, but that's it. Would it be more palatable if the post had said something like, ",,,appealing to them, perhaps they would be best served by resolving those issues prior to vacationing somewhere they KNOW they'll have trouble with the food choices"?

People live longer now than at any other time in Human history.

If the food sucks then whats the point of eating at disney at all? Seriously, if they make it unpalletable enough for most of those that go (you know the MAJORITY that like white bread and junk food) then youll see alot of unhappy visitors (probably with sugar withdrawl).

Sorry, but cheap mass produced health food stinks. ITs EXPENSIVE to eat healthy if you want to eat well, what youll get is half measures (lousy crumbly wheat buns, low fat mac n cheese, sugar free jello, etc etc) places that it COSTS less to provide the, ahem, healthy alternative.

Makes my mouth water already

If you can afford a Disney trip, you can afford a car, that is my philosophy :confused3

very elitist statement. sometimes you can afford to go "all out" sometimes you can afford a trip only if you cut corners.(such as staying at a value resort instead of a moderate. driving instead of flying and eating baloney sandwiches in the room.. in which case I'd rather do that and spend time at the pool than spent the TIME driving offsite) how does this poster know what someone else can afford?
This is one of the problems in America that people don't seem to realize - people don't take responsibility for their eating habits, they need someone to do it for them.
I don't need anyone else to "take responsibility" for any of my decisions. and I will not give up my freedom of choice for government control of anything.(and I really don't care for chicken strips, anyway. that's not the point)
I didn't read every single post on this thread, but I did read quite a few. Now I just have to give my opinion since I worry about the food that goes into mine and my families bellies.
If your kid only eats "such and such" and its not provided then I guess hes going to be one hungry kid. At my house, I make 1 meal and if you don't like it, too bad, eat at the next meal. I don't go to wdw for the food, no way. I usually don't even think about it until Im there. I go for the mouse and the memories with my family. If something like not having chicken strips ruins your vacation then Im so sorry for you.[/QU

when my kids were still kids, I did not let them be one hungry kid if they didn't eat healthyon vacation. it's vacation. I let them skip the veggies and eat ice cream.
I don't think anyone said it "ruined" their vacation. disney changes things all the time. and if you go often, you should let them know if you don't like changes. how else will they know? you are not a complainer. you are an informed consumer, making your wants known.if you want your kids to have grapes for dessert, fine. I wanted my kids to have ice cream for dessert on vacation. (both boys are adults now, and neither are overweight in the slightest)
disney DOES react and respond to feedback. this is how any company knows what their customers like and don't like. on this issue, the answer seems obvious. people want a CHOICE, want to make their own health related decisions on vacation. "big brother" has no place in disney.

I haven't been in 6 years so I can only base my opinion on what I am reading but here goes:

For many of you, I know it is a vacation and you want to splurge - so do I - but not for every meal. You will FEEL so much better and have a lot more energy if you do eat a little healthier.

I have to say it really bothers me (even though it is none of my business ) when I see people spend thousands on a vacation and don't do at least a little bit to make their vacation more enjoyable - like drinking a lot more water instead of soda when it is so hot and don't even get me started on shoes!

ALSO-

For those with picky eaters - why not bring them a little something to eat, just in case there is not something on the menu for them? You can have groceries delivered and most rooms have a fridge.

I do agree that substituting the chicken nuggets for the strips is a BAD move - I wouldn't eat a nugget if you paid me.

We are renting a car and have the last 2 trips but that is only because we are visiting Universal. I don't like to go out into the "real" world once I am there.

Just my 2 cents for whatever it's worth :goodvibes

But Disney's not the/a government; it's a business. If the numerous choices listed by Tricia1972 - ranging from 'not too bad for you' to 'grease' - aren't unhealthy enough for Guests upset with the company's choices/changes, there are more appropriate places for those Guests to vacation, places where they'll be happier.

I don't know- we just came back from our last trip in January and I didn't feel like I was being hit over the head with healthy. Now that I have kids I always prepare ahead of time and try and choose places that work for us. Personally I felt we had to look harder this time to find places that wouldn't make us gluttons. We chose Tusker House, and Tokyo Dining for some lighter dining fare but like I said- everywhere else we ate I felt I was being hit over the head with cheese, cream etc.... I mean breakfasts of puffed french toast, bacon, eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, how can anyone call that healthy? Lunches of fries, burgers, pulled pork or buffets of ham, cheesy potatoes, cesar salads, etc? Healthy I think not. Mickey bars, candy, buttered popocorn, healthy not really. I think there are alternatives for everyone if you do your research.

Thanks Kaytieeldr!

tinkandpan - than you for sharing your recent experience!!

Also - one more time

They chicken 'nuggets' are smaller chicken strips. The name change is probably so people won't complain about the change in size, but the meat is still the same.

From CHH earlier this month...

AMEN! Choice is the point I have been trying to make.

Yes, it is true that life expectancy is higher now than it was when cave men roamed the earth. Can't argue with that. However, American's life expectancy is lower than many other 1st world and some 2nd world countries. In addition, somewhat amusingly, we are no longer the tallest people on the planet. While this is not due EXCLUSIVELY to our, as a nation, horrible diet and nutrition (surely, lack of exercise and violence come into play as well), that is a prime factor.

I agree with the other posters who say Disney is not doing enough and I am voting with my wallet. We are NOT doing the DDP so I can have more control over what my kids eat. We will be loading our fridge with healthful options and snacks. I have selected ADRs in restaurants where I know there will be appropriate options for my family. And you know what, it really was not hard at all and didn't cause me any stress or worry and I don't need a car to meet my goals (getting one anyway, but that is a different point).

So, I am not sure why people are getting so worked up.

Well if the meat is the same then no big deal..........I was thinking of the process meat you know the yucky stuff, but if the meat is still the same then IMO I don't there's anyhring wrong with that. :flower3:

I hardly think that eating a few burgers on white bread during a WDW visit is going to CAUSE a heart attack during that trip; and on the other side of the token, I don't think eating a few burgers on wheat bread during a WDW trip is going to PREVENT a heart attack during that trip, either.

Your right Stacy! people are not having heart attackes in Disney because of what they ate while there on vacation, I'm sure it has alot to do with heat, not to mention the kind of life style they may live. before they get to the happiest place on earth.

To the people who are complaining about the complainers. You are reading a forum where people express their opinions. It seems judgemental to then complain about them. Even going so far as to judge why they would not want to rent a car and go off-site. ;) Personally, that's part of the reason I go to Disney - we don't have to drive - making it simple and fun for us. I do think there is something for everyone at Disney - I've been able to find loads of healthy and unhealthy food to satisfy my needs at the moment :goodvibes . But if people want to complain, it doesn't bother me at all - this is a forum. I can't see myself getting sick of people expressing their opinions on a forum.

I couldn't agree more with the OP. What is the big deal? Just work around it.

Tell that to an autistic child! I just love the attitude of some of you; " I think it is fine therefore so should you." I am all for healthy selections but leave some of the standbys on the menu too, please!

Interesting thread...

My main concern is that someone, somehow decided making some of these changes is a healthy "choice". To narrow it down, let's look at Casey's hot dog. If it were really a choice, someone would ask me "would you like a white or wheat bun Mr. Toad?". But they don't. Instead, my choice is to go across the street and have ice cream (or anything else, I just happen to like ice cream :). That's not really a "choice".

And to bring things full circle, it's a hot dog. Switching from white to wheat and calling it healthy - or even healthier (c'mon people, it's a hot dog!!!) - is silly.

I appreciate everyone's concern for my health. I really do. But allow me to be a big toad and choose the wheat bun/roll if I want.

Out of curiosity - other than the white buns, what has been removed from the menu?

Chicken strips are still the same meat, but they're smaller now. However they're still on the menu.

I understand the great bun debate, but the rest of it has me :confused3
