Why don't TP commercials mention what they're actually used for?

I guess this is a few months old, but I heard the radio spot for the first time today.

No ifs or ands, just cleaner butts.
Charmin Extra Strong - oh yeah!
Ultra strong, gives me the cleaner than average hiney.
It's super shiny
My hiney so Charmin shiny

MY HINEY

Why don't TP commercials mention what they're actually used for?

Probably for the same reasons manufacturers label the product as "bathroom tissue" instead of "toilet paper."

There was that movie where mental patients created ads. I guess for Metamucil it was "It helps you go to the bathroom."

The Dream Team. Great movie.

I was thinking of another one. Crazy People (from 1990).

A bitter ad executive who has reached his breaking point, finds himself in a mental institution where his career actually begins to thrive with the help of the hospital's patients.

I'm glad feminine product ads don't get too descriptive. Preparation H doesn't need a visual either.

Even toilet paper isn't what it's used for. You don't use toilet paper on the toilet. You use the brush. They're poop wipes.

I like "Would your toilet paper let you go commando?" or whatever the line is...

Why does toilet paper need a commercial at all?? Who's not buying toilet paper?

Why? Charmin has to compete against Scott, Angel Soft, and all those other brands, of course.

Do you ever get that not so fresh feeling?

Ewwwwwwwww

I remember Jay Leno mentioning that line on the Tonight Show long ago. It was pretty funny the way he did it.
