Why don't they make A&E FP only?

I understand that having people waiting in line clears the park and allows capacity for other things but people in line are not spending money.
They also aren't having a great time and Disneys business is giving people such a great day that they want to spend....
Why don't they make it FP only so everyone meeting can do so with a short wait?

The people who wait in line see the posted wait time and choose to wait in line. I am not in favor of anything being FP only. It's not fair on the families who didn't know about or couldn't get one. There are many on here who post that they weren't able to get a FP but they are still willing to wait in line because it is important to them. I think choice is important.

What I think a lot of people on this board sometimes forget is that there are still MANY people that don't even know what FP+ is or how to use it and are going to WDW for the first time. I remember even with the old system hearing people talk about that FP was only for people stay on property or that they paid extra to use the system.

I don't think it would be fair to them to say they couldn't meet these characters even if they were willing to wait 4/5 hours in standby.

I agree. People are well aware if what the wait time is when they get in line. Same thing for the other popular rides like the roller coasters and toy story rides. In a case like this, if it was FP+ only, then all the spots would be taken up by people who have purchased their tickets way in advance making it unfair for people who decide to go that day.

I totally agree. I also think every line NEEDS standby. Sometimes FP people return in clumps, so they need SB to feed in to maximize the numbers that get through each day. Otherwise they could end up with short periods of time they are just waiting for someone. Add more FP and you could get in situations where the line clumps up and the wait for FP is longer than people will be happy with.

My DH was in long line for a FP+ kiosk when a man in front of him turned around and asked him if he knew what and how it all worked!

If they did this, the FP+'s would be gone in a second. This would really isolate the "day trippers", locals, and AP holders who don't plan so far in advance.

If they made it FP only then there would be a long wait, because everybody would be in the FP lines. Unless they gave out a VERY small number of FPs, and then imagine the complaints from the vast numbers of park guests who won't get to meet Anna and Elsa at all. They can't speed up the rate at which the girls can greet guests, so it would still be a long wait for those who are not in line at the beginning.

This is very true! I am so glad I don't fall in this category...I cannot imagine attempting to tour WDW when everyone else had FPs and I was oblivious to the system.

A month or two ago, there was a announcement that certain theme park things were going to be FP+ only. The complaints started immediately. And the plan was cancelled.

To those who use smartphones and tablets/laptops as part of their daily life, it's probably hard to understand that there is a great population out there who isn't plugged in all day. I use a computer at home -- an actual desktop -- but I don't have a smart phone. I can't justify the extra monthly expense, when there are established alternative sources for what info a mobile device provides.

I also understand why you had the idea, the waits are crazy! But the Standby serves a VERY important purpose. Many many many people vacation to WDW with NO idea of all this stuff that we so easily understand on the DIS.

I actually think a lot of people that stay onsite don't even plan their FPs. They get the bands and think: "Cool, we'll plan this later or when we get to the park!"

They just cant comprehend how busy and how fast this stuff books!

It isn't fair to take standby away and wouldn't work for so many reasons

I don't mean all prebooked, but if you look at the way DAS works, you could walk up get a return time and come back then without a 5 hour wait, keeping people happier.
Yes people know how long the line is when they get in it, that doesn't mean they are happy about it though.
A 3+ hour wait just seems out of control.

If they are that unhappy about it, they just won't get in line. I think they understand that if they get in that 3 plus hour line, they are going to suck it up because their kid (or themselves, could be) wants to see Anna and Elsa more than anything else.

This would make it a resort-only attraction, since the FPs would be gone within the first 5 minutes of day 60. Might as well move it to a resort and be done with it in that case. If not, offsite tickets should be cheaper due to them, at that point, not being valid for the entire park, just most of it.

In February people were waiting in line 8 HOURS to see A&E. They were taking turns standing in line and going around the world and while the parents were clearly sucking it up..... the kids were thrilled. SO any improvement on that is wonderful.

And they don't need people to be shopping or dining or riding to make money. If people stand in that line all day waiting, Disney is getting their money's ticket worth.

Maybe, just maybe, with all this popularity and a new Frozen movie coming out in 2016? they'll keep some of the summer HS activities for the holiday season.

Yes, we all know the situation at A&E right now. This does not mean Disney has committed to it. As already noted, a number of M&Gs were heading this direction a couple of months ago. WDW changed its mind about two days later--I like to think due to fan reaction.
