when they are watching a movie in a public movie theater??!!
Yesterday, DH and I went to an afternoon matinee to see John Travolta's new movie, "Basic." We were the only couple in the theater at first, then a few minutes later another couple came in. Only two seats were occupied, by myself and DH, so this other couple had their choice of ALL the other seats in the ENTIRE THEATER, yet they chose to sit in our row (back row, I always try to sit in the back row if we get there early so we won't have anyone directly behind us to bother us) only FOUR seats away from us!! They proceeded to chat away, which was fine since the movie hadn't started. BUT! They CONTINUED to chat away after it HAD started!! I finally looked over at them and said "Shhhhhhhh" very loudly!! The woman looked over and said "sorry." And they did shut up, for awhile....but then went right back to talking off and on throughout the rest of the movie. It was SO ANNOYING!! That's the one thing that can ruin a movie, people TALKING when they should BE QUIET!!! GRRRRRR!! After the movie was over I felt like walking over to them and telling them, "Next time you want to see a movie, wait until it comes out on video so you can watch it at home and talk all you like and you won't be bothering anyone!!"

Does people talking during a movie bother you, or am I the only one that gets annoyed by it??

You're not the only one! It annoys me too!

Rude people are the main reason we have stopped going to the theater. If we want to see it, we'll catch it on video.

Yes, it's very annoying - it happens in the Disney parks as well.

Add another person to being annoyed by this. :(

It annoys me too! I think these people think they are at home, and can just chat away like oblivious idiots!

It annoys me too but that wasn't why I'm responding. Am I the only one that laughed out loud because of the thread title and Chatty's name?

Yes it annoys me and my DH is on the tops of the list. He doesn't chit-chat, he comments on the movie...and if something is funny watch out he is rolling in the floor. Hes much worse at home....its funny because hes usually a quiet person but not when hes interested in a movie.....even the ones hes seen a zillion times.

Extremely annoying. If the Sssshhhh! doesn't work, I go get the manager (who, sometimes, is barely of working age  ). A couple of times I complained so hard that I got tix to a different showing... only to go and find people chatting away AGAIN!!! You can't win for losing!! :p

It is very annoying when people do that which is why I rarely go to the movies anymore.

I just about refuse to go to the movies for that reason alone. If I'm going to pay $10+ per person for the movies... somoene's gettin' hit if they can't keep their big trap shut. So rather than go around assaulting perfect strangers, who just have bad manners, I set up my own home theater and wait for stuff to come out on DVD...I'm much happier now that I can put my "theater-rage" behind me. :teeth:

I find that so irritating. The option is to change your own seat even though you were there first. At my parent's, we were always quiet during TV shows and basically commented, etc. during commercials. When DH talked to me during TV shows, it ticked me off big time. And now DS does it!

I agree. Very very annonying. I also am not a fan of people bringing little bitty babies to movies who then cry, and they don't take them out. I would rather skip a movie than have brought DD when she was little.

Also...we went to a packed movie once...just me and DH and sat on the aisle, 2nd to last row. Behind us was a couple with a little boy, who took up 6 seats in that row, and put their coats on the seat next to us (right in front of them). People came up and asked them if the seats were taken and they said yes! I still regret not telling those people that no one was sitting there. On top of that, these rude people behind me....right before the movie the dad came back with literally a shopping bag full of food to eat for the movie....they crunched the popcorn loud, they had nachos and hot dogs and everything (which smelled too). They were the most arrogant people I have encountered at a movie!

That's one of the reasons, I RARELY go see movies anymore. If they're not chatting with a companion, they're on the PHONE! GRRRRRR!

I walked out Panic Room because the guy next to me had a raging cold. He kept snorting "everything" down and it was the most disgusting sickening noise I've ever heard! He sat right next to me and did it the whole time. I can handle nose-blowing or something, but the snorting was just gross. I ended up leaving because, while I was irritated and I thought it was sort of rude not to just sneak away and blow your nose, it wasn't his fault he was sick. I saw it on DVD when it came out. It was OK, but not good enough to suffer through the snorting. I'm glad I left.

We also hate people who talk during films at the cinema(and people who talk during TV programmes at home,Mother-in-Law that means you!!)
Last time we went to see Red Dragon, two people sat next to us in pre booked seats. they could have moved along when they saw no one else had booked our row, but noooooo. the woman was explaining the story to her man as the film progressed and his mobile phone went off three times!! we have now bought a DVD player and will buy the DVD when it comes out of any film we want. If it turns out to be a duff film in our opinion then I can always sell it on eBay later.

disykat: yeah, I may be chatty but I do know when to shut up...LOL... :D

Someone said an option would have been to move, even though we were there first, yes, I suppose we could have but dang it, it's the principle of the thing :) But, maybe if we would have moved about half-way into the movie they would have gotten the hint that they were annoying us. But I suppose it wouldn't have really mattered to them though.

Oh my, cell phones in the theater, now THAT is something I've not experienced...yet...DH always leaves his in the car, and even though mine is in my purse I make sure I turn it off before we go into the theater. Talking to the person sitting next to you is one thing, but talking to someone on the PHONE is totally unacceptable....yikes!!

I remember going to the movies as a child at the old downtown movie house, and they had an adult walk up and down the aisles several times during the movie, making sure people stayed quiet and kids didn't act up. Maybe they should go back to that. :D
