Why don't serial killers ever kill bad guys?

Let me start by saying that I was just channel surfing while cooking dinner and "clicked" on a show about serial killers. I was wondering what could possibly be the motivation for these guys? I mean, if my mind was telling me that I had to kill, I'd definately only go after really bad people. Then I start wondering, why don't serial killers ever start killing child molesters? Or spousal abusers? Or repeat DUI offenders? It just seems like an easy solution to a larger problem. I know I'm being trite about the whole thing but honestly, if the urge to kill is so overwhelming, why not put it to some good use? And yes, I'm kidding around, but I'm serious too. There's enough "bad guys" out there to take care of, why pick on innocents?

They should be like Sly Cooper and steal from master theives! because "there is no fun, no honor, no challenge in stealing from ordinary people. If you rip off a master criminal, you know you're a master theif" I've only played that game like a million times :rotfl:

Actually there is one still on the loose in Houma and most of the men he/she has killed have been criminals, mostly rapists. THey call him the "Bayou Killer" or something like that.

They have to prey on the young, weak and unsuspecting. Otherwise they'd get their a** kicked!

I have always assumed that it is much easier to take advantage of innocence. People who prey on others assume that everyone is trying to get one over on them so they would be more wary and harder to get to. JMO

People who have already been abused in some way are more careful as well.

Slightly Goofy (who is not that innocent but would never hurt anyone else)

If a serial killer were to kill the "Bad Guys" they'd be considered vigilantes and the term serial killer wouldn't be appropriate

Most serial killers however kill woman and children and we all know the "Bad Guys" are always the men, right? :rotfl2:

Nance,
Why yes, indeed, the "bad guys" are mostly men. At least where child predators are concerned. Men make up over 95% (it's actually closer to 99%, but I don't have the exact figure in front of me) of child molesters.
And BTW, kudos to the "Bayou" guy/gal.

Who's the "Bayou" guy/gal?

Suzanne,
See post #4 above. It's some guy/gal that is killing rapists I guess. Now there's a sport that would be more fun to watch than football. OMG-what an idea! Televised hunting games-kinda like America's Most Wanted-only they kill them at the end of the show! I have got to get my mind back on track today, I'm just wayyyy to easily amused.

I read a book (fiction) a few years back that you might like if this topic is really of interest. It's about a woman who snaps and has had enough. So she starts hunting down murderers, serial rapists, etc... and kills them. It was called "Watch Me" and was written by Hoyt (I think that's the author's last name).

Didn't Jack The Ripper (one of the original serial killers) go around killing prostitutes???

They caught a guy in Kansas City not too long ago who has killed several prostitutes over the last couple of decades. Those killings didn't get the kind of press as our other serial killers.

Actually is was a writer from the beginning of this century who said "Only the good die young". His name was Oliver Herford. He also said that women's minds were cleaner than men's because they change them more often which might be the reason why more men do dastardly deeds than women (however I am of the opinion that when women go bad they are capable of far worse than many men)

If you are a woman you are prey, if you are a woman of the streets you are not only more accessible but less apt to be missed. If you happen to have a darker complexion, are not particularly good looking, do not have small children to be seen on the local news crying for you, or otherwise than a pretty, white ,well off woman you are more at risk.

People do not seem to pay much attention to the loss of anyone unless they are like themselves and doing something 'normal' as they can tell themselves that they are 'safe' cause they do not fit the criteria of the most recent victim.

It is sad that because of a very few sick individuals that we have to be wary of all. I saw an older man walking with a gas can the other day and my heart wanted to stop and offer him a ride but my brain would not allow me to do it.

There is far more good in the world than bad, there is far more good in the world than bad. If I keep repeating this maybe I will feel better.

Slightly Goofy

The Green River Killer also killed mostly prostitutes. I don't think it made him any less frightening to all of us.

Usually serial killers have a "type" that they like to kill. Prostitutes and the homeless are at high risk because it's easier to get away with (easy accessibility, and not necessarily reported missing right away) and killers are able to justify it in their own minds somehow. Sort of like they're on a mission from God to get rid of the sinners or something like that.

Are some of you saying that being a prostitute is being a "bad guy"? I was talking serious bad guys; child molestors, rapists, etc.
